Shouldn't Code tags turn smilies off? They currently leave smilies untouched, leaving the code illegible. The following line has code tags and should read colon sign P (not a smilie face with a tongue sticking out):

:P

colon p with a space in between doesn't show emoticon
without a space.. it should show emoticon as normal.. otherwise I would not be able to do this:

Yes, colon space P doesn't show an emoticon, but my code has no space in it. If one were to add the space and use the code, it wouldn't work. The point of code tags is to be able to see the code without any extraneous formatting (such as emoticons) as well as to prevent the code from running. It should be just plain text.

Nice art, though

I know that, as a deal forum, not many members put snippets of code into their posts, but, for the occasional person that does, it should work. This doesn't work.

No HTML code is allowed in posts. Special symbols allow some HTML functionality.

The disclaimer is shown in both Classic and Modern views. Is this the type of Code you're talking about?

edit to add: shouldn't the disclaimer also show in Quick Reply box?

Sorry for the delay... no, I'm not looking for HTML functionality. I'm aware that HTML is not allowed. I'm referring to the code button in the advanced view that adds code tags.

Code tags are used to show someone the tags necessary to format a post/perform a particular function, without actually performing anything. It should just show straight text. I could show an example of what code tags do if they weren't broken. Like if I wanted to show you the tags necessary to bold text (without using the bold button), I couldn't as they would just bold my text rather than show up.

The term 'code' may be a scary word to someone that doesn't understand it. Until I knew what it did, I thought it could be used to actually 'do' things (like HTML). It doesn't. All it does is remove the format of what you type so it shows up as plain text. You don't need it much, but when you do, it's very useful.

I've never been to a forum where the code tags were broken (and I've been to many). I'm fully aware that probably one in a thousand users here need the functionality (or even less), but, still, if the site is going to include the functionality by having a button that inserts tags, they should work. Right now, they don't.
