You have to call (800)794-4097 to get the 70,000 point offer. I just called, but got the wait 10 business days to receive letter in mail if approved.

This is better than the current 50,000 point offer floating on the web (if you call that number, they will only offer you 50,000 points).

So the Marriott points can only be used for Marriott hotels?

What is the value of those points? Can they be redeemed for Wal*Mart gift cards or any other item that is easily valued?

Looking here ( https://www.skymall.com/mr/subdept.htm?c=2100001&perpg=12&ps=lD&... ) it seems you can cash out points for a limited number of stores, but they are worth less than 1/2 cent each. 70k points will get you $300 in Home Depot gift cards.

If you apply for the 50k online, then call or secure message Chase, you can get the bonus bumped to 70k.
Also, I think this comes with 1 free category 1-4 night certificate.

That would be the worst use of points.

According to this: http://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/morerew.mi 70000 pts = 25,000 united miles. Pretty weak.

If you make a reservation through Marriott's website, during the process you will get the offer with an additional $75 cash.

Possibly - but it still provides a baseline for a worst case scenario. If there are better uses, that's fine, and I will factor that in, but the worst case scenario is something I think about, because I'm not really a frequent traveler

Are you saying you reapply once a year? Or keep the same card. I got the card last year, but I'd love to churn it...

Small correction, it is a free category 1 to 5 on each card anniversary when an annual fee is assessed.

thank you, you're right. The 1-4 certificate is for the first year. It's Cat 1-5 for each additional year after the first year (which includes 11 JW Mariott, 9 Autograph collection, and 7 AC properties)
