I'm getting an error with the Top Deals and New Stores RSS feeds -- they're coming up as improperly formatted. The browser doesn't recognize them as feeds and the RSS reader won't display them. The others work fine.
Also, would appreciate a RSS feed for the Today's page Hot Threads -- it's the first thing most of us check on a daily basis, so the easiest way to view it would have the RSS feed on the desktop...
MVP9596 said: Both seem to be working fine for me, using firefox 3.5.3. Can you try a different reader and see if it works? I tried both in a few readers and checked the feeds with a validator as recommended by the reader error msg. New Stores has a minor link error and does display in most of the readers, but Top Deals is showing an XML error in that a displayed ampersand is not parsed as "& a m p;" and as just a "&" -- it creates an invalid token and does not display in three readers I've tried, including IE and Safari.
It said: Sorry This feed does not validate. line 169, column 86: XML parsing error: <unknown>:169:86: not well-formed (invalid token & in) Fries with Purchase (Free burger & fries w/ purchase) @ Dennys.com ... Can you pass this thread to your web services to make sure the RSS parser is working correctly. Also pass along the suggestion of a RSS feed for Hot Threads on the Today page...

Possible Top Deal causing problemsIt does, thanks. I don't know if this is a one time error or will happen every time someone uses the "&" symbol in the title -- it should parse out to "& a m p;" (no spaces) if it's working correctly.

Hi martin628,
We'll check it out to see if it's a one time error or needs a fix for future instances of "&".
Thanks for the heads up. I'll pass along your suggestion about RSS for Hot Threads, too.
Any follow up or time frame for adding RSS for Hot Threads? On the smart phone RSS reader I use, 50 misc deals takes too long to scroll and is difficult to follow. Hot Threads which is usually about 10-20 of the best deals and interesting threads is what really should be on there. I've discussed this with others, and most said it's the only RSS feed they would add on...

Hi martin628,
We are looking into the possibility of adding the RSS feed you requested, and possibly some others. No time frame as of yet, but we appreciate your request and know it would be useful.

Thanks!Well for forum categories, the number of threads is currently set to 50, regardless if the feed url is changed to a smaller number. That's fine for a web view, but a little excessive for a feed and most other sites limit it to 20 or so. If the server script allowed that to be user configurable, it might be helpful.
Perhaps most useful is to allow members to create a custom feed by applying filters such as categories or manufacturers, the same as can be applied to the web view. So if someone wanted a feed for just Netbooks, Jewelry, Dell, and Credit, it would be possible. Better than alerts, a live custom feed of just what your looking for or interested in. If this worked well and was easy to create, you could promote that as an exclusive feature. Perhaps this could also be used to create a custom page for online viewing.
Been doing a bit of investigating on this. Did you know that you can set up an RSS of your custom view here? So you can create the custom view in Hot Deals, save it, and then create RSS feeds for your specific custom views.

Is this helpful to you?Didn't know that functionality existed, but it a great new feature and now see that you have added it on the Today page. It's easy to create, but before I tried, it didn't seem obvious. Perhaps a simple FAQ could be created for those who need it, as there's no help link.
What would be great is to have all the custom views combined into a single RSS feed if that's possible, so would only have one FW feed to look through. And of course, there's no custom view for the Hot Threads, so that would be an additional feed to be added to the RSS page...
