Got the $100 bonus. It comes with the statement, so be careful since I usually read and shred my statements immediately after. The check is tagged at the last page like it was a BT check.

Just to share my application experience, after submission, I was not provided with a phone number to call in to verify my information. Nonetheless, I called up two days later and was told I was approved with a ~11k limit. One day later, I received the same information in an email, and now, a 1.5 weeks later, I just received my card. No fraud/investigation department ever called me, and when I called in, they was no grand inquisition. All in all, I didn't need to call in and this has been an easy signup process.
Looks like I had a slightly different application experience than others. I applied at around 4pm today and got a message immediately after I hit the "Submit" button that told me to call a 1-877 number with an application verification code. I called in immediately, and I answered about 5 minutes' worth of verification questions before being approved right away for the card. It was a relatively painless process -- I was only questioned on sources of income, employment, and the basics (address, date of birth, etc.).
Interestingly enough, my older brother applied for the card about 1/2 hour after I did, but got a message that said that his application is being processed and that someone would contact him if they needed further information to finalize the decision.
Many thanks to other FWers who forewarned me about the need to be prepared to answer any questions that may be thrown at me -- I had a "cheat sheet" in front of me during the phone call, which helped.
As a point of reference, I'm a graduate student and my Transrisk score is 767 and my Vantage Score is 840 (both from CreditKarma.com). I have 6 other credit cards and no other loans/sources of credit.
lad said: If you spend less than $500 in gas/groceries each month, any reason not to get this card over PenFed 5% gas card? Curious as to others' thoughts on this as well, for those with both 5% cards...
Frankly I don't spend $500 worth of gas and grocery combined. Penfed provides automatic monthly reimbursements, which is incredible convenient. Whereas with the Sallie Mae, >$25 of Cash Back must accrue before Cash Back can be requested. Furthermore, I can't think of any perks either offers over the other when it comes down to gas -- it's not as if there are extended warranties or waived service fees here
My brother received an email and phone call this morning from Sallie Mae requesting identification verification. He was asked to call a DIFFERENT 1-877 number from what I called (my brother's number turned out to be Sallie Mae's Security Department) and was also asked 5-8 minutes of questions ranging from mortgage, credit card lenders, credit limit, and other basic stuff that could all be found on a credit report. He was approved as well.

agreed, can you double check your groceries and gas? When I called to activate, they specifically said that gas and groceries were in the same pot.
You are correct. The small amount of gas along with the bonus cash made it difficult to figure the reward.
I edited the earlier post. The gas and groceries have a combined maximum of $500, it now works out to the penny.
Here is the result: 1. Amazon payment 1% 2. WalMart Super Center, Market Place, Target super Center, Dominick, some Mexican grocery store 5% 3. All drug Store 1% 4. Amazon and Amazon marketplace 5%
I just noticed that Sallie Mae now offers additional CashBack both in-store and via online links, aside from the gas, groceries and books, now through 3/31/2012. It's buried on their site.
1. Login at creditcards.salliemae.com 2. Click on "Rewards" in the top navigation bar 3. Click the "Redeem Now" button in the middle of the page (a new window will open that redirects to a page on the RewardStep.com domain) 4. Click "Earn More" on the top or side navigation (a window will open to a page on the RewardsChoices.com domain) 5. Select "Offer Type" as "online" or pick "In-Store" and input your zip, and then hit Start Search 6. Viola. 303 online CashBack offers and 500+ local instore offers (at least in NYC area)
In-Store - Sample Deals: Banana Republic - 3% on purchases over $70 Seven - 10% on purchases over $100
Online - Sample Deals (I just pulled a few that seemed to be good deals relative to other CashBack sites) 1800contacts - 8% BananaRepublic.com - 5% cafepress.com - 20% Cooking.com - 7% eBags - 14% iTunes - 5% JCrew.com - 10% KodakGallery - 15% MelissaandDoug.com - 10% Samsonite.com - 5% Shoes.com - 17% Snapfish.com - 13% Westin.com - 6% Wine.com - 5% Zales.com - 5%

Thanks for the heads-up.
Just a note that my first statement arrived without a check but with a note to redeem online for a check or statement credit. $125 statement credit for me
and all my amzn purchases have been at 5% thus far.

Yea, I got my first statement today. No $100 check attached to the statement, but the $100 appears in the rewards summary which I can redeem online to "receive a statement credit or check"
I can confirm tyhe 3% FOREX (wife bought $22 in books from the UK as an xmas present - $.66 Forex fee charged). Apparently, bookstores in the UK aren't classified as bookstores (the $22 was charged to "the book depository", and got +1% rewards - 3%FOREX, but was still cheaper than Amazon.com after shipping).

Probably like Citi or Discover CashBack malls. Though 6% at Westin is very good compared to other CashBack sites
Can confirm that i got 5% at Target on non food item, 5% at Super WalMart non food item, 5% at Whole Foods and 5% at the International Food store in Orlando, FL.

I just looked at this again in more detail. Target.com is 5% through this site (select online store). I wonder if that means Target.com will get 5+5 (10% off) since folks are reporting Target gets 5% at grocery? Barnes & Noble = 6% - I wonder if that will get 11% CashBack?
Welp, got a new one on me, has anyone experienced anything like this with this card?
> First stmt closes 12/6, $25 min pymt due 1/2 > Immediately go to website and, seeing they have AutoPay, happily enroll for minimum pymt each month, and receive a confirmation # > Check out acct online 1/4, no payment to be found anywhere, but considering the ghetto-ness of their website, decide maybe it won't show up until the next stmt closes. Plus, I still show as enrolled in Auto-Pay. > Stmt closes 1/6, still no sign of a payment anywhere > BUT, also no sign of any interest/fee charges on the new stmt, my total balance remains the sum total of all purchases only
What the deuce? Have I stumbled across a reality that they don't even require minimum payments? Pondering whether to: A) Call in and ask them WTF, to be sure no fees are charged/stick, or they cancel my card and I find out next time I'm trying to buy groceries B) Submit a payment immediately for at least what the minimum is THIS month C) Do nothing and see if anything comes out THIS month/what the next stmt looks like
Call. I haven't done this for sallie Mae, but other credit card auto pays sometimes don't start until the next full statement, it would have been in the terms someplace. It's usually not obvious. So I'd setup autopay then pay my existing balance

I was intrigued by the above and investigated further. It seems that all the stores listed (online and retial) have cashbacks valid only through 3/31/12, which suggests that the list may change on a quarterly basis and renders it similar to rotating categories offered by most other cards (the CashBack percentages are of course different).
One important thing to confirm is whether the CashBack percentages on the site are IN ADDITION to the 5% CashBack from the card when shopping at stores such as Target and Barnes and Noble.
CalebOC said: Dumb question: how do I find out the Cash Back rate for a given purchase I made? I don't see anything on my statement.
I built a spreadsheet. All they give you on the statement is:
Rewards Summary
Rewards Earned on Everyday Spend $X.XX Other Bonus Rewards $Y.YY
I know what definitely gives me 5%, then it was just fiddling with the reference cells to figure out what else was getting me 5% and what was giving me 1%.
Just applied for the card and got the note to call them for an interrgation. All went well there and got approved for $13k. The bad part is I was told that the $100 bonus is NOT associated with the 5% Cash Back card and only is with the 3% card. Anyone else get told this?

No. I have the 5% and got the $100. Did you get that from the financial review/identity interview? That didn't come up in our conversation. I called in my app, and confirm on the phone then and then again upon card activation.

The T&C from the online app link also mentions the $100. I'll definitely fight for it. It was the "interrogator" that mentioned it was not valid for this offer. She also could not confirm details about the Cash Back either and admitted her knowledge was limited on the subject.
