You mean so we can't see anything that hasn't been "boosted?" Yeah, that's brilliant... very helpful.

LMAO. So basically the filter is useless and now the ratings are useless.

Oh man, I HATE this new system. I was able to, at a glance, decide which deals were really "deals" by the red and green. Grrrrrr.

alert mods

(RED) for you FatWallet. Don't you get that nobody likes this for all the above reasons. (RED) (RED) (RED)...

alert mods

Wow, it's a great idea. Now all the newbies can post crap without worrying getting negative.

Check the Finance forum. People ask stupid questions all the time.

Mom, FWer left me negative. They ruined my life.

Too bad, FW decided to please the worthless crying babies instead of more contributing members.

[sarcasm]I am sure FW will become so much better.[/sarcasm]

alert mods

We need to revert back to the old system and incorporate RED's. Red is a good indicator for a bad deal or a bad post, and if there's no red, then we will have to assess whether the deal is worth viewing or not. I don't want to have to guess if it's bad or just hasn't been seen yet...

We should have the ability to flag a user that RED's too often, so if that user gets enough votes then he/she will lose his or her rating ability.

But in this new system, you just need to have 10 friends sign up from school, and come in to vote green, then it will always look like positive (and hot deal). But in fact the price may be just ok.

Making this rating system useless to find out if the deal is good deal or ok deal. Let's say it again, not all member know what price is HOT DEAL and need other FW members that do know the hot deal price to balance out the vote.

I agree 100% - this new, no negative idea hurls major chunkage.

If a deal is hot, but poorly worded it should still get green - and suggestions for the OP to clean it up. If the deal is bad or the 10th repost of the same deal - it deserves red so that others will not bother reading it. If some folks think it hot and some not, then it gets what it deserves - a medium rating.

I have topic alerts set up for most things, but I often browse the hot deals forum and will usually ignore threads with major red - since I know they are either bad deals, reposts, or from "Polishdreamer" (just kidding about the last part).

The ones who are complaining the loudest are the same ones who brought about this change from their unrelenting abuse of the system.

Hey guys...My grandma died and left me $500. What should I do with it? Oh also I found a quarter on the ground yesterday, any suggestions?

Oh is this the wrong thread? I'll take these important questions to FW Finance.

alert mods

Mods think about this.

Sometimes a thread will have over 300 views before a mod even looks at it.

Now when someone posts FREE ipod (AR) or something stupid like that we all have to look at the deal to notice it's spam or a scam.

Whereas previously the red votes let us know it was probably a crap newbie post, so instead of 300 views, the spammer gets 3k.

And if you plan on telling me to change my rating filter, then I won't ever see the real deals, nor will anyone else who changes their filter.

However if that happens then I won't see any deal until the people who have "all messages" checked mark it up to the filter's criteria. Then basically I only get in on deals hrs after they are found or when they're over.

Add my vote to those who want the negative ratings back!!

the link to this thread is showing green based upon FW folks "boosting" the
rating --- how do guys explain that

There's quite a few voting abusers that should be/should have been banned. I've alerted the mods several times about the threadcrappers that he mentioned, and nothing ever came of it. Hopefully taking away their 'negging' power will give them incentive to kindly F off

Please let us vote red on threads. Red on posts is also good in certain forums, but not necessary in all.

alert mods

If people can't neg it's just going to be another long long thread

alert mods

I agree that people used the rating system for various reasons, wrong sometimes. Like giving a neg. because it was a store you didn't like (for me, TD would apply). Also, I hated it when others would give a post of mine a red, especially if there was no obvious reason, and my post gave useful info. That said, I liked the rating system, because it was an easy way for me to avoid deals an OP thought was great. When many people voted neg., I could easily tell by the length of the red line that there must be some reason so many people voted such.

If you take away the rating system as it was, what should FW members who read about a particular deal do when they notice a reason why the deal is not good after all? You explained that if it is spam, a repost, or the wrong forum, to send a moderator alert. Good. You explained that if it has a poor title or missing info, to reply with helpful suggestions. Good also. However, you stated that if you "don't like the deal", to walk on by. I agree that not posting anything when you don't like the deal for personal reasons is usually appropriate. But (unless there is another way I'm overlooking), I think the rating system and/or replying with specific info why you don't like the deal is a much better response. For example, What if OP posts a deal about the great price of a PC motherboard for only $30. However, I dont like the deal because:
1. I have knowledge that the motherboard (MB) is only selling for so cheap because the seller / store charges an extremely high shipping cost to counter the low product price?
2. I know the MB is inexpensive because it is obsolete and won't run Win XP?
3. I don't like the MB because I bought the same model and it is poorly built?
4. The store has tons of legitimate Better Business Bureau complaints against it.
5. The store is known to take forever in paying rebates?
6. The store's prices are almost always overpriced?
7. The store is filing for bankruptsy, or has done so in the past?
8. The store abuses your purchase information for telemarketing reaons?
9. The store usually cancels orders that contain coupons or loss leaders?
10. The store's inventory info is usually inaccurate?
11. The store's competitors will match their prices 110%, resulting in a lower total cost?
12. The store's website is difficult to navigate or their order confirmation process is incompetent?
13. The price only appears good, because the store raises prices before each "sale" so that the sale price looks better?

OK, so I've listed several reasons above why I may rate a FW post negatively, without bothering to make my own reply post with my reasons. In my opinion, by only allowing a pos. boost rating, if I can't vote it red, and if I only DON'T give it a pos. boost rating, many, many FWer's won't have the opportunity to know that I WOULD vote it negatively, (and perhaps hundreds of other members would too), by the old ratings system. What do you think? After considering it, maybe you are on to something. MAYBE, if I'm required to make a reply post in order for other members to know exactly why I don't like the deal, your new rating system will work. Not sure yet, but for now I vote this change RED!!!

-Often times, a new post some OP thinks is hot, also INITIALLY appears hot to me too. That is, until I read the other FW member posts, and learn for myself why it may or may not be hot for me personally. For example, if I say an external hard drive on sale for just $10 after rebate, even though I don't need another hard drive, at that price I'm willing to buy one. However, due to the constructive criticisms of other FW posts, I discover that it's not a good deal afterall, because the hard drive is firewire based (and I, like many people, don't have that connection type). Often, an OP is in a rush to post a hot deal, while it's still hot, and they omit or overlook crucial info that won't fit onto their post heading, due to the limited # of characters. And, after posting a hot deal, some OP's must then get back to their own life, and not monitor their post for hours to see why it really isn't hot. Please bring me back my RED voting power, at least for original posts. (Maybe take away just the red rating for individual posts that aren't OP's.)
