The irony is how much love the FW community has collectively expressed for the old system.
There was such value in seeing individual posts like "both rebates won't fly" but also see it covered in red. That told me to keep reading because the community disagreed with that post.
Without that, I will have to scour entire threads...just like SD and every other side that has always been my second choice to FW. |

I like the stars but as every poster before me has stated, not seeing the communities rating after I rate is silly.
Not being able to rate individual posts is also a blow but I think less disastrous than the above.

The only difference is that now you can count the stars instead of measuring the length of the bar. Kind of an improvement.
Not interested is a good idea, but still, I want +/- with NI.
A 5 years old kid can figure out which deal is good and which deal is bad with the old system.

I really dont see how this star thing is any better at all than the flag. It takes more space unnecessarily and you cannot tell who voted for it. The green or red flag I thought was ingenuous system that no other site had. It was simple, unobtrusive flag to the far left of the topic that does not detract from the actual content yet provides so much information. Now you display stars like every topic deserves a vote, they dont! The old flag system does not suffer the issue when the post does not deserve a flag, while now when the vote is empty it looks like the entire forum is littered with garbage. How would you like to go to a movie theater just to find the movies are listed with zero star everywhere? See if you want to come back to that theater again. Perhaps, unbeknownst to me, the red/green flag system has its shortcomings, but for the most part its benefit and functionality far outweighs whatever deficiency you guys are trying to fix. I'm even thinking of copying the the flag idea for my own internal company website, but it seems that you guys are adamant that this is a better system somehow despite the 95%+ people protesting against it. The red/green vote system has its own built-in self-correcting mechanism that relies on the democratic spirit of fatwalet users. Where such system has failed us I have no idea and frankly I dont care, but it works!
I am really seriously questioning your motive about listening to our feedback when you don't even tally the vote as to which one we prefer. I think that's the least you can do before making this change that will make this site so fundamentally different from what I used to know and love. There is so much truth to the phrase: "If it ain't broke don't fix it" |

Then I would say why not have 2 rows of star. ONE for your vote and one for community vote. Why make it so hard for the FW members to use.The problem with logging out is you only get to see 20 deals at a time and no filtering or replying to post without logging in. |

Mods, was there ever a user poll/opinion seek for new rating system prior to going live! If not, it should have been done! It could have save lots of time, effort and agony!
Based on the new rating system, I think the feature is introduced by a bunch of IT developers instead of a business user who understands the internet community! I do not see any reason why old system shouldn't have worked!
A simple poll was all that needed to figure out the FW community reaction!

EXACTLY, the old rating system is what made fatwallet stand apart, and you took it away, now it's going to be an endless mass of topics to scour through. |

Obvious problems people already discovered
1. This is NOT movie rating since the DEAL is dynamic and ever changing (like additional coupon/rebate make the deal much hotter). We cannot stuck looking at our own rating. We need to see the community rating even after we vote in case the deal get hotter.
2. How I can see who voted for what? I want to make my own decision of who I trust more. If I see someone created the account today and voted, I personally won't trust their vote as much as those senior member. I can tell with the old rating system but not this.
3. If OK deal means 3 starts, then the rating should start at 3 stars.
4. I think so far most people think the old system still much better than this one. Only thing new is the "Not interested" thing but most people not going to use it unless the post is clear spam. But if it is clear spam, the old system will be all RED and can easily tell anyway. |

I like the not interested option. Why don't you go back to the old way of red and green but add the not interested option?? Please don't let pride be the reason you guys don't go back to the old way. Currently the 5 star system is dumb because if i set it to 3 stars, I won't see any new posts that are at no stars, also most people that don't read the forum rules will think 1 or 2 star is ok deal so they will rate it accordingly and that will throw everything off. Please just change it back, at least let us vote on it, I bet I know what the result would be. |

Stars suck, and this is why. I don't have time to scour the web for the best price for a HDTV, a silk tie, a SATA harddrive, a 9MP camera, a trampoline, etc... That is why I trusted the FW community to rate a deal accordingly with Red/Green. When there is red, you INSTANTLY know it is spam, referrals, or a horrible deal. When you saw green, you know it was maybe worth checking out. Stars stars and stars make NO sense. Ok so now instead of red, ebayers will mark a deal with one star. What's the difference? None! You tried to fix something that a majority of people didn't want fixed. Now bring it back to the old system and figure out a way to IMPROVE it, not replace it with a worse facsimile.
Also, often times a "Deal" that is weak becomes greater with coupons, price adjustments, etc... If I mark a deal "not interested" and then it improves with a price drop or something else, then I will never know about it. I for one will never use the "not interested" unless I see spam, but that was what the RED was doing for me anyways. You just complicated things unecessarily.
My probably worthless $.02 that will fall on deaf ears/eyes. |

Nobody who actually uses FW would ever make the changes they've made yesterday and now today. |

So why exactly do I want the threads to show my rating anyway? It is just in case I forget what I like?

How much did you pay the developer for the over time? Probably it is best if you switch back to the old +/- system and give us (FW members) another $5 BONUS. |

This is the problem. How do I know, at a glance, by looking at the ratings, if something is a crap deal or just not voted on enough yet? At least before I could go by the size of the red flag and I would just keep scrolling to the next thread. |

we're not looking for perfection tonight - we're looking at "better" thanks for your $.02... the popularity issue is a bigger question.

Wow, things are just getting worse and worse. PLEASE GO BACK TO THE BAR LAYOUT!!
"When you rate a topic, you will continue to see your rating overriding the site wide rating... making it more personal for you." - As many people noted already, this is a really badly flawed design for all the reasons mentioned. First Facebook, now FW, what is the world coming to!? |
