Offer not available to existing Chase checking customers, those with fiduciary accounts, those whose accounts have been closed within 90 days or with a negative balance. To receive the bonus: 1) open a new Chase Total CheckingSM account, which is subject to approval; 2) deposit $100 or more within 60 days of account opening; AND 3) have your direct deposit made to this account within 60 days of account opening. Your opening deposit cannot be money held by Chase or its affiliates, nor can the bonus be used as the opening deposit. Your direct deposit needs to be an electronic deposit of your paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your employer or the government. After we receive your first direct deposit, we'll deposit the bonus in your new account within 10 business days. You can only receive one checking account-related bonus per calendar year. Bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT.

Is this offer also limited to zip codes in areas with brick and mortar Chase branches? (Like the $200 bonus)

megatard (Sep. 09, 2012 @ 6:32a) |

It is not the offer, it is Chase itself. The zip code you live in must be one that they service.

Is that a new Bank: "Chate"?

Sorry, that was a typo. It should have been Chase.

Thanks for the update, I thought it was a deal for HSBC.

"Chaste" would have gotten more laughs from my irony box...

If we ACH from another institution, would it qualify for the direct deposit requirement?

It has in the past. Look at similar Chase checking bonus threads.

Which ZIP code works? I've tried several NJ, PA, NY zips and no one is worked for me for this offer same as for previous one... Don't want to loose $300 again... Please help!

OH does. I printed out my offer and will try to open in branch since I am only 40 mins away. Since I have credit cards from Chase, they know my mailing address and there is no way for me to get past the zip code issue.

I did an ACH from Penfed two weeks ago and it worked.

ACH from Ally counts, or has in the past, but what really chafes me is that Chase refuses to reveal your account number, so you can't set up the ACH! It isn't displayed online and CS won't tell you. You have to wait for a statement to close and then you can see it printed on the statement. Asses. They want you to set up direct deposit but won't tell you what your account number is.

You can send a secure message asking them and they will tell you. It worked for me and my mom.

Any bonuses for Chase savings? Already have a checking and was thinking about setting up a savings account with them.

Does Chase do a hard pull for opening a checking account with them?

Im looking for saving account coupon or premier checking since I already have this. any idea on where to get them?

In previous threads it has been reported that Chase does a hard pull for its checking products.

They did not do a hard pull for me. I have credit cards with them so maybe that makes a difference.

I've been churning this bonus for a few years now, and have always gotten only a soft pull. Never had a hard pull from Chase for opening a checking account, at least online.

I've not gotten hard pulls even with B&M. The only thing is if somehow obtaining a $200 coupon for a nominal amount would be worth it.

I think "Chate" is the new term for how one feels when it's gone a bit past hate.

Short for "I hate you as much as I hate Chase" ... as in "I Chate you. I really, really Chate you."

IIRC, you need to wait 90 days after closing an account to reopen another

Chate is funny. They have me on their "forever blacklist" (for deciding after balance-trasfer-o-rama 5 years ago that I'm somehow a threat to them) but blinked and allowed opening a checking account under last promo of $200. Then, as I was figuring out how to keep up with DD requirements / $1500 average daily balance to avoid fees, they closed it (loss prevention dept). Thanks, Chate, for solving it for me!

After receiving the bonus, does anyone know the easiest way to cancel the checking account? Can it be done through the secure online messaging, or is a phone call required?

I've always just transferred out all my money and then called them. Not sure if secure messaging would work for Chase.

Do make sure you keep your account open for at least 6 months though. Otherwise they may deduct the bonus from your final account balance when you close it.

I did this when then had the $200 bonus. Oh and - don't fund the initial with a Chase CC as it counts as a cash advance. $10 fee + daily interest charges. I did because I was out of the country, big mistake.

You can cancel through the secure online messaging after 6 month , and balance must be 50 $ or below.

If you want to cancel account for any reason, be prepared to spend at least an hour or 2 in the branch defending your choice against a "personal banker." They are trained to retain accounts with 50 reasons why you should stay even if it costs you lots of bucks. Worse than must call us to cancel your automatic subscription. Hassled me even when explaining that as Chief Financial Economist for US Congress retired, I helped write banking laws and had worked alongside their head regulator in DC (true.)

The following form can be used for any bank. Just fill it in and mail it to the bank. This has always worked for me.

Please accept this form as a formal request to close my account. Please send a check for
the remaining balance from my account(s), including interest accrued (if applicable), to
me at my address on file.

The actual name of the bank is "Cheat" but they intentionally misspelled to cheat the customers and hope they don't find out. Hence the name, Chate!

Alternatively, similar to the the past tense of eat being ate, Cheat <-> Chate

BTW... Is it just me being paranoid or did Chase send me a subliminal message in my logout screen? If they did, I say right back at ya, Chase, and thanks for the thou$ands of free money!!! lol

The offer is one per calendar year. Does the clock start when you open the account, or when you get the bonus?

Better to get a 200$ coupon for new acct. on eBay for $10. You net 190.

Good to know, thanks! Besides I put I gave Chase my e-mail over 12 hours ago and still waiting for the coupon. Does it normally take them that long?

I don't have a good record for closing accounts in person either. That is why I cancelled my account via secure message center on their site this week after the early termination fee period expired for a similar account opening bonus.

sorry for reviving a old topic but I opened a new chase checking account with a coupon code for the 200$ bonus and two weeks ago on the 1st I made a 200$ deposit and the banker said i'd have it my the 14th and this morning they said it was processed and will be credited into my account on the 20th of this month but do they normally taking 2 weeks just to do a ach deposit on their end?

Data Point: ACH push from Ally to Chase still satisfies DD requirement and triggers bonus.

Coupon code 4518675098861153 expires 8/15 for $200 bonus and requires direct deposit.
