This was not a situation where a clerk made up the rule. the clerk actually tried to process and it looked good at first as she rang up the item but when it came time to pay and i swiped my AMEX, she got a message stating debit card can only be used. I tried it again the next day, same thing happened, this time the i had gone to where the asst manager was and he told me that there was a company policy change that started on 6/15 where they no longer take credit cards for the var visa. it worked fine for me on 6/7

I used smiths because they offer fuel rewards where i would get back discounts equal to the purchase fee when i bought these cards. There are several smiths by me and i will try a different store to see if all the stores changed or just that one, but based on what the asst mgr said it was all smiths, and perhaps Kroeger's.

Has anyone else tried to purchase at kroeger after 6/15?

Update. went back and tried to purchase the MC Var, that worked with no problem. It looks like for some reason they have only restricted this so far to visa VC. The one strange thing i have noticed of the visa vc there are 4 smiths very near my house within 3 miles each direction. the other smith stores were all out of visa vc. the one that did have them only had a few left, which did not work. not sure why, it may have been changed by smiths beacuase of the amount of cards sold. the asst mgr that told me about the change in policy on 6/15 did tell me they had a lot of fraud with visa VC recently which is why the policy was changed.

So either they are leaving mc alone, or they having gotten to mc yet

That's kind of stupid, if they thought the fraud problems were with the "Visa" part and not the "$500 gift card" part...

What's the name of the bank in the back.

Never have problems with Ralphs and USBank prepaid VC/MC gift cards.
