Hmmm. We have no business relationship with them. We should all go review them on Yelp immediately to speak for the victims.

... a $500 fine that will be deducted from your deposit for every negative review of USGH placed on any internet site by anyone in your party and/or attending your wedding or event.

How can the underlined part be enforceable? How can I be held responsible for the actions of another individual? IANAL.

Thanks, this is awesome, gave me a good laugh!

LOL I know where I *won't* be getting married...

The hotel will soon learn a policy like that will encourage tons of fake negative reviews that they'll never be able to get removed.

just moved my wedding to this hotel.

Seems like a fake story to me. How does the hotel even collect on the "fine?"

rated:
Done.

It is so unfair. I see hotel getting 5 star reviews ;P

I stayed here the other night with one of my lady friends. The concierge has all the best escort services on speed dial.

They had an amazing selection of videos. My favorite were the she-male and cuckold ones.

The vibrating bed was heavenly, although wasn't sure if it worked or if it was the L train going by.

We did not go with the optional D-room suite, but were invited by another couple down the hallway after investigating some screams when getting some pringles out of the vending machine in the hall. One word: AMAZING. The d-suite were pretty good too.

I liked the smell of the bleach on the linoleum floors. Sort of reminded me of being forced to clean bathrooms for my mistress.

All-in-all, it was a great 3 hour stay. Definitely want to come again!

  They keep your deposit.

This is a terrible policy. My only suggestion is - basically stop going there. Reviews are a dime a dozen---it does guide some folks. But if no one stays at the property in the next several months. This awful property will go bankrupt. The hotel cannot possibly police every single website review across all websites - international included. Done.

rated:
Good for them that they can put that into their contracts and couples are still willing to sign it. More power to them.

If it was me I would be walking, but it's hard to go against the bride and mother in law.

rated:
How much could they possibly collect in fines vs. what little goodwill they have left. That Business Insider article will kill them. Not to mention the NY Post as well.

What about after the deposit has been returned?

This sort of policy is probably a bluff, it's not clear that they ever followed through on trying to collect $500.

Doesn't make it any less stupid though.

There are emails from fall of last year where they threatened to do precisely that to some of the people that stayed, after bad reviews showed up.

Yes, they threatened to charge the fine, but did they actually follow through?

Great idea! I will call them up and tell them if they comp me a room for a few days, I will give a positive review on Yelp.

That depends on what you mean by "following through." The BI article includes a screenshot of a Yelp review from a user who says they attempted to charge him $500 last year.

ETA: nevermind, this was already discussed.

Lots of snarky management responses to the bad reviews on Tripadvisor too.  These innkeepers remind me of some of the way too defensive characters on that Kitchen Nightmares show.  How dare someone criticize them, huh?

I have been reading the owner responses to the reviews on tripadvisor... just wow... the guy does not understand the concept of customer service. everyone  of the bad reviews was the guests fault... on this one in particular a lady was scared of his large dog and he responds:

Yes, there is a sweet dog that comes out in the back yard occasionally, however we have never seen anyone freak out so bad. We all felt HORRIBLE. (Her fit was so bad we thought there had to be something else causing it - she never had let on that she had such fear of anything). I DID apologize to her & her husband profusely. We were all so shocked at how she acted that we were shaken by it.

..... like she was the problem.

We should make sure we cover tripadvisor as well, where a lot of travelers look for hotel recommendations.

  614 one-star reviews at 7:54pm PST. That's about 60 an hour.

As jayk indicated, what is stopping a bad review from showing up once the deposit has been accounted for after the wedding contract has been fulfilled and bill is settled?

Where can I leave a bad review about Yelp site? They lack the ability to sort reviews by "funny", that took away a significant part of monumental laugh I had.

If a one-star review is accompanied with a respectful rebuttal and explanation of what happened from the owner that's a big plus for the business.

This is very high on my list of criteria in determining top quality businesses to patronize.

That is of course until businesses get wiser and figure out that in the mix of all of their fake 5 star reviews they need to include a fake complaint with 2 stars and a very respectful response to fake complaint in order to fool systems like mine.

But you can usually tell apart the fakes from the real ones. Or better yet you can really tell when one is real.
