Just got this targeted offer, in the mail yesterday for 5x rewards, for 6 months on groceries, drug stores and gas. I got a similar offer to 3x two months ago. Don't know anything about the Wells Fargo rewards program, but the offers says "cash rewards, gift cards, and brand name merchandise". I fear the Citi TYP devaluation on Cash Back but will keep you informed when I know more.

Update: Max annual accrual of point is 120,000, which would be about $1200
Redemption rate at $250 is 25,000 points, but for amounts less than this the rate is worse, $100 is 13,000 points.

Keep your eyes open for this offer.

At least four flavors of this card exist, they all share 5% Every Day Purchases for 6 month:

NOTE: YOU WILL NOT QUALIFY FOR THE BONUS REWARDS IF YOU ALREADY HAVE OR HAVE HAD A CREDIT CARD OF ANY KIND WITH WELLS FARGO.

I keep getting an offer for 3x rewards and 10k points. I couldn't even tell if 10k points equals $100, but from limited information I had, people were saying that the reward structure isn't all that great. Needless to say, I didn't jump on this. Have AMEX Blue which gives me 6x on "groceries"

Even with limits in place, this is still easy money for anyone that gets the offer.

I have the same offer online when I login to my Wells Fargo account so look there too. I have not received an offer via snail mail or email.

there is also a 3x offer going around

AFAIK the accrual limit is for calendar year, so now's a good time to apply for this one - you'd get 2013 and 2014 limits to play with

Looks like the general offer is now 5x rewards and open to everyone. Probably will be for a limited time.

$1200 isn't bad....i'd go through that in a month.

Wells froze my account for spending more than my credit limit in a month by paying off my bill when the charge hit and then spending some more. The very friendly and knowledgeable CSR said it was frozen because thats not how you are supposed to use a credit card. You try and hit $20k in spending in 6months on 2k limit, cancelled the second I cash out my rewards.

I don't see the same limit on the Cash Back Card as there is on the Rewards Card.

Where are these limits posted?  All I am seeing is unlimited?

Good catch, guys. Where the T&Cs for the Rewards card states 120k annual point cap, the same numbered note for Cash_back card states "There are no annual cash reward maximums."

It's #5 in the T&Cs Summary section.

  • Program eligibility, the ability to earn cash rewards, and/or the ability to redeem cash rewards are each restricted to Cardholders whose Account(s) linked to the Program is/are open, current, and not in default or delinquent, as applicable to their Account(s), as of the time of their then-current monthly billing statement date and so long as the Program has not been terminated or canceled pursuant to these Rules and Conditions.
  • Cardholders will earn a one percent (1%) cash reward for every one dollar ($1.00) in net purchases (purchases minus returns/credits) made on their Account, rounded to the nearest one cent ($0.01).
  • The following purchases/transactions do not earn cash rewards: cash advances of any kind, balance transfers, SUPERCHECKSTM, casino gaming chips, wire transfer, off-track wager, lottery ticket transactions, or bets or wagers transmitted over the Internet. Any interest or fees posted to a linked Account, including but not limited to returned payment fees, late fees, and monthly or annual fees do not earn cash rewards.
  • There are no annual cash reward maximums.
  • Cash rewards will not expire on this Program.
  • Changes to this Program: Wells Fargo reserves the right to amend, cancel, or temporarily suspend the Program, in whole or in part, or change any of the Program Rules and Conditions, at any time for any or no reason, including without limitation, in the event of fraud, abuse of Program privileges or violation of the Program Rules and Conditions, as determined in Our sole discretion (examples of Program violations include any attempt to sell, exchange or transfer cash rewards or any instrument exchangeable for cash rewards), without notice to You, which may result in the forfeiture of cash rewards not yet redeemed.

The bold is theirs - I just signed up under the 3% and called today - no luck getting upgraded to the 5% - pissed

Anyone try getting approved for both the Cash Back and the Rewards cards?

I think the confusion stems from the blending of offers over time. We have differing T&Cs for the default CashBack program, the 3X intro, the 3x-5x targeted promo and now this new one which says its unlimited.

I called a few times to get clarity this morning. Had to call more than once bcos different reps had a different level of understanding (nonexistent to don't really know but didn't mind reading the published T&C aloud).

It maybe safe to say that since the webpage clearly says "Take advantage of UNLIMITED cash rewards with no complicated calculations and no expiration dates" this newest offer is uncapped.

Every CC company will give themselves and out for changing the terms of the program. But the goods ones do so gradually with notice. Not abruptly as we might fear.

agree with KYBOSH. I randomly got the targeted offer yesterday. It definitely mentioned the cap, and was definitely targeted. Today is an almost identical non-targeted offer that seems to have no cap.

For Wells Fargo RewardsŪ Card:
Annual Point Cap Maximums: Cardholders may earn a maximum of 120,000 points per calendar year.

I just received an offer for a Wells Fargo "Home Rebate Card." 3% on gas, grocery, and drugstores for first 6 months, 1% rebate for everything else. Rebates are applied to mortgage balances with a $25 minimum application at a time.

I'm a bit hurt that WF is only offering me 3% (for just six months) even though I have a mortgage with them. The recycle bin gets the offer.

Can anyone with WF experience offer advice. No instant approval, called to see about a decision sooner and she said I would have to wait 3-5 days for someone to review. Should I call back and ask again, or is this how they work?

I'd be a bit hurt that they're offering you a targeted promotion that is worse than the promotion they're offering to everyone...

Argh, another bank requiring a visit to the branch to open a damn account.  They just don't hand out free money the way they used to.

ETA: Hey mods, I give up.  The new "Add Quote" feature in full featured reply seems to be broken.

dbond, can you open a savings account online to become a customer and then apply for the card?

Everyone, and pwm112, any reports or data points on common WF credit limits?

I got $3k CL - in branch while opening a checking account - I have good income.  That said, I was not prepared to go on the mini app I did and I am carrying some hefty balances.

Wells is old school - I am not sure I would expect huge CLs.  Also if you want to call and up you CL - that will cost you another hard inquiry - I passed on that.

Wells Fargo does not do instant approvals (online) for anyone according to the rep I spoke with. Call the number in the email and check your status.

If you do the second inquiry on the same day it may or may not be lumped in by the CRA resulting in only one pull on your report. YMMV though.

Wells did instant approval from me - in branch

Yeah I was referring to online sorry. Someone has to review it.

Bing - I got $10K a few years ago.

I was instantly approved online yesterday.

Just applied on the phone (I don't have a checking account, so no online application for me). Going to call and check on the status of the application. Phone rep was nice, said they would mail either the card or explanation in 7-10 days. I can't wait that long to find out.

instant online approval for 8K CL. Have opened several cards already this year.

I got instant approval online despite a bunch of recent inquiries...but only for $2500.

Deferred when applied on mon. Called today was approved for 8k. I have a PMA account.

Not sure if there is any good bonus offers going on for checking or savings accounts, but you do need to have a relationship.

Which report is WF pulling for you guys?

Thanks for hunting down the distinction.  I have the rewards.  Just applied for the Cash Back card. Can't wait to see what Wells offers.  I've been in withdrawls since BCP got capped.

They didn't hesitate to shut down their PPC on us.  It may be fun while it lasts.

Cash Back Card vs. Rewards Card - what's the difference if cashing out with $ (statement credits or bank deposits)?  I believe both are credit cards (as opposed to charge cards).  Rewards can get you the "Visa Signature."
