I posted something in virgils free stuff FAQ thread and wanted some feedback on it here.

It seems a lot of the problems that arise between members start with percieved flaws in how other members post deals and how community members reply. I have a suggestion for assisting new members with posting deals and wonder if it would help the new members who truly want to contribute to the community. I posted it here and this is the content:

When posting as a "new member" after hitting the "post new topic" button, the FAQ/guidelines page for that specific forum loads. The new member would have to scroll to the bottom of the page and click an acknowledgment button such as "I have read the FQA/guidelines/whatever for the ----- forum" that would then take them to the "post a new topic" form.

Granted, many won't bother to read it- but many will, especialy those who want to conribute to the community. It may help clarify what the expectations of FW are for that particular forum, thereby reducing the number of "repost" "wrong thread" and other assorted replies while also assisting the new member in posting in a manner more productive to FW.

From there, it's the responsibility of the community to offer constructive suggestions that point back to the faq/guidelines when there is a misplaced/redundant/problem post by a new member. I'm not talking about hand holding- just offering positive and correct suggestions that don't belittle or alienate the new member.

Is something like this possible?

Really like your idea, DB. Given the different expectations of each forum, a quick rundown of the major stuff prior to posting could be a great tool to cut down on problem threads and to help new posters feel they are fitting in better with the community standards.

Why not reuse the bold text from 'post new topic' in HD?

In the Free Stuff thread we've been talking about ways to point new members to the FAQ more and more. Maybe we could include a link to the FAQ at the beginning of every New Member warning post for Hot Deals/Free Stuff or any other forum we add the bold warnings to.
