dpstrand said:The wording on the AMEX website makes it sound like as long as $6500 was spent during the entire year, the rewards for the entire year are calculated at the 5% / 1.25% tier.
But then upon reading the posts here, it sounds as though the first $6500 is calculated at the lower 1.25% / 0.5% tier, and only purchases above $6500 get calculated at the higher tier.
I assume it must be the latter based on the posts here, bummer... yep...from what i understand...you only get the higher tier AFTER $6500 is spent and only from that point on....not retroactive on everything you spent below $6500.... |

I'm 6 months into my 12 month 0% APR and I've reached my $10K limit. I don't plan on paying off any of the balance until the promo is over. Am I just wasting my time requesting a line of credit increase? Salary, unfortunately, has not increased. |

I just tried signing up for a Costco AMEX and was immediately declined because I have the "maximum number of cards and types" with AMEX. I have two blue cash cards, a student one from 2003 (15k limit) and a regular one from 2004 (25k limit). I also have a corp card, but that's required for work.. I'm willing to close the student card, but I'm just hoping that AMEX doesn't notice the ridiculously high credit limits I have (I did CLI back when credit markets were loose), as my limits have never went down. Anyone have any guidance on what to do? I'm just scared a call to them will trigger an analysis of my credit limits. |

t60, your nervousness is understandable. I might call their customer service line and ask what cards (if any) are elligable for a "product trade" or "conversion" into the Costco card. (I'm guessing none, but it shouldn't hurt to ask). Their answer, even if negative, might clue you in to other lower-risk ways to get approval. acidtrap, the blue card does NOT earn gas rewards at Costco. The sign to which you refer is addressing their Costco TrueEarnings card, an entirely separate card line. |

If I spend over the $6500 mark in the middle of a period, does the 5% kick in right away or not until the next month? Thanks. |

What are the good options to convert rewards accumulated with gold card. |

The Gold card is a different product entirely, rustum. You'll want to search for "membership rewards points" here and elsewhere. |

yep...only for above $6500...and it's not retroactive on the below $6500 part (once you hit the $6500)... |

I currently have the costco AMEX card, would the AMEX Blue Rewards or whichever chase card gives 5% be a better option? |

AMEX recently changed the rewards % for gas; and post 6,500 is now only 1.25% on everything else (down from 1.5%) |

Where do you see that they changed gas? I still see it written as 5% everywhere for gas, groceries, and drugstores. |

I am still getting 5% on grocery and Drugstore. If you're - you're getting screwed. And btw - how are you ugys having issues getting to the 6500 tier? Just order 6500 in coins about 2 weeks before your new cardmember year starts. You'll be earning the upper tier for the entire year then. |
