It's a dirty little secret. If we stop buying vacation homes, boats, third and fourth cars, dinners out, remodeled kitchens with commercial appliances, home theaters - you know, all those things that we just can't live without - our economy would collapse. As much as we want to encourage people to save money and be more practical in what they buy, nobody really wants the economic outcome of such responsible behavior.

agree, everyone use less electricity and then electric company just ups the rates...
I've found the opposite to be true. I have found tremendous bargains in this economy, particularly on travel. My years of living responsibly allow me to take advantage of lots of these bargains and get great deals, so I'm not cutting back. I'm spending slightly more than normal and getting a lot more.

Try explaining that to some of the miser mindsets here that think only irresponsible people enjoy themselves and eat out much less spend some money on a nice vacation.
