So basically, if you want to see the community vote, never vote.

Deals often change after the initial post. Maybe I am not initially interested in a thread, but the deal gets sweeter or I missed something initially that the community picks up on. I am never going to see that everyone else considers it a 5-star thread because I already rated it early on? That is a total disincentive for me to ever rate a thread, and that's not the spirit of FW.

Totally agree, what if after couple replys, someone find additional rebate or coupon to make the deal much better??? Intially you vote 1 star based on the original post price but with the rebate, you would have vote 5 star. If we can see the community rating, we can quickly see that the thread suddenly change to have 5 star and you would know the deal must be getting better.

But if you stuck with your own rating, then you will miss out the deal.

This is NOT movie rating since the DEAL is dynamic and ever changing.

I am with you. If this is the way it goes, I guess I(and most others) am not going to rate any thread because if I rate, I wont see the rating from community, which is the whole purpose for this forum.

FW, if you are listening, my rating is only to contribute to the community. Once I rated, it doesn't mean much (if anything) to myself. As I can always "favorite" a thread if I am interested or want to follow. Yes, if you like, you can make an additional query or function to show all the threads that I rated green. But that can only be an add-on function instead of the only view you have.

I know you have done a good job, and I believe you will also.

1 star is the minimum.... you can think of 1 star as "maximum red"

1 star = hate it
2 star - don't like it
3 star = ok
4 star = like it
5 star = love it
That is a HORRIBLE idea. Maybe I am not interested in a thread, but the deal gets sweeter or I missed something initially that the community picks up on. I am never going to see that everyone else considers it a 5-star thread because I already rated it early on? That is a total disincentive for me to ever rate a thread. Once I cast my vote, I lose the ability to learn from the community! Come on, each change is just getting worse than the next.

I hate it. I also hate that you can't rate individual messages within a thread.

About rating the individual posts, you did not state if it'd be implemented or not. It was an EXTREMELY useful feature of the old rating system.

About the "When you rate a topic, you will continue to see your rating overriding the site wide rating... making it more personal for you," sometimes a deal can become warm to SUPERLY DUPERLY HOT due to, say, someone posting a coupon that was not previously mentioned in the OP. So if I were to vote the previously warm deal a 2, I wouldn't be able to discover that the deal has become hot w/o the OP changing the title and me reading the title.

Then I would say why not have 2 rows of star. ONE for your vote and one for community vote. Why make it so hard for the FW members to use.

bump for petition

1. This has the same effect as the +/-, can you explain why you want to change it? Is it simply that it looks less bad if something has some green as opposed to red? Why does that matter?

2. Agree with everyone else, we want to see the community vote, not our personal one. The obvious driver for that is that deals can be updated. What might be 1-star can become 5-star if someone figures out later you can use a coupon or some other rebate.

that purely doesn't work!

Is there anyplace we can see the sitewide rating once we rate a thread? We have to be able to know the aggregate rating, which will change as a deal gets hotter or colder. If the rating changes, we may revisit a thread. If we can't see the rating change, that kind of defeats the purpose. Knowing my personal rating is much less important than knowing the collective rating. It's the aggregation of votes that gives us some idea of the changing hotness of a thread. If we rate a thread poorly, but then new information changes that, we won't know to go back and look, because we won't see the sitewide rating change.

If we can't rate messages inside a thread it would leave the door wide open to spammers. The incentive for community user interaction is getting lower and lower with this knid of system. I don't want the rating system to be over-personal, I wanna know how my fellow fatwallters think too.

boost was hilarious

Wow, you guys already switched the ratings again.. It's nice to know you're trying to work with what people seem to want. This does seem better than the earlier ratings used today, but I agree with others that I'd like to see the overall ratings even if I voted. Maybe show stars for overall rating and somehow show your own rating with a different color star or just a number?

I'm now convinced that the people that make these changes to fatwallet don't actually USE the fatwallet forums.

I don't think this is going to work. I had no problems with the old system, and I don't see why you can't use that as a stopgap solution.

jely said:Toddler said:...So I'm not seeing the community rating, just my personal rating? That would be pointless.

But if YOU have found that YOU feel the need to rate a deal, whether that be 1-star or 5-stars, why do you care that the community thinks differently or not? a deal to one person is not a deal to another, and voting means you've decided the value of that deal to you.
I must say I'm really discouraged about rating anything. I personally depend on community ratings, especially on things I don't know about but need like cookware. If I rate a deal I'll never be able to see what the community rate is, correct? If I give something a good rating then a defect or whatever is brought up by people who know what their talking about I'll never be able to see the deal for what it truly is, a bad deal. Limiting our ability to view community ratings is not good. Dumbing down options is almost as annoying as companies that don't reveal shipping charges until you complete the checkout process. I predict within a week Fatwallet will bow to the pressure and bring the old ratings back. Otherwise I can gaurentee a huge downturn in traffic.

I was the one who made the joke about how the true diehards are never really going to leave CrackWallet. I didn't know it would be this bad.
