most of this info (except the 0 BT fee) has been posted before.
related to the 0 BT fee. this card always has a 0% cash advance fee, which is subject to a 9.99% APR.

Good card. If you only puchase airfare with it, and redeem for only airfare. It is is a 6.25% rewards card.
•20,000 bonus points when you spend $650 in the first 3 months of opening the Card – that’s worth $250 toward your next round-trip airline ticket
isn't correct. I login and I can get a $496 plane ticket for 39,500 points.

I think that is close enough, right?

20000/$250 = 80 points/$

39500/$496 = 79.7 points/$

It doesn't for me either. I tried copy/past too, and that doesn't work

it's a public offer.
goto penfed.org
click products, then credit cards, then travel rewards.
you do not need to be logged in.

The rewards points are good for $200 worth of gift card for those who don't need airfare. The selection is excellent; Rewards Site; gas cards, Amazon, WalMart, Target, Barnes, Staples, Dell, Home Depot, etc.

They also have the no-fee Platinum visa card which gets you 25,000 points (inc 5points/$1 on gas and 3points/$1 in supermarkets)

Earn 5 points per dollar spent on gas purchases*
Earn 3 points per dollar spent on supermarket purchases*

thanks OP and MisterED (the other platinum visa card sounds more interesting).... I like 5 points on gas and also 3 points on grocery (is supermarket == grocery)?

Anyone know which rating agency they pull from? (TU, EXP, EQ)?

According to the credit pulls database they always pull Equifax

I've pretty much shot my load as far as getting new CC's. Me and my wife have each gotten about 7 in the last 6 months and now everyone is denying me for "too many applications." My CS is around 796 so that isn't the issue. How long do I have to wait to clear this? We have also closed an equal amount of cards which has NOT affected my CS more than 1 or 2 points. A couple of my cards go back 40 years.

Sears was my first in 1968 the year I got married and was making 95cents/hr working part-time for Macy's while in Kollidge full time! We bought a Kenmore sewing machine for $80 which my new bride never used.

cool it on the applications for at least 3 months. This has been a standard sign up bonus for this card for as long as I've known the card existed, I don't think it's going aay anytime soon.

Anybody have both cards? I was wondering it there is a way to combine the reward accounts. I currently have two different accounts on the rewards site.

there is not. I have confirmed on multiple phone calls with PenFed, that the rewards counts remain separate for each card.

It would be nice if those 5X gas rewards transferred to Travel AMEX rewards points so they could be redeemed with the bonus.

Does anyone know if I open the savings account so I can apply for this card, will they pull two separate hard inquiries on my credit report or just once for both savings and credit card?

No, its only one hard pull if you do them all within the same few days.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the card to come? I am mostly interested in the card becasue it does not charge foreign transaction fees, but I need it ASAP, so that I can book an airline ticket on a foreign carrier for an upcoming trip.

I submitted the app at 9pm on a thursday, and the card was in my mailbox 8 days later on Friday. Instant approval; at some point during the week they also sent me a paper app to fill out for some reason, which I mailed back the next day (no fax number evident), but judging by the arrival of the card, I don't guess they were waiting on the paper app for mailing the card.

Just FYI, they don't give you the bonus points until after the first 3 months - just called this morning and checked, as I had already hit $1k in my first statement -

Cheers,

It looks like this waiting period is no longer valid. I have seen several posters on the other PenFed Visa thread say they got their 20K bonus in less than three months. I reached $1000 on Thursday the 17th. The 20K bonus points showed up today. My account opening was 3-28-2012. My first transaction was not until 4-8. It came in handy since I have a backyard project and the $250 worth of Lowe's GCs is just what I needed.

Got mine 2 weeks ago - way less than 3 months.

When I applied 18 months ago they gave me a $20K limit (at the same time they approved me for a $30K vehicle loan). I had used the hard pull for the vehicle loan, figured I should see what else I could get out of them. Flash forward to this spring and I started the application process for a home purchase mortgage (didnt complete the application because I went with the NFCU 100% financing deal) and Penfed raised the limit on my credit card by $4K - of course I hadn't been using it so maybe they are encouraging me to puchase more crap for the house.

20000/$250 = 80 points/$

39500/$496 = 79.7 points/$

Well it looks like they changed it. Now 20K points is only worth $220 (for all the flights I look up), and they changed the offer page from "worth $250 towards..." to "worth over $200 towards..."

Bummer.

Huh.
yeah, it looks like a 10% bonus now, not a 25% bonus.

Both cards show a $50,000 max CL on their website (under options tab on main credit cards page).

My question: Will Penfed approved both of these cards at the same time?

rated:

Small data point... Pretty generous with the credit limit - 36K, few inquiries ~ 765. Seems like their "join" functionality might be broken right now. Tried multiple times in IE and once in FireFox and get an error (trying to sign up my wife to make it a "times 2" signup bonus).

I just got the Platinum card and was wondering if it would be wise to apply immediately for the American Express Travel card also. In theory they could use on credit pull for both, but do they.

I was rather disappointed in the credit limit ($2500, much less than with other banks) and wonder whether to try to appeal. Admittedly, $2500 will cover my gasoline spending (I have an AMEX Blue for groceries and a 2% Fidelity 529 card), but I could imagine uses for a higher limit.

Which agency does PenFed pull from, does anyone know? TIA.

Their Visa card rewards program has a couple of interesting features I noticed.

The rewards link is on the left as a separate option, which takes you to a separate site where you need to set up a login and password.

The Cash Back option is in the form of Visa prepaid cards (which are a little more hassle to use). The Visa gift card option seems the most flexible (you can spend on anything) does have inactivity fees, creating a small risk if you do not use it promptly. "An inactivity fee of $3.00 will be deducted from the balance of the card monthly after 12 months of dormacy, plus the month of issue." It is not clear whether this can be used on line without the trouble of registering them and assigning an address.

For those that use this card primarily for gasoline, it could take a while to accumulate enough points to get a $50 Visa, which is the minimum available.

I noticed they had occasional cards on sale, (slightly cheaper than the usual 25,000 points for a $25 card. The ads rotate, but if you click on "View All" you can see all of the ones on sale. None give gigantic savings, with the best being 2300 points for a LL. Bean $25 card. I picked up a couple of CVS Pharmacy cards for 2400 points each. I shop there enough so the saving is real and they do not expire.

Note that if you just search for these cards using the search function, you will only find the $25 card for 2500 points. You cannot put the "sale " cards in your wish list, so if you put your desired cards in the list, you may miss the sales option and pay more points than needed.

Also, in the future it will take less time to accumulate points for a $25 cards than for a $50 Visa.

If accumulating that many points still takes too long, there are gift cards available for 1000 points, and a $5 Fandango credit for $500, and the Instant E-Certificates" includes some games for as little as 200 points (earned after a $40 gasoline purchase).

Do you get the 10% bonus for redeeming points for airfare with the Platinum Rewards VISA, or is that just for the Premium Travel AMEX?

rated:

It appears that as of 10-01-2012 Rewards cannot be used for Visa cash cards.

The Pen Fed CashBack card give you a credit statement, the other rewards cards give you a choice of gift cards or direct items.

Also, for the Pen Fed travel cards, the sign-up bonus is for Pen Fed AMEX only and no longer for Pen Fed Visa.
