I live in central Alabama, Birmingham area. If somebody wants to have the cat and give her a place to live after the surgery or now, I will be happy to deliver the cat up to 300 miles from here. Sorry, my daughter is 16 months old and I’ll have to take her with me for the ride, and she hates long trips. My daughter is the main reason I can’t keep the cat inside – we have one cat already and my wife thinks to bring a stray cat inside is too dangerous for the baby. The cat was never aggressive, she is very polite and almost silent (can be because of her upper lip missing). Since she is missing a lip (nobody knows why), she is a little bit messy when she eats, so she may require a larger bowl for the food. Thank you again, dear FW people. I will post the estimate bill here as soon as I have at night

I would post signs in the neighborhood to see if someone lost their cat. Also post a photo of the kitty on Craigslist to see if somone is looking for him/her.

I am so glad I came across this. I cried when I read the story because I am a complete animal lover. Thank you for paying for her xrays and attempting to help her. People would've just taken her out back and killed her.. A lot of people in this world have no sympathy for animals. They're still living things with feelings and emotions. Just because we don't understand them doesn't mean they don't need our help. It is amazing to see so many people donating to this cat as well. If I had the money I would too! I can put up $5.. I know it isn't much but I haven't even been grocery shopping in 4 weeks for myself. Think of it this way..if you ran over a child that didn't have health insurance you would have to pay for their medical bills. At least you're helping this cat. I hope it makes it. If I lived closer I'd take it. It deserves a chance at life!

I took in a cat that my neighbors threw out last year. The girlfriend had a fight with the boyfriend and decided to throw out his cat. She was homeless for a month before we took her in.
Long story short, PM me with bill and I will send you $20.
If you have reached the amount required for surgery, use it for food.

Pay $40 to have the cat put down, then walk over to a children's hospital and make a $200 donation. Guilt eradicated, problem solved. This is what I do every time we've taken a pet to the vet and we get the "Well, we can put them down or try all these expensive treatments...." talk. It's much easier said than done but we've been able to stick to it, as long as you get consensus beforehand....

It's very very nice of you to do that. As a Buddhist, vegetarian, animal lover who contribute thousands of dollars to charities such as
you have done alot for the cat. When I read the part that you left the cat on the porch overnight, I was like what. But there's so much you can do at night time when hospitals are closed. As soon as I read that you are chipping in for the surgery, the first thing that popped in my mind was "do you take donation?" I am willing to put in $50.00. Even though you might already have enough money for surgery, go buy yourself or cat something nice to enjoy.
In my opinion, when considering if an animal should be put down, it's the quality of life that counts. If the animal is going to suffer through life like with broken bone, paralysis, organ failure, it makes no sense to let the animal suffer.
However, if the animal is going to be normal and have many years to live, then he should be considered another chance at life.
Same as for human, even I do not advocate ethunasia but I saw my dad suffered complications, and pain in his last few years of life on kidney dialysis. Family members had to provide round the clock care for him. If you had to be out of state or away on a job, you had to find another job or figure something else out. The bill was 10k/month (yes per month) in dialysis bills. Not that the money matters but he didn't feel better afterwards. Once you are on kidney dialysis, you are addicted to it. The dialysis center must be a money maker since I later learned that some of the dialysis centers are owned by casinos.
You could a lot more with the cash being spent here by humanely having the cat put down and giving the cash to a shelter.

We did a similar thing for a stray cat that my wife had been feeding a few years back (well not entirely similar - the cat got a really bad eye infection that required surgery). Anyway, you will probably need to confirm with the vet, but you are probably going to need to keep the cat inside for a few weeks after the surgery (at least that is what we were told), because the cat is going to feel like shit and depending on how bad it might feel, it could just lay down somewhere and decide never to get back up. That's what happened with us, and then it became not a stray cat anymore.
We were lucky, though, and after all was said and done, a series of tests and things that should have cost about 1400 bucks "only" cost 700 bucks.

My wife just took the cat back home from the vet. The earliest day for the surgery is Thursday next week with that vet, and I will check another place that is open tomorrow (Saturday) if they can do it cheaper and sooner. I will also check our local community college (Jefferson state community college) that has a vet program if they can do the surgery. If everything goes well I will do my best to convince my wife that the cat can live with us (unless somebody wants the cat) – it makes no financial sense to keep her outside to run her over again. My wife is shocked by FW and was speechless when I told her what is going on. I will pay in full with my credit card and post estimate and final bill here. The estimate will be posted at around 8 pm Central time tonight. Thank you all, dear FW people

Wife and I had a day off work a few months ago. Kids at school so we were hanging out. On our way out we approached a stoplight and out of the corner of my eye I see an animal in the gutter. I asked my wife if that was a squirrel. She said no, it is a kitten. Knowing she would never put out if I didn't go back, I turned around and got the kitten out of the gutter. The cat had a huge hole in it's neck and was infested with more fleas than I have ever seen.
We used an old towel to cover the cat up and again knowing my wife would never put out again if I didn't, I headed for the closest vet hospital. Nice vet working examined the cat and found a large parasite in the hole in the neck. She removed the parasite (some sort of fly bite larvae), shoved the flea pill up the cats butt and said the cat would be fine.
Having nowhere for the cat to go we took it home. Having two large dogs who don't like cats made the household rather adventurous for about six weeks. Finally everyone got along and declawing and neutering later the cat is a happy member of the household. I won't go into to many details but the wife definaetly put out afterwards.
Sometimes doing things for the wrong reasons pays off. Thanks for taking care of the cat. Sounds like you have enough in donations for the surgery or I would offer a donation. Let us know how it comes out.

Given that the OP may not be likely to keep this cat, is it worthwhile looking into if anyone from FW wants to adopt. I know the OP is willing to drive up to 300 miles, but if some FW'er is further away we need to explore other transportation options.
Does anyone know the process for transporting unaccompanied pets? Do airlines do this?
If someone can shed some light, I can call around and try to see if some company can do this complimentary or for a substantially reduced charge. If there is any money left from the donations coming in, perhaps it can be used towards this or perhaps we raise some more money towards this cause. I too would be willing to contribute in addition to running all the logistics.
If the OP agrees I can even place an ad in his local CL and other websites. I can provide my contact information and coordinate screening of potential owners.
Though it wouldn't be as much fun if a non-FW'er adopts it since we won't get regular updates on our new mascot
Ideas/suggestions welcome!

As soon as the surgery takes place and goes well I will do my best to bribe my wife to adopt the cat to keep her inside. She will have to see that the cat is clean most likely, can use a litter box and is not dangerous. After FW thing she may change her opinion about adopting her. If I can’t convince her, I will be most happy to do an active search for a new owner. Thank you
