I opened AMEX card about 2 months back and need to meet $1000 minimum spend requirements for bonus eligibility.

I have penfed card for Fuel - 5%
Groceries etc - Citibank - 5%
Restaurants - Chase - 5%

I don't have any major expenses apart from the above categories and hence thinking of buying Costco GCs. Just wondering if there are any better suggestions or ways to buy cheap gift cards or any other category

OP might post a new thread asking how to meet "minimum use" of said condoms .

You're paying way too much for your condoms. Who's your condom guy?

It's a sad time when you can't go through $500 worth of condoms before they expire...

Which AMEX card is it? Are there any bonus categories?

amazonpayments. You can't beat that!

don't use your other credit cards. The signup bonus is a lot better than 5% CB
unless you got a $50 signup bonus.

AMEX Premier Rewards. 50K Membership Points bonus

I'll probably use it for Costco in that case. I don't get more than 1% CashBack anyhow rather than sacrificing 5% bonus. Thanks

Cell phone bill? electric bill? internet bill? Even if you need to pay a month in advance, why not?

I had the same dilemma, but did managed to reach the 1000 spent. The 200 Visa GC deal at Staples helped. Also I got a lot of FAR deals - MacAfee @ Staple, HDMI Cables @ Newegg, etc.
I also prepaid internet Comcast bills. Paying for car insurance was a big chunk.

The AMEX has 3% for grocery stores, so I planned to get Grocery store GC to reach the 1000 but ended up not needing to.

Withdraw cash from an automated teller machine; that will be $1000 quick.

Buy a ton of Beanie Babies on eBay.

I wish State Farm would accept AMEX...

Buy a troy oz of Au.

I can't believe no one has mentioned H&B, yet. You guys are slipping!

Is this thread serious? Really? I hate to be the guy bashing OP, but this information is EVERYWHERE on the internet. Use your favorite search engine and you'll find a ton of results ranging from articles, to blog posts, to forum threads like this one.

Are you really serious. Point me to on solution. I have posted this after researching on the net and finally ended up buying Costco since I didn't get anything reasonable. All I wanted was not to waste my 5% CashBack bonus to complete my spending requirements on AMEX.

Tried buying AMEX Gift cards with 2% Cash Back but the AMEX CSR mentioned that these are not eligible
Thought of buying Gift cards from Plastic Jungle etc, but read a few threads about the related frauds
I could have paid my inernet/cell phone bill, but I have a INK account which gives 5% CashBack

Now - seriously, can you give me some pointers rather than just pointing to one vast internet. I really don't see why do you care to post if you don't have anything useful to post

Most people just buy $1000 worth of ice cream.

I am just amazed when ppl apply for a credit cards without thinking about spending req. and seriously for measly $1k in spending, give me a break. Even my wife (who BTW are not into these type of deals) just manufactured $2k of spending on her way home from office today.

Some people did give good advice :

- Buy items that are FAR
- Kroger GCs purchase and earn fuel points

This question gets asked at least one/month around here. Why not try the search feature?

would you be kind enough to point to any one such thread. Searched 3 combinations and everyone returns this thread only. "Minimum spend", "meet spend requirement", "spend requirement AMEX"

try using other search terms. example: be more creative when using search terms. for instance, when I use google/bing to search for porn, instead of "mature" I use "milf"

I dunno when I google "meet spend requirement" it returns 15 results on the first page that answer this question.

^^ based on the Original poster replies, you still haven't pointed him or her to the one and only one method!
