I believe at some point in this thread it was pointed out that some WalMart's will code as grocery stores, so you may have to pound the pavement a little for this one.
Just got a new change of terms at the end of my statement with the following:
"Reward Dollars: Reward dollar balances will not be forfeited due to inactivity on your card account."
I wonder if this is related to the Chase AARP people getting their rewards back after Chase closed the accounts. Not the same change but related to taking away earned rewards.
Great opportunity now at Shop Rite and Stop and Shop since they are giving back $10 shopping coupons for every $50 in gift cards so you essentially get an Amazon $50 gift card for $37!

It is possible to buy a series of $50 cards there, using the $10 coupon from the first on the next etc. Unlike Stop & Shop, they do not limit the number of times you can do this. Giant has a wide selection of gift cards.
You can do this at stop and shop as well. But it all depends on the cashier. There is no limit at S&S either. I have nothing to add except that Giant and Stop and Shop are the same company. (They have the same logo now.) So I would expect that their policies would be the same. I only got one coupon, by accident (didn't even know about the promo when I bought a GC).

They are different companies, but both are subsidiaries of Royal Ahold and being more integrated over time to save back office costs. Note that Giant of Pennsylvania (also owned by Ahold) has separate logo (which resembles the old S&S logo). Also note that rewards accounts do not work between the various subsidiaries. So your S&S bonus card will not work at either the Maryland or Pennsylvania based Giant stores, and visa versa.
I just got my statement this month...there is no Rewards Dollar Summary section. Though I checked online and it is reflected correctly...anybody got this issue? Scared me for a sec.
Grocery stores in my area are getting annoying; all but two of them in a 15 mile radius of my house take CC for gift card purchases (I live in central NJ, so when I say that, it means a lot of grocery stores who have lost my business). The grocery store I go to told me that there has been a lot of fraud involving people fleeing the country with the gift cards and not paying the card companies, which is why the stores stop taking it (apparently, not because they are losing money on the swipe). What a shame that *actual* fraud stops a great deal. Dumb ass prosecutors, that's the people you need to stop, not a couple of brothers who found a loop hole which Nordstrom was to lazy to close.
Anyways, its nice to go to a store and they know my name and don't ask any questions; just show me your ID and make your purchase. One grocery store had the audacity to ask me why I was buying them.
I really enjoy FreshDirect, but it pains me that I can't use the 6% feature of this card! has anyone had luck trying to convince AMEX that this is a grocery store?
I've had the original blue Cash Back card for a few years now (5% on groceries and gas). I was thinking about upgrading to the new one (6% on groceries, 3% on gas). When trying to figure out how much Cash Back I would have received if I had the new card, I got stumped. I took a look at my charge history, by category, for 1 year starting with my anniversary date (the card had that $6500 threshold you have to hit before you earn the 5%). Gas and groceries were a no brainer, but when I got to dept stores, I ran into an issue. Amazon.com is showing up as a dept store! Is that how it's categorized? I can earn 3% back on Amazon? That would be the difference maker for me. I spend about $40k a year on this card so I want to maximize the Cash Back. Looking at just gas and groceries, the 2 cards wold yield almost the same Cash Back. 43% of my total spending is just in just those 2 categories.
If the original card was still available, you you get it instead of the "upgraded" version

So I upgraded. I was 1 week into the $6500 threshold, and even without the Amazon thing, I would still make more Cash Back (taking into account the $75 fee) cause I don't have to deal with not earning anything (less the 0.5%) on the first $6500.
I run about $48K each year through my "old" Blue Cash. I'd receive less Cash Back with a conversion, even with the minimal return on the first $6500 spent per anniversary year. YMMV..........

Guess it also depends on how fast you blow through the first $6500.
Both Cards help you earn Reward Dollars redeemable for Cash Back in the form of a statement credit, gift cards, and merchandise when your Reward Dollar balance reaches $25.
How do the "Reward Dollars" Convert to cash? Is it a straight $1 in reward dollars = $1? How many "reward dollars" does it take to get a $100 gift card, etc.? Thanks

I timed my anniversary year to begin just before I pay the Red Sox for season's tickets. So I'm over the threshold for 11 1/2 months/year.Does your C.C. get a refund if the Red Sox finish in last place?

YMMV.......... It's true that the old card is probably still a very good card for people who only use one. But it's probably not best to maximize benefits with a portfolio of cards. E.g., if someone has a Citi Forward card for 5% at Amazon, restaurants, and movie theaters, and a 2% general use card, and maybe a rotating category card, then one could probably do better by adding the Preferred Blue card into a portfolio than adding in an old Blue card into the mix.
How many times are you going to tell us this story?
As many times as I wish
As for the Sox finishing in last place, AMEX won't be of help. However, hopefully the Sox will not raise their tickets prices YET AGAIN. Loge Boxes are currently $94/seat. Our Season Ticket structure is the highest in baseball..............
I am having trouble buying gift cards. The store I used to go to shut me down, something about it being to risky to sell me $2000 in gift cards per transaction. Anyone else have this problem? Any tips for continuing to buy large quantities of gift cards without getting flagged, or am I the only one trying to push the deal that far?

Does every cashier that works there know you are banned or how are you 'shut down'? Were you buying so many in a transaction that it required some kind of manager approval each time?

For GC purchase at supermarkets in my area, anything over $200 requires manager's approval. They were more than happy to sell to me before, then suddenly the shut down from upper management saying its too risky (I think there was a recent actual scammer in my area; the store I shop at wasn't hit, and the person used checks not a CC, but I think they got scared). So now, at that particular store, like a lot of grocery stores in my area, no body can buy gift cards with a credit card.
I switched stores, but I wonder if there is a something I can do to stop the ban from happening. I have heard that people have had good success at other grocery stores, has this been an issue for others?

If the store doesn't think it risky, AMEX may eventually wonder why you frequently buy $2k+ worth of groceries per day.

Do you get shut down when buying $1000 worth? How about $500? What if you also have a cart full of groceries? Would you still buy the groceries if they refuse to allow you to purchase gift cards?
FYI, in case others run into this. I signed up 4 months ago for Blue Cash Preferred and there was a promo for $150 for sign up. The promo cash just now hit my statement. If you also signed up for the card with a $150 (Preferred) or $75 (regular blue cash) then it looks like there's a 3 statement period to wait for it.
