Do existing Server account holders qualify for this offer (for a 2nd account, etc.)?

It works for me. The only I have had is paying in-person. The cashiers look at the card and cannot tell that it is an AMEX. The new cards solve this problem by putting AMEX on the front of the card and a name on the bottom. They look like regular AMEX CC and prepaid.

Just buy an Amazon gift card from those funds - so much easier - can be done from the comfort of your home without having to deal with cashiers who have no clue on how to process anything new.

Even though they are not traded on PlasticJungle et al, that's not the case! OMax was just selling Amazon gift cards 90c/$ last month. If you shop a lot on Amazon, you should have a Citi Forward for the 5% (worth 6.67 with TY Premier & flights), so Amazon gift cards are worth at most 95c/$.
Serve was an interesting concept, but from skimming through the data, people got shut down even if the loaded up just the $100/day & $250/month limit. That's not even considering whether, or how, they unloaded their Serve.
This deal is good for a one-time perk if you're new to Serve, but as a continuous use account, I doubt you can do much with it due to the low monthly limits and high risks of shut-down.

Original source for this link? There was another thread where the source was an ad on eBay. Given denial of $25 gift card w/o email on their prepaid card a source site/ad would help in case of denial.

You can start making similar cases for everything. Don't spend the serve at restaurant where you can get 5% during the Discover/Chase promotion period. Or don't buy gas with it since there is a card that gives you 5%. And don't do groceries/drugs - since there is another card that gives you 5%. And the list goes on.

is this a nationwide or a targeted deal? I didn't get any $ from the last AMEX prepaid deal.

Read my post. Found a better deal than this for only a $25 spend. Not targeted. At least not the link at the site I found. Has to be a new Serve account.

Last time Serve had a promo, I had to send them emails reminding to credit me for the account opening. They conveniently forgot to do that and there was zero communication from them in response. It was very impersonal.

I signed up to try it out and funded with a debit card. The FAQ for the promotion says that the $25 credit is instant when the first $50 purchase is made. Now I just have to wait to get the card.

thanks OP. waiting for card to come in the mail. will spend $50 on a B&M gift card or Amazon. this is a great free $25 with minimal effort. hope AMEX holds up their end of the bargain.

Update : Today I got a new serve card and activated. I logged into my account and 25$ available in my account. I did not do any purchases yet but got $25.

Update: I have received the $25 after my $50 purchase posted.
- I funded with $51 from a debit card in case there was a $1 hold for my purchase. - Made a $50 purchase. (Turns out there was no $1 hold) - Then waited for the charge to post - A few days later, the payment posted along with the $25 credit at the same time - Now I'll make a $26 purchase to clear the account.
Thanks, OP!

Can balance be withdrawn in some way or needs to be spent using the card ?

Yes, Serve allows for 1 free ATM withdrawal each month and charges $2.00 for each additional that month. However, you'll still be responsible for any ATM operator surcharges, so you should find a free one or a very low cost one if that will be your method.

No, this is the first Serve.com card for me, so I didn't need to worry about promo qualification

You can transfer the amount to your bank account with out fee.

The best strategy is to use any prepaid cards on items where you earn the lowest from you other cards. For me (with 6% AMEX for groceries, Forward, etc.) any prepaid cards are used where I would otherwise use my 2% Fidelity.

Now that I do have $25 added, the option to withdraw seems missing! Under Transaction History it shows the waiting circular dots graphic constantly https://secure.serve.com/App_Themes/Default/Images/loading-icon.... -- where I expect withdraw option to be from last time, not sure if any other place now or am overlooking the obvious elsewhere. Anyone else have this ?
Edit:
Figured out. It needed a strange mindless action to click - and + under MyAccount on right side for add/withdraw button to appear magically. had tried in Chrome and Firefox both latest. Anyhow, works now

So the process to get the $25 is -
Sign up for an account Link it to a credit/debit card Wait in the mail to get a serve card Use the serve card to spend $50 Wait 7 days to get $25 credit
Is that right?

It can be linked to a bank account or loaded with a money pack as well. If you use the link in my post the load is only $25 not $50.

I made my purchase with the serve card over the weekend and rec. the 25 dollar credit today. I had a previous account that got closed a few months back. I might have just closed it because of the anticipated fees.

I got an email saying they are waiving the fee for funding with a credit card, but says that you might be charged a cash advance fee from your credit card company. Anyone try this yet?

They were supposed to start charge credit card fees the first of the year and keep pushing it back. Now to 2013.

"There are no fees to set up a scheduled transaction. Serve is also waiving credit card and debit card load fees until March 15, 2013. Please note that your credit card company may charge you a cash advance fee for loading money from your credit card. Please check with your credit card issuer for details."

Got an email asking for a copy of my license and proof of my social. Considering this is a prepaid card I am not prepared to send anyone a copy of my license. Weird they did not ask for that before they withdrew the money from my account.

Depends on issuer, but most do not code as cash. Citi has been the bad apple for most. You can ask your issuer to disable cash advance or set a cash cap of $0. Some may oblige.
