I know I can do a search.

My point was folks should post the entire deal including a link to the offer. (once)
instead of each person having to go search for it.

You can have even put link in Quick Summary !

I filled out the online application Saturday 8/6.
Received an e-mail stating I should hear from them 1-2 business days.
I have money sitting at Alliant CU waiting to ACH over. At least I'm getting 1.15% during the holding process.

is this a good bank? which airline do you get miles for?

No hard pull!
My account is opened now.
ACH transaction is in the process of verification of the small deposits.
I'm going to go for the 1.30% interest rate and pray that it lasts for a while.

Account opened!
ACH completed!
Alliant CU transfer of funds into UFB Direct Savings.
1.30% APY+ AA airline miles as a minor bonus.

I contacted UFB Direct both Monday & Tuesday to complete the process to open my account.
The Reps were friendly, had knowledge of the workings within the bank. The Rep I worked with even returned my call to finalize my account with Account #.
Shortly after that I was able to log into my account.

This seems like the best deal out there, why isn't GREEN?

Apparently I can't do a ACH with only the savings account. I have to open a checking account also and use that to fund the savings account.

I wonder why they call this an airline rewards savings? You only get miles for signing up and on the anniversary date but how much you put in doesn't really affect anything to do with "airline rewards".

This isn't getting any green because having to set up a checking in order to get your money back out is a HUGE PITA. If they would just allow ACH into and out of the savings, it would obviate the frustration. I'd rather set up an ING account and keep the fast transfer capacity.

I use Alliant CU to ACH funds into UFB Direct Savings.
I haven't needed to take any money out, but when that time comes I'll ACH with Alliant.
Simple, no need to worry about using UFB to move the funds!

"UFB" must be a zombie. It will never die.

That's fine, but the quick summary of the Liquid Accounts info page didn't correctly reflect that this account can't orig ACH xfer. I updated it. Still, it's a bit better than the going rate, so I'm not going to complain. Does UFB/BofI have a history of doing interest rate bait and switch maneuvers?

Is it possible to tx from checking to savings? When I try, it gives me "Account access has been denied. Please contact customer service."

Decent liquid funds rates are hard to find in today's climate.
Just hoping this rate hangs on, 1.30% APY, can't be beat today.

Guys - is there a way to be sure that the funds are FDIC insured? I can't find anything about UFB on the FDIC website. Now I realize that, based on the UFB website, UFB is a division of BofI Federal Bank; but shouldn't there be a way to verify FDIC coverage of UFB's deposits on the FDIC website?

Right there on the link site! It says FDIC member.
That's good enuf for me.

Has anyone been able to add their UFB Direct account to Yodlee? I just opened an account, but it seems Yodlee doesn't support them, which is a deal breaker for me.

Update: I contacted Yodlee customer support, and they confirmed that they don't support UFB. Here's the response I got from them:

Thank you for contacting Yodlee Client Services and Support.

Our understanding of the reported issue is: You want to link UFB Direct Banking Center account in Yodlee MoneyCenter.

We are sorry to inform that UFB Direct Banking Center site is no longer supported by Yodlee due to technical impediments.

We advise you to kindly create a manual (custom) account and enter the log in URL of the above account in the URL field and update the account manually in order to view the account details.

Does anyone know if PIN based Debit transactions count as POS debit transactions?

For current account holders, what is the application process?

I applied about a week ago, provided ACH information for funding, and found that account had some trial deposits sent/withdrawn. Nothing in the mail/email about log in information, and the funded balance has not been deducted from the external account -- only the trial deposits

I would give them a call and find out "what's the hold-up".
It only took about 3-4 days for the whole process to be completed for me.

Tried to give them a ring -- they're available via phone from 6am-6pm PST, so I missed them after work. That same evening, incidentally, I received further log in and verification instructions via email.

I just sent them a secure message to verify ACH routing number so I can push some funds in.

Good to see UFB is supported by Mint/Yodlee -- one less account to have to log in to!

Their almost non-existing customer service kept me from 'investing' my $ - I'll sleep much better with American Express' 1.0%

Just discovered the Airline Rewards Savings account is not eligible for external transfers... cannot originate, must push from an external

This institution is fraught with inconveniences. That, after opening an account with them, I chose to avoid it. A few extra bucks in interest may not worth the hassle.

My review of UFB Direct:

I saw the listing at the top of this thread with their 1.3% interest rate, and spent about 20 minutes checking out their website. After determining it was legit, I signed up for an account and setup an initial $100 transfer from my bank. However, I wasn't able to get into my account. I called customer service, and the guy told me I needed to wait 24-48 hours before I can access it.

A week passes and I don't do anything, but I noticed $100 transferred out from my bank, so I try to logon to UFB Direct again. Still doesn't work. I call customer service again, and this time get someone more helpful. There is an arcane setup process for creating a new account. It involves signing up for an account, logging out, signing back in with your SSN, clicking a couple things, setting a new ID, waiting a day, and then signing back in with your new ID.

Great, finally setup and ready to transfer more funds. Hmmm... when I get to the page to transfer external funds, it says I need to call customer service to setup an external transfer. I call up once more and get someone else who tells me I can not setup an external account to transfer from because they have an "old fashioned style savings account." I can either send them a check or do a wire transfer. I could also initiate a transfer from my other bank account to UFB Direct. You can not initiate with UFB Direct. (Somehow they were able to get my initial $100 when I set up the account though.)

How about if I setup a UFB checking account, transfer to that, and then transfer from UFB Checking to UFB Savings? You can do that, but there is a limit of $2,000 per day and $5,000 per month. (I think, the rep didn't seem completely confident in that.)

I had been planning on storing a substantial amount of emergency funds at UFB Direct. However, they have too many hoops to jump through to get or deposit your money. I'll be closing my account, as soon as I can figure out how...

I have not had a problem with UFB Direct!

I use my Alliant CU as a hub and transfer money into the account.
Since UFB Direct's (1.30%) savings rate, is the best around the country, I haven't removed any funds.

I signed up for their checking and saving accounts. The online interface works well. The transactions, e.g. internal account transfers, are usually not instantly reflected on the website, but the information will eventually propagate to the right places. Their customer service representatives are personable, and it's easier to reach a representative at UFB than most of the major banks. The UFB reps have certainly been more helpful, too. I think it has something to do with UFB being a smaller bank, and all their representatives seem to know enough about their bank. I really like it when they know exactly whom to talk to when they didn't have the information. And, amazingly, they know each other by first-name, too!

There were a few careless hiccups so far - some from me, but UFB did make some minor mistakes. All of them were quickly resolved by a phone call. That was impressive.

I'd still be careful about using the UFB accounts, but if this bank manages to keep this quality of service while perfecting its operations, I may even start using it as my primary bank. I hope that it manages to stay in business this time around.

An interesting note is that even the services at the big banks are improving these days. The services at the branches are great, but their phone/online support are usually awful and definitely no match to UFB.

It didn't take long to get the account set up but I am soooo not happy at the hoops I have to jump through to get my money into this account.

I started out with the initial $100 and that was fine. But my primary checking at my CU won't external transfer to a savings account, only checking. Ok. So, I try my alternate checking and they will. So I link UFB to my alternate checking. So now when I want to transfer money, I have to pull money from my primary to my alternate checking and then push it into UFB savings. It's going to be a bit of a headache and take longer because of holds.

I knew going into this that it would probably be a headache though. Once I can get all my funding money from Dollar Savings Direct to my alternate account and wait out the 5 day hold on funds, then I can start transferring money to UFB and deal with the 5k daily transfer limits. Just hope all this trouble is worth it and that they don't drop the rate any time soon after all this.

Be warned that unless you have an originating account that is capable of external transfers, it's going to be difficult to make regular transfers in and out of this savings account. Oh, and wanted to mention as well that when I call the # listed on their site, it won't recognize the number options I push on my phone to get assistance. SO frustrating. And now I can't even get to my account because the log in takes me right back to the log in on the homepage. I don't know if this is a problem for anyone else. I'm not so sure about how this is going to work out....

Has anyone just written a check to themselves and deposited it using the scanning feature in MyDeposit to avoid the headache of electronic ACH transfer into the savings account?

I did a scan deposit with their Java scanning software. Everything went well. And, yes, much better than their ACH. I've never seen such constraints on ACH from an online bank, but the scanned check deposit is convenient enough.
