Top and Bottom buttons in Modern... talk amongst yourselves...

To review: Top/Bottom buttons had been requested for Modern view, but didn't make the cut in recent changes. After weeks of waiting patiently, qcumber98 has stepped up to the microphone to ask again.

Want them?
Why?
Where?

My reason for asking is that if I want to see the OP, I have to scroll down to the bottom of the page. Then if I want to see the most recent post, I have to scroll all the way up to the top. I have my view set to 100 posts per page in reverse chronological order so scrolling up and down gets old pretty fast. I would rather get to the top or bottom by clicking on a single button. Simply put the two buttons between "Quote" and "Edit"; just like old times.

Actually, we're one step ahead of you! Instead of top and bottom buttons, we added shortcut keys to your keyboard! Home is essentially the same as 'top,' and 'end' is the same as 'bottom!' What could be better than shortcut keys?

think outside the box......buttons on the screen are the way to go.

Yes, we've asked for them a bunch of times. Why do we have to keep asking again for each individual request? Just look in your old beta threads and you'll see a theme pop up.

Why? Because I miss where teh cheese used to be. And it made sense the first time around.

Where? The exact same place it used to be (see above).

Buttons labeled "top" & "bottom" are visible; keyboard shortcuts are not. and if you think I'm going to search out and print a list of all your shortcuts and hidden ways to do things and paste it to my monitor, you have another think coming.

well, there is a thing over there -->

a scroll bar - you can keep your hand on the mouse and drag it up and down all ya want! and it doesn't add any clutter to each and every post in a thread for the times your mouse isn't in the mood to drag that scrollbar.

Personally I just use the home and end keys, but there's plenty of room next to the reply/quote buttons to add buttons for top and bottom. I would put them to the left of reply/quote, with a space between top/bottom and reply/quote.

On an unrelated note, why is reply.php still classic, even when modern is selected?

And FYI the home/end/pgup/pgdn keys are standard shortcuts for just about every web browser, they are not specific to FW.

That's my point. At 100 posts per page, dragging the scrollbar is contributing to carpal tunnel.

I miss those buttons!

In "today" page, there are no links to last post, so you have to click on last page link and then go all the way down to see the newest posts..
I have set preferences to 50 posts a page and that's (potentially) a lot of scrolling.

WHY would you expect us to use that (and not tell us about it to boot) instead of giving us what we want? Isn't this supposed to be the "user frieindly" FW who was going to take our requests and put them to use? WHY, after many many people have requested this, would you waste everyone's time doing something different?

How about we change reverse chronological order, so that the OP is always at the top, then followed by the newest post, or just add that as a new order option.

An interesting but wild suggestion. Be thankful that Modern view users are somewhat open-minded.

It was the thought if you are reading the newest post in the thread, not the middle of the thread. Your point is made.

I use the newest post first option, and it would be convenient if the OP text was available at the top (perhaps collapsed by default). This would also be useful if you navigate to other pages of the thread.
