.

so u a .1% or 1/10% for depositing 1 million dollars into Etrade... doesnt sound that great

Min Req.: Deposit $250,000 in e-trade.

Yeah...right! E-trade is almost on the same level as Paypal is in my mind

If the bulk of your account is cash, I would forget about moving it to ETrade. If it is mostly in securities and stocks, I might transfer it. The cash bonus is worth 0.1% which is nothing to crow about.

Like I always say... Etrade (E*trade) sucks!

Yes, I also think it is a good deal if you just transfer securities into etrade from another brokerage. It doesn't make sense to transfer cash from your bank accounts.

This is funny. If Bank of America offered you fifty cents to open a bank account, would you do it?

Boo this deal. No offense to you, OP. It's just that, as others have said, this deal sucks.

As long as there is no monthly maintenance fee and no minimum required balance, I would say YES. One dollar deposit. Just to annoy BOA and clog up their bookkeeping records (and pay the postage costs for account statements).

If you have long term investments sitting around, these offers are great. In the past 5 years, I've gotten several hundred thousand frequent flyer miles, golf clubs, 3 ipods, cash and gift cards, a Kindle, a Garmin and other stuff I'm probably forgetting -- all from moving long-term investments that I don't normally touch from E*TRADE to TD Ameritrade to Fidelity to HSBC to Wells Fargo and so on.

Probably doesn't apply to everybody, but a great deal to those it does. Very little effort, all on the front end in initiating the transfer, and that's it. Better than just letting it sit in one account forever.

I agree. I got free money from opening brokerage accounts with Ameritrade, Fidelity, TD Waterhouse, E*Trade, Discover Brokerage, etc. back when the heyday of online trading started to sprout. I got hundreds of dollars.

these are absolutely great offers. every year or so u can just move money around from 1 account to another and shuffle them around and make an extra 2k or so. But if you've only got 100-200k invested this probably isn't a great deal for u.
