Does Citibank allow such feature? If yes, how? I'd like to know. Thanks.

I think they way it worked for me was when I created my online profile, they linked all my cards to it. I guess by my SSN or whatever. .............

OK, I did this earlier in the day, and now am beginning to wonder if this would impact the credit report in anyway?

I asked the CSR, and transferring credit lines would not generate a credit check from the bureaus.

My question though is, would the changing credit lines have some kind of affect? If you look at the credit reports, they mention amongst other things, the credit limit for each of your accounts.

I don't see why would credit line transfer affect your credit score. If you credit line is higher you have a smaller chance of having revolving balance over 50% or going over the credit limit.

MBNA has the easiest procedure for transfering credit line. I have 4 cards with them. Most of the time they can do it instantly, if not withing a few hours. Btw, one time I had a balance on one of MBNA card and got a 0% APR offer on anther MBNA card and they allowed me to consolidate the card with the balance in to the card that had a 0% apr, so essentialy I transferred a balance with no BT fee and got 0% apr. I was surprised that they allowed it, but they did.

Bank One (aka First USA) allows credit line transfer, (have 2 accounts with them).

Citibank allows credit line transfer(I have 2 accounts with them), but they can not do it instantly, they ask you to call back withing 24 hours. Also beware that you may not be able to transfer credit line from AT&T Universtal card to other citi cards.

I was able to transfer from AT&T to CitiDiamond. So, that is possible.

I plan to use my 0% offer on CitiDiamond, lets see if they would allow me to use the extended credit line to do the BT. Dont see how they would prevent it, unless they take away my existing 0% offer from Diamond.

Thanks OP for the post.

I am a college student and I am currently carry 3 x $700 cards. I can't buy anything if it costs $701 because of the credit limit. After I read this post, I gave it a try. Call my Citi Platium Select Student card and tell the to reallocate my credit limit on another card (this is my local bank card issued by Citibank). They did that for me, no question ask. I asked them if they will check my credit report, the CSR said no, they won't have to because it already approved under the old card.

Now I can enjoy the coming Thanksgiving with all the security features the Platium has.

It doesn't require same SSN. I manage my wife's citi (non ATT) cards & mine under the same web logon. We are not even authorized for each other's cards. All you have to do is go to add cards (or whatever its called). We also manage our AMEX cards under the same logon. These are the only two web interfaces I know of that allow this.

Interesting (if probably coincidental) correlation between issuers that allow CL consolidation, and those that allow managing multiple accounts under same web logonid....

is the following scenario possible:
1] transfer entire c/l from at&t card to another citi card, effectively closing the at&t card
2] apply for at&t card again with 0% intro rate at a later date
3] transfer partial limit from citi card back to at&t card and use newly available c/l at 0% rate

Are you sure about the 3rd YES? I thought Citibank doesn't allow you to BT from one Citibank card to another Citibank card. Does Citi to Universal not fall under this restriction although both are serviced by Citibank?

it would not be a balance transfer. instead i wanted to transfer available credit from one card to another to make use of the 0% intro rate

Sorry I misunderstood the "partial limit" in step 3

True, Citi wont allow BT from one citi card to another, (Universal is considered a citi card). But the question was just about transferring the CL from the Citi card to the Universal card, therefore, the answer is YES.

dont confuse BT, which is a balance transfer, with transferring a credit limit.

Transferring a balance means transferring money that is owed and outstanding. Transferring the credit limit is just shifting the available, unused credit line.

Does anyone have any experience with Bank of America? Will they allow reallocation of credit limits between their credit cards?

MBNA is the best in this respect. They consolidate my three cards into one card with a line of $75,000 over the phone. Bank One has a limit of $35,000 so I lost some credit line when I consolidate. FYI.

Best wishes.

Hi Zender: It was just my case when I "consolidated" three 1st USA cards over the phone (I lost $25,000 in my credit line with the consolidation). They claimed that they needed "higher-up" approval to get the line above $35,000, I did not need that much credit anyway.

Best wishes.

Heh as soon as those 25K bonus MR points post on the AMEX Green Preferred I'm going to get AMEX to reallocate the entire line over to the *wood card...

In the meantime I'll enjoy the MR points AND *wood points lol
