AMEX is the best. I recently filed 3 claims.
1. Extended warrenty. A printer died after 18 months. Called AMEX and got credit that equals the purchase price after one week. No paperwork needed. No hassle at all.
2. Return protection. My wife bought a skirt at $70, and the price dropped to $29 after 1 month. The merchant didn't let her return or do price match. I mailed it to AMEX and got credit after a month.
3. Dispute. I bought an item from a website and the item turned out to be a bogus one. Still in process. |

Dang, I wish I found this thread earlier! I tried to file an extended warranty claim with CitiBank MC on a dead jumpdrive and I got schooled on their 1-year manufacturer warranty limit. Worse, I just bought a $400 Toro mower on my Citi Diamond. Sure, I got price protection for 90 days but the mower has a 2-year warranty.
On the other hand, I have an extended warranty claim for a digital camera with AMEX blue. AMEX said the process takes up to 3 weeks before I am notified of their decision to repair or reimburse. Man, that is a long time to wait! I originally paid $250 and the repair estimate is $160. Total loss? Stay tuned.
Finally, I noticed AMEX CSR was friendly and knowledgable. Citibank transferred me to MC-ASSIST and they were both cranky. Anyways, AMEX goes back in my wallet... again... for now.  |

I just checked my account and I was credited $250! Gotta love AMEX blue. All of my other poseur cards go directly to my shoebox; do not pass GO, do not get any of my business. |

I've had awesome experiences with AMEX everytime I have put in a claim:
1.) Extended warranty - 3 separate claims - two printers and one DVD burner. Each time, I was given a full refund after the original manufacturer's warranty and I wasn't asked to submit or prove the items were broken.
2.) Return protection - Returned a $100 cable modem after my cable company gave me one. The only negative was that I had to pay for return shipping.
3.) Price protection - AMEX refunded $250 after the price of my new Sony HDTV dropped. They would only honor the price if it was in a printed advertisement, but fortunately the cheaper price was in a Cirucit City circular.
I can't believe that I am a profitable customer for AMEX, but after so many good experiences, it's the only card I use, unless the merchant doesn't accept AMEX. |

I went snorkling in December, and accidently left my new cell phone in the pocket of my shorts. Called the up the AMEX Purchase Protection Plan, took all my information over the phone, and they credited my account for the full price of the phone a week later.  |

What cards still offer price protection? AMEX honored the price protection thing for iPhones, but does every AMEX card have it? It seems like only Citi mentions it. I haven't seen it mentioned with the AMEX Costco or AMEX Blue cards. Do they have it, too? Thanks. |

Thanks. You know what I JUST got off the phone with American Express about any form of a "price protection plan"... (after researching it on the net, and seeing people posting that AMEX was HAPPILY crediting people the difference for iPhone price drop). I'm looking to buy a new Sony Ericsson cell phone, just came out, online. The price is DEFINITELY going to drop. I wanted to be able to buy the phone now, but in ~90 days, get a credit for the difference. The CSR looked pretty thoroughly after I explained what I was looking for, and said "the most recent contextual example I can give is Apple dropping the price of their phone after release, and AMEX paying out the difference". He looked and looked, and didn't see ANYTHING, so thinks they may have done away with it. -- Think they got hit hard by Apple customers? Anyway... are there any no-fees cards I can do this with? I'm probably just looking to open, buy, pay off, and close the account... wish the AMEX Clear offered it explicitly... seems like a nice card. |
