Hi,

Does anybody know if the 0% forever offer is still available?

From those that have taken advantage of it what are your experiences?

For the last 2+ years I have surfed from 0%, and my current 0% expire at the end of the year. So, I'm looking for the 0% credit cards.

Somebody once told me that credit card surfing will hurt your credit rating, but I have not experienced any problems. Refinanced my mortgage several months with no problem.

I got a 0% balance transfer for life offer today from Providian Platinum Visa.

0% APR on Balance Transfers. 3% ($50 max) fee, but waived if transfer is made within 90 days of obtaining card.
9.99% APR on purchases.
2 Purchases per month. No minimum purchase.
$0 Annual fee.
$0 Minimum finance charge.
Payments are applied to lowest APR balance first (i.e. balance transfer), of course.

Seems like a good deal to me. Anyone else?

Does anyone know whether it will be possible to make $0.01 Paypal charges to this card by sending a $0.01 payment to myself or another person?

Do the Paypal charges appear on the card as "purchases"?

What is the minimum monthly payment ?

Thanks, Eric

I tried called SockMonkey's Providian offer and supplying the product #. It was not enough; they wanted a reservation number to talk at all. I was calling to ascertain the payment schedule.

Anybody know a way around this ?

..The CSR was willing to transfer me to another CSR, in order to request a app be sent out to me; I didn't attempt this route..

Just buy 0.49 of gasoline twice in a visit to the gas station once every 30 days.

I don't have it in front of me right now, but I believe the minimum monthly payment was 2.5%.

When I get home, I'll get the reservation number and enter it into the website to see if it's tied to my name or information. If it's not, I'll post it.

Any luck with the reservation number Sockmonkey? How about just the format of the number if it's tied to your info. TIA

The reservation number was tied to my info.

I'll give the format, though I'm not sure how it would help:

so are there any CONFIRMED "closings" on the 0% for life offer BESIDES people who were solicited in the mail?? If so, what were the EXACT steps you took to get the card??

Got my 0% for life from Discover by calling and asking for any available special offers for BTs. My card was eligible, the wife's wasn't. Will call again next month for my wife's card, they said they would have a 'new offer' for her.

I maxed mine(less a penny)with BTs. Only need to make minimum payments and ONE charge a month beginning in Feb to extend the offer on a monthly basis indefinitely. Will take me several years to actually pay it off assuming Discover doesn't change the terms. Should be interesting to see just how long I can milk this.

Justalil,

Were there any BT fees associated with your BT?

How much are the minimum payments (if you made purchases of $0.01)?

NO BT fees!

Min finance fee is 50 cents/month beginning in Mar. Discover CSR said minimum I could charge was a dollar, so that will be what I do for next few years. According to my spreadsheet, it will be at least Jul 2006 before I pay more than the 50 cent/month min and at that time I will have paid about half the balance off. The loan cost doesn't exceed a dollar a month until Jul 2008, when balance is well less than a third. The effective interest rate of paying the finance charges does not actually exceed 1%/yr until after Jul 2011, when balance is ~ one fifth the original. This appears to be very cost effective loan for the foreseeable future and the I-bonds I have to cover this loan will earn many times the finance costs. It really does 'pay to Discover'.

I can guarantee you they will change the terms of this offer long before 2011, probably even beforr 2006... ;(

I guarantee nothing - assume nothing. I have I-bonds to cover all the 0% debt just accumulating interest. Whether they change the terms or not I'm coming out way ahead on this deal and have nothing to lose except more free money.

It's not exactly logical, but Discover has given me hundreds of dollars to keep me as a customer over the years, not sure why they would purposely antagonize me by changing terms on this offer.
