I agree that I would rather see the community vote rather then my vote. I'll let the forums do the sifting for me. I don't think I'll ever click the "not intersted" button, in a dynamic forum it's only sevice is to limit content that I don't want limited.

The voting buttons help you do the filtering for others, but only YOU know what YOU need.

One thing for sure, those of us that stay late and trying out this rating system are definitely dedicated FW users. And that means most of us have been using FW for quite some times and should know good features from bad features.

And based on all the replies, seems like most of us don't think this system we are trying now is better (actually worse) than what we had before.

You'll be surprised to know that I don't know what I need until I see a deal on FW, then suddenly I need everything. Just check out my pantry.

Why can't we just have it the old way? I really would like to see other fatwalleters' opinions on some deals too ...

Tim
I think the general population has spoken.

There has to be a different reason other than "abuse" of why FW dropped the original ranking system; any ranking system can be abused.

Have to agree, go back the the original red/green bar for now.

alert mods

i say bring back red/green, that truly did distinguish FW as the best deal site.

BUT< i do like the idea of being able to delete a post from your view permanently, for example i could delete all Levono deals =]

so just consider expanding on the old functinality. =]

anything that requires explanation is too complicated. there was nothing complicated about:
a little red
a lot of red
a little green
a lot of green

Perhaps FW trying to cater to the color blinds?

It's not like rating your NetFlix rental history. Many deals get hotter or colder over time. A thread that's cold one minute can get suddenly hot when a new coupon or chance for PM enters the mix. This new system will discourage all but the spammers and newbies from voting early on threads.

All of this is just needlessly messing with what used to be a good thing.

On another thread (SD) they use a thumbs up sign or more to show a good deal/bad deal, this star system looks extremely similar to theirs. I think we were much better off with the red/green. I must admit i was a little happy when they took the red out considering half my posts got red all the time..

But if it's for something you KNOW you won't possibly want to buy (DVD players and cars didn't do it before...how about tampons??), then this gives you a quick way to ignore the thread.

Oooh...and now that they're letting us ignore threads, maybe they'll give us an option to ignore specific users too

Would coloring the stars differently be acceptable?

One/two stars gets red
Three stars gets some neutral color (I would say "no color" but apparently that means "not rated" now so another "neutral color")
Four/five stars get green.

Just an idea...

i loved the old rating system

and am i the only one bothered by the spelling of "quick" in the post title?

Yep, the star ratings now are no different from SD's thumbs-up ratings. I find both methods of rating causes the page to have a very "cluttered" look. The bars were much cleaner and easier on the eyes.

And then we would have a convoluted version of what we all want...which is exactly what we had before.

I echo both of loves pam's sentiments.

Agreed.

But I don't know, deals come and go. Deals die and/or get better with age. A $12 DVD player...not today but who knows what tomorrow will bring. For that reason I have no interest in "not interested". I come here more often to look for deals rather then locate a deal on X product.
