Hmmm, anyone know if we would qualify if we took advantage of the $100 bonus in September (and closed account late Jan).

It is technically a new calender year for bonus....

Hard or soft pull?

Cool OP, thanks. I just moved to a place where BOTW is abundant and I need a local bank so this will work well for me. I applied but was put under review. I imagine it's because I have a new address, an driver's license from 2 moves ago in a different state, etc... hopefully they'll call and verify me and I'll be all set.

MrNovember said: Hard or soft pull?DW and I have opened a few BoW accts over the past 3 years; never a hard pull.

Noticed that this promo applies to accounts opened online, which is normally not the case with this bank. However there doesn't appear to be a promo code or anything in the application, so how do I make sure that I apply under the Ipod Touch Promo (which is valid for accounts opened online) and not the $100 promo (which is only for accounts opened at a branch)?

The date tells me that the 20 transactions or 10 bills is not a monthly requirement.

Usually in such deals they require you to make monthly transactions.

Am i getting requirements right?

it doesn't have the specs for the itouch..i'm guessing it's for the 2gb, can anyone confirm? I tried looking thru the small prints, but it doesn't mention it.. thanks!

There isn't a 3rd gen 8gb iPod touch, so yes, it would be 2nd gen.

hmm so 8gb is 2nd gen and 32gb is 3rd? i wonder why?

"The iPod will be delivered by 12/15/10".

I'm a patient person, but this is a bit of a wait...

If the 2GB is the smallest available, it's almost guaranteed that that's what you'll be getting. It wouldn't surprise me if they were using refurbs for this promotion.

What the hell - my car is through BOTW, and I can use the iPod as a Christmas gift for someone....

Tried to process an online app for free checking and it would not accept my state as an option (Alabama). Only midwest and western states are under the drop down box.

Online app only allows the following states to be selected for your address: AZ, CA, CO, ID, IA, KS, MN, MO, NE, NV, NM, ND, OK, OR, SD, UT, WA, WI, WY

i think its because they don't have any branches east of the Mississippi...so it wouldn't apply to those...

I think this offer valid only for the below states as per the small print:

Offer valid for qualifying accounts opened at participating branches in CA, CO, UT, WY, and NV or opened online.

btw. I have submitted my application online (I am from GA. put some random State in current address and given correct address as mailing address, for mailing address you can pick any state.

Thank you! Just opened account in Washington state.

Careful with this, I did a similar thing for KeyBank a while ago, and they wanted me to send utility bill at current address as proof and otherwise closing account after 10 days.

In 4 1

Anyone else having troubles faxing their signature card? lol. I keep getting comm error.

There is no 2GB Touch. 8GB is the smallest.

I faxed mine and didn't seem to have any problems. Don't forget to add the 1 in front of the number.

Can you use the debit card to buy a pack of gum every day for 20 days to satisfy the 20 debit card transactions?

According to an earlier Am@zon link, that's a $178 valued item.

Just to clarify, Bank of the West Online Banking is FREE w/ any personal checking account w/ BOTW? Just answered my own question. "Free Online Banking with Bill Pay"

Also, one cannot do a mix of debit card transactions + bill pays to qualify?

If you want 20 packs of gum...

I went to Bank of the West today to open an account but the employee mistakenly told me that I would be required to meet minimum balance requirements to waive the monthly fee. A different location correctly opened the account for me and the checking account is completely free; be careful that they don't give you incorrect information.

Isn't it a free checking account?

jetsfan92588 said: Isn't it a free checking account?

Yup...no requirement!

Wish I could do this in VA...seems easy enough for an iPod Touch.

Can also open the choice interest checking and do the $500 dd/month. You get interest (0.1%), and the ipod. Not like rates anywhere else are that much better. Fee for interest checking waived with $250/mo DD.

I wanted to verify because they way they have it worded it a bit vague. I called them and the rep said it is only for CA, CO, UT, WY, and NV even if the app is done online.

Bummer! I was hoping they meant that ANY State would qualify if you do it online

Well, I'm an optimist. So I did the app and entered all of my current address (east coast) with the state as minnesota (which I live far far away from) as my current address, and then my real address as my "home address (if different)", and my real previous address as my "previous address". I got an "app under review notice", but it let me complete all other steps. If it's not a hard pull it can't hurt.

I called too, rep told me any state has BOTW branch is fine (I live in NE).
And the promotion is on BOTW main page, if this is only for some states, they will bring more trouble for themselves later

Very confused. When they say 'CA, CO, UT, WY, and NV residents only', are they referring to the ACTUAL ACCOUNTS, or just the Ipod bonus offer?

This is what was on the screen when I began the application (nothing about being restricted to certain states):
Note: To open an account online, you must be 18 years old or older, a U.S. citizen or a U.S. Resident Alien with a valid Social Security Number and U.S. Residence address.
--------

I live in OHIO. I just finished the online application with no problems whatsoever (so far). I am awaiting the trial deposit verification. We'll see what happens.

--------
Update: Just completed the trial deposits. Probably will be declined when all is done, but it's fun trying.
--------
Thank you for choosing Bank of the West. We have processed the following opening deposit for your new Bank of the West account.

[blah blah blah]

We have removed these funds from your original funding account and will deposit them into your new account within three business days.

---------
Interesting. Account funding is now complete.
---------
Hurray. Just got some account materials in the mail.
-----
August 03
Got the BOTW Mastercard DEBIT card today. Those bears sure look scary.
-----
August 06
Well, now I am really confused with all this talk about certain states not being eligible. Here I am in Ohio happily using my BotW debit card. Either someone was wrong with this information, or BotW is really f***ed up.

Skipping 1043 Messages...

I'm glad I decided to open my statement this month. Usually I don't bother. In it was an addendum and schedule of fees and changes effective May 2, 2011. It says the monthly service charge for fresh start checking will be $12/month. I thought I had free checking, but I guess not.
