FYI, I had the original United card (got 50K) and then got the CO card (got 50k). The year mark hit and I cancelled the original United card but noticed they had this new MileagePlus Explorer card. I signed up for this card a couple months ago and got 50k as well.

Called Chase and took my oldest card (13 years!) down to $5K CL before applying since I already have two Chase CCs. Got instant approval after logging into United, then visiting the direct link TWICE. Was 40K/50K the first time, 50K/60K the second time.
Thanks OP...took care of this in five minutes over my lunch hour!

I tried a couple of times using Firefox, but it didn't work. It kept redirecting me to the 40,000 miles offer. Then, I tried Chrome and I got the 60,000 offer. However, I have been deferred. I will call in a day or two. The reps always approve me after a quick chat.

For those of you that don't fly;
Ipod Touch 8GB is 43,700 miles. Ipod Touch 32GB is 59,500 miles. Ipad 2 16GB WifI is 107,800 miles.
Does chase have some rule where you can't get more than one promotion in 6 months? I had a CSR tell me that but wasn't sure if it's a strict rule or not. I recently got $300 from a chase freedom card

Transferred some miles from my Continental OnePass account over earlier today, and saw the 50k, and applied, and received it. I have a decent number of chase accounts, but it seems to be happy with me.
Just signed up for the 60K Explorer deal on Monday. I already have a MileagePlus Signature Visa with Chase. Had 50k miles in my MP account with United. Had nothing with Continental. As per your advice, I logged into my MP account, but I still saw the 40k offer. I then closed the tab, then clicked on the link provided for the 6k offer and saw the page with the offer. Filled the information and just got an e-mail confirming that I will get the card in the mail and the body of the e-mail mentioned that I would be getting 50k miles on first use of the card. When I signed up, there was nothing on that page that mentioned the offer but the link that led me to the form page had the 60k offer. I hope this helps people with similar questions/situations.

Thanks. I just got a Southwest card not long ago for 50,000 miles. Now this. I churn Airline cards about every 6 months, so this fell right into place. I did the Southwest 50,000 miles twice last year and was able to get a companion pass for this year since even the promotional miles count. I see they upped it to 110,000 for a companion pass this year, but that should be pretty simple with two 50,000 bonuses.
Chase is crazy at giving out these promotions. Dont be scared. I do it alot! Plus my wife does it so we double dip.
Edit: I was deferred too, so I figured no go, but just logged on to my Chase account and saw the United card listed.

Deferred. Still nothing in my Chase account, but I'll wait a few days before I call.
BEWARE! somebody earlier said it right, it's one thing to get approved, it's another to GET the miles! I looked at the website, it said 40k for general public. When I signed in (I'm a premiere member, not sure if it made a difference but just in case people are wondering), then the offer became 60,000. I clicked thru the links that guided me to an online application. I applied 9 days ago and received the card today in the mail. When I tried to activate the card, the customer rep on the phone reminded me that with my first purchase I'd receive 25,000 miles. I thought I heard it wrong! After further confirmation, it turned out that it was indeed just 25,000, not 50,000 written in my account with Chase. I don't know what to say. Luckily I do have a screen shot from the 60,000 mileage offer, but it wasn't side by side with my online application. I am very disappointed with this, maybe it's a new IT program that somehow left my attached promo code behind in the dust when I submitted the application. They did offer me to dispute that by faxing them my proof for the marketing to consider revising mine from 25,000 to 50,000, I'm going to do that ASAP. But honestly, what are the odds that they just come back and say, hey look, I know you got the screen shot, but it's not on your application. Then what? For now, I'm going to take a leap of faith and fax to the Chase United mileage plus marketing folks as they recommended, but this whole thing is really irritating. Of course I was even mad at me for putting way too much trust when they took me from one page that says 50,000 miles to the application page that made no reference to it. I even printed out a confirmation that had the terms and conditions with interest rates n all, but nothing regarding 50,000 (60k if you count a 1 year bonus after spending $25k).

SUPER!!
I had a MP account for over 10 years now with no activity. Transferred 5 (FIVE) miles 2 days back from Conti. Logged again today, and got the 60K offer. Clocked "Apply Now". Corrected address as I have moved 3 years back. And Instant approval!!
fyi : I have the Conti card from the 50K offer last year. Called to cancel 1 week back and they gave me $100 credit to offset annual fee Now will have this VISA Signature in addition to the Conti mastercard

Same here, e-mail says We're pleased to share that you have been approved for the MileagePlus® Explorer Card.
You will be receiving your new Card within 5-7 business days, along with details about your Cardmember benefits. When it arrives, please verify receipt by calling the number on the front of your Card.
Remember, you will receive 50,000 bonus miles after the first use of your Card.¹ That could be enough for roundtrip award travel.

So are people actually planning on trying to spend $25,000 within the first year to get the extra 10,000 miles? Seems like a ridiculous spend amount for only 10,000 miles.

yeah there's no way anyone would do the 25000 for 10000, you could get way better bonuses opening other cards with that spending, or at a minimum using the continental onepass card for 1 mile/dollar spent and transferring to united, not to mention 25000 for 10000 is close to what it would take to simply buy the miles.

You still get the points from spending $25k, so you would get 25k points + 10k point bonus = 35k points total for spending $25k. That puts the value of the points earned at 1.4 points per dollar spent.

I was about to jump on this as a long time (10+ year) continental flyer. I have redeemed several reward flights on contentinal.com over the years, and I have been pleased by the selection of saver fares.
I checked into the reward flight search on United.com yesterday and I was very disappointed by the selection of saver fares, and the flights in general. For many routes, I could not select a nonstop flight with miles, even though I could see the flight available on travel search engines. The non-stops were about the same cash price as the layovers, so I can't see it being a money thing.
Because of this discovery, I have been holding off on applying for the 50k united card, and I'm thinking I will be waiting for a similar offer for another airline later this year.

I did not receive miles for my Mileage Explorer card on the statement close yesterday. I made one charge for $1.25 and got 2 points. This may be because when I called on 12/2x or so to close my Continental card, they did not end up closing it. I had to call again around 1/1x to close it.
This may also be because I have done a prior United card deal for 50k miles, and I've since downgraded that card to a 0.5% back version, which I've left open. I'll have to figure this out...
Edit. Spent a few bucks on second cycle. Got 50k points + 1% of spending on 2nd statement without issue.

Has anyone applied recently (last day or so) and had this work? I am a long time CO flyer and I applied for the CO Chase card a year ago, but I never had a United account. For this deal, I created a new MileagePlus account and transferred some miles over. When I long into my new MileagePlus account (with my freshly transferred miles), I do see the 60k offer. I have gone through the application 4 times so far (twice in IE, twice in Chrome) and I get kicked out to a Chase screen that says something like:
Application Unavailable
It has some wording that talks about the offer I want is no longer available and has a link to look for similar offers. If I follow that, I can find the 40K offer. I tried calling Chase, but they were not very helpful. Maybe I need to let my account age for another day. I did cancel my Chase CO account, create a new MileagePlus account, and transfer miles all on the same day.
Thanks...

First, I am not a United/Continental fanboy. The most spectacular use of miles is international first/business first flights, not domestic. For that category, United/Continental is usually far superior to other programs. They are 2-1 better than Delta. Just booked two tickets fro my niece and future husband SFO to South Africa and back, 480k Delta. For ~ United, 240k. And the Delta was down from 760k. Almost all US-Europe are 100k rt from United in first class. Try it, you won't go back. Especially if you end up on their partner Lufthansa.

The Continental card should not be a problem as long as it was before 7/19/11. Not sure that magic date should be application/issue/bonus posting date though, as I did not read in that much detail.

If anyone has success applying for the 60k miles in the next few days, please report. I just called Chase and just got the reacharound.

I just spoke with Chase and they said that they have gotten multiple calls today that the application fails upon submission (which is what happened to me). They have people looking into it and advised me to reapply in 24 hours. She also said that another mailer might go out with the offer if necessary.

The number of points needed for items drops dramatically once you log in to your account. The Ipad2 listed above is 66,100 miles once you log in (other configurations vary up to 103,900 for 64GB w/ WiFi & 3G). Still a lot of miles, but for those that don't fly a lot, it may be worth it.
Edit: Actually, the number of miles for merchandise changes based on your status or possibly the number of miles in your account. I was able to get the numbers above if I used my Continental login. I have mid-level status with them (Gold) and around 500,000 miles. If I log-in with my new United MileagePlus account (no status until the merger, only 1000 miles from a recent transfer), then the prices/miles go up. 89,800 for the base Ipad2, 147,000 for the higher end model.

Breaking news: it appears they have fixed the application error. I'm not totally in the clear, as their "analysts are currently reviewing" my application. With a credit score of over 800, I can't remember the last I haven't gotten instant approval, if ever. I did own the OnePass card and cancelled last Saturday, so I hope that didn't have an effect; it didn't appear to for others. But I'll be darned if those 4 times I attempted to apply yesterday and received the site error counted as inquiries!

I did not get instant approval either and I almost always do. I did have to use Chrome to do the application, though. If I used IE, I would see the 60K offer in the MileagePlus account, but when I clicked through, it would take me to the 40K offer: https://www.theexplorercard.com/MPYoureIn40kAFW.aspx .
When I used Chrome, clicking on the 60K offer did show the 60K screen on the next page: https://www.theexplorercard.com/MPYoureIn60kAFW.aspx . If you follow either of these links from this thread, they will both take you to the 40K offer. You need to be logged in to the MileagePlus account and follow the offer from there.
I took plenty of screen shots and did print outs. I am not 100% confident that I will actuall get the 60K offer. We will see in 2 weeks when I (hopefully) get my card.
