I had to cancel my Discover card recently after 10 years because they kept screwing around with my CashBack. Everything they promise eroded quickly, then I'd call and threaten to leave, and they'd find me some "new" card that gave me what I wanted... then it would erode... and I'd call... you get the picture.
IMHO they are dishonest as they claim CashBack as their differentiating factor but they don't tell you when things are going to change so you have to pay attention to realize that you are only getting 0.01% CashBack. At least Chase, Citi, PNC, etc. give 1% on everything, period.
They also used to offer double bonuses if you cashed in for gift cards but not anymore.

Worked for me, although I got an error when clicking on the link here. Once I signed on, it was right on my home page. Of course, it's still only 2%. Chase Freedom has 5% at groceries this quarter. I guess it is worth it for purchases on 7/1 if you do not have a normal 2% card.

They also used to offer double bonuses if you cashed in for gift cards but not anymore. First, it's 0.25% on the first $3k. Not great, but not 0.01%. I agree it is not worth using the card on stuff other than the 5% categories. And if you don't know when the 5% promos start and end you only have yourself to blame. I know that I know exactly when to start using my Discover card, and when to switch back to something else.
Also the double bonuses for gift cards is a rare promotion.
