chase online access temporarily down

I tried to log into my personal chase accounts, and got this message:

"Your User ID and Password are inactive. To reactivate your online access, please call Customer Service at 1-877-242-7372. If you live outside the U.S., please contact Customer Service at 1-713-262-3300."

I tried to log into my "business" account and got the same message. I feared the blacklist.....

But after calling the number on the back of my card, turns out they're doing system maintenance. CSR advised to try back in a couple hours.

Thanks for that! Thought I was the only one and was having a panic attack, fearing they closed my account. Chase Mobile app not working as well.

i just got off the phone from moving $7k from my $9k freedom to a slate i just applied for (plan on doing a bt), and then came back to find that message and got worried..plus their customer service number was busy! glad you got through; appreciate the heads up

still seems pretty weird to randomly be doing maintenance in the middle of the evening..

np. this is the first place i checked to see if anything was going on, i figured others might check here too.

Thank you for squashing my fears. I tried resetting log-in information and was told the system could not find me. I tried ringing and got a busy signal a lot and then finally got through and was told the wait time was more than ten minutes. Though I relaxed a little when I heard that since it must mean a lot of people are freaking out.

Kinda hard to believe, since they usually announce this kind of stuff WELL in advance... this is anything but planned maintenance

Great I need to pay $20 on my CC tonight to avoid an over-credit-line fee and I have a feeling Chase ain't gonna waive it for their gross incompetence.

I was just over the limit since I was charged twice for a transaction and telephoned customer service to explain the situation. I was informed that they do not charge an over the limit fee.

I'm not sure about the over-the-limit fee, but phone reps will usually take rush payments (e.g. later-in-the-day same-day payments) for a $14.95 fee. If you ask nicely, they can apparently waive the rush payment fee once, too...

Just spoke with a rep and no more over-the-limit fees. Wow that's something I never expected--must be due to that new law.

Site is working again now.

same here

The Visa Signature and World Mastercard cards have never had an over-the-limit fee. Most banks are converting as many cards as they can to Signature and World since they charge higher merchant fees. Part of the gimmick of these cards is that the "credit limit" figure they give you is your revolving credit limit. But there is a higher, undisclosed, limit that they will approve charges for. They refer to this as "No Pre-Set Credit Limit."

Visa Signature No Pre-Set Credit Limit.
(Note that "No Pre-Set Credit Limit" is not the same as "No Credit Limit.")

Other types of credit cards may still have an over-the-limit fee.

I believe it did have something to do with the new law, because I remember reading it in one of the many terms and conditions I got after the law passed, and was pretty suprised. But i guess it makes sense. If they decide to let a transaction go through that puts you over the limit, why should they be able to charge you a fee?

Go to this page where they show all the available Cha-se Credit Cards.

Click on the blue "Pricing and Terms" link under each credit card.
If the credit card is available as both a Classic Visa and a Signature Visa, under Over-the-Limit fee it says "NONE for Signature; $35 for Classic." See. for example, the Southwest Airlines credit card and the United Explorer Card.

If the credit card is available as both a Visa and a Mastercard, it says "Up to $35." See, for example, the Freedom Card and the Slate Card.

If the credit card is available as only a Visa Signature Card or a World Mastercard, it doesn't mention the over-the-limit fee at all. See for example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or the United Mileage Plus Club Card.

Site Availability

Due to scheduled maintenance on Sunday, May 6, from 2 AM ET until around 4 AM: Account transfers and Chase QuickPaySM will be unavailable. Your account balances may not reflect all transactions you've made in the past 24 hours. You won't be able to access your accounts from your mobile browser, update your personal information or complete same-day transactions.

(Posted May 3)

When their online account management is offline for maintenance, they will usually waive the pay-by-phone fee, as long as you don't get bitchy and demanding.

Chase blows

I don't know if somebody replied it or not but when I logged on a day or two ago, it had a banner in the top stating that they will be doing site maintenance from such and such. So I guess they were telling people who noticed it

havent charged fees for phone payments since July. As for OL fee, that is on hiatus. New laws said we have to allow people to opt in to OL in order to charge fees. Since we dont have a system in place yet to opt in, there is no fee at this time, though it will remain a part of your agreement for future use.

hah and no. It wasnt SCHEDULED maintenance. Just maintenance
