A couple of months ago, I had no problem moving most of the credit line from an AT&T card to a Citi card. When I called, I didn't make a point of saying it was an AT&T card. I just called the Citi number and said I wanted to reallocate the credit limit between two accounts.
Yeah, we did the same thing, but the CSR came back and told us that it was an AT&T card and she couldn't do it. The destination card was Associated Bank. Who knows? Maybe that made a difference.
I've seen several posts where people got different results than I did when trying to reallocate the same cards with Citi. I guess it just means it's always worth another try. I saw in the QS where this Wednesday someone successfully reallocated something I was unable to a few weeks ago. So Monday, I'm calling again.
Yeah, we did the same thing, but the CSR came back and told us that it was an AT&T card and she couldn't do it. The destination card was Associated Bank.
Ahh, that could be it. Associated Bank is a separate bank, even though Citi is managing the credit card for them.
So it looks like the best strategy for Citi is to get the generic business and not mess around with a co-branded AT&T card. My 0% offers expire the middle of October, so I'm going to pay them off on Oct 1 to beat my statement close dates. Once the payments post I'll ask to reallocate and close the Premier Pass to the Biz w/ TYN since I am pretty sure I get hit with an annual fee if I don't. Hopefully all of the cards will report at $0 by the end of October so I can then put in a few apps and roll everything. Hopefully they will give me at least $10K on the new card, letting me roll it into a single $41K card nicely hidden from my credit report.
Citi is giving me a hell of a time with my reall attempts...
I've got a total of 5 citi cards: Associated, DE, HR, a "regular M/C" (as described by rep...was a Macy's store charge, but that was closed for inactivity and replaced with this), and a "Student Visa".
My goal was to try to move the "reg M/C" (20k CL) over to Associated or DE (both have 0/12 BT offers) to maximize my BT offers.
Upon calling Associated, CSR stated that Associated is "serviced" by Citi (as we all know) but is not a "Citi card", therefore realls aren't possible.
She then offered to see if I could reall any of my other cards to the DE. She said the "student" could be reall'd to the DE, but she would have to "check on 1 thing". A second later she came back with "unfortunately you have a 0% BT offer on the DE that doesn't expire until 4/09, so if you want, you can consolidate after that date. I figured as much. She was unable to "see" the "reg M/C", and suggested I call that card directly.
I had already called them once and got a pretty firm "no" on realls. I called again and basically got the same answer. "We would be more than happy to close the card for you, but we cannot move your CL to any other card." I asked if they had a retention dept. (hoping I might "work" them) and was told that they handle everything...activation, closing, etc.
Looking like they are making it hard...unless you want to go per ---> biz. Not an option for me yet...no biz cards...
Love to hear from anyone with any other ideas though!
NOTE: May be of interest to someone...
I tried to accomplish my reall of this funky "reg M/C" again by trying a Citi Business CS number. They had no access and transferred me to the same CS number I spoke to twice today...CSR referred to it as a "prism card" and "converted retail card".
CSR I was transfered to was real cool, so I got some info. Apparently, this "portfolio" of cards is somewhat new and are separate from Citi's other cards. They are converted store charge cards that are still maintained by Citi's store charge "department"...CSR mentioned his center handled the Sears portfolio as well. He mentioned my card could not be converted and CL cannot be transferred in any way. One VERY interesting thing he noted: Any purchase made over $99 receives 0% interest for 3 months. Any purchase over $299 receives 0% for 6 months! Weird huh? Never heard of such a thing on a "major" card...only store cards! I'm sure plenty of FWers would find this feature profitable... I personally would just like to reall it...
Associated believes they can't do transfers from Citi cards; they're wrong. Jackcrawfish realled to it from two separate Citi cards, and I managed it from Driver's Edge. TBD whether I can manage from Home Repairs. Try calling the line on the back of the other cards, not AssBanks

I agree...she probably won't make that mistake again!
The CSR I spoke to seemed pretty sharp...as noted, she quickly stated that realls to the Ass card are a big no-no (any card, including DE or HR). Also noted above was her "attentiveness" in checking for existing BT offers on the DE I asked her about reallocating another card to. I tend to think you can always get lucky and find someone that will do it....
I really just wanted to reall that funky converted retail card so I'd have some more BT money...but I don't think even a "rookie" Ass CSR can help with that...
I called BofA recently to activate a re-issued card (previous card expired). The CSR noticed my multiple BofA accounts with almost all zero balance, and offered a 1.99% balxfer with a 3% fee, but with a $99 fee cap, while combining my credit lines. After 15 minutes of credit increase requests on the cards and then reallocating into a single card, I had a $67,000 line on one card - which I then balxfer'd $65,000 to payoff all but a token amount on my HELOC. With the cap, the balxfer fee was 0.15%. I'll be saving about $120/month for the next 9 months of lower interest. Woo-hoo!
I tried to consolidate my two Citi business cards (same company name...new one with a 0%), but it didn't work (twice in retention dept). One of the specialists in the retention told me today that they have a new rule to prevent a consolidation with a new card with 0%. He didn't even realize this until very recently (maybe by today...because he tried to do it and ask me to hold for a long time to research). According to him, he had done the same thing several times in August...but not now.
Does anyone have it go through recently? I have done a personal card in early September at retention with no problem (it is about the same time I made the first attempt in business retention).

Nope, I've tried several times to consolidate between Citibiz cards (at 0%) recently and have been unsuccessful. They also won't let me consolidate the biz credit over to a non-0% professional card. So I'm left with a useless 50k Citibiz card at this point (useless for AOR purposes). Since I'm apparently at max exposure with other Citi Cards, I think the only option is to close the account(s) in the hopes of getting decent credit lines on new 0% cards.
I'm coming up on payback time with Citi Business, Premier Pass Business and Professional. I was going to try to go with the AT&T Business and reallocate the other three but it does not look like that will work based on experience here. I've only got a $1000 plain old citi personal Visa kept alive for account age, so no personal credit to move to business anyway.
Is my best bet to cancel all three to free up the exposure limits and hope they give me good lines on new applications?
Regarding CITI's new policy -- does anyone know if it's still possible to reallocate or consolidate between two cards if BOTH have 0% APR BT offer on identical terms (e.g., 12 months, 3% uncapped fee)?
I agree with the idea of closing some biz cards...I have a 40k card that I cant move credit from and then recently got approved for a 1500 dollar card...not much use...

I have two CitiBusiness cards (Platinum Select and PremierPass). Both are 12 months, 0% APR, no BT fee. The 12 months ends at different times for the two cards (PS 11/08, PP 4/09), but Citi would not let me reallocate between them no matter which way the allocation was going. I was trying to consolidate to the PremierPass card since it last longer and was denied several times. I even asked if I could consolidate the Premierpass into the Platinum Select and was not allowed. I got such a low CL on the PP that it really wasn't useful as a balance transfer card.
That said, it can't hurt to call and try yourself.

Has anyone tried this tactic with a Citi supervisor? Request a CLI on the target card equal to what you would have reallocated from the source card. In exchange, offer to lower the CL on the source card by the same amount. Might cost you a hard, but could be worth it.
Has anyone reallocated or consolidated a Citi personal to a Citi Biz with a 0% in the past month? I have been completely shut out from doing this in any manner with my 60K worth of personal cards-Cash Returns/DPR/Dividend- to my sad new 4K Biz line. The Biz retentions dept doesn't even want to talk to me regarding my new account, attempts by Biz CSRs have not gone through, personal CSR/retentions tell me to talk to Biz.... biz says can only do CL moves and not consolidations from personal, and CL move can't get processed cause of 0%.

I've got a Citi AAdvantage card and want to stop paying the annual fee and I've had the card for over 15 years. Should I open another Citi card first before transferng the credit line or do I call in to CS and ask for my card to be opened as another account? I don't care about the 0% aprs or any BTs at this time. Also, if i open another citi card, will it say I was a member from back when i opened my first citi card or will the new one say opened 2008?

You don't want to "open" it as another account. You want to change the type of card, that's easy, you can even get another AAdvantage card, just without the annual fee. Usually Citi will keep the information for the original card's date, not the new one.

In my experience, they don't keep it going the other way.
That said, I agree, there's no need to open a new account, as you can simply convert your existing one. If you're actually interested in being able to earn AAdvantage points, you can switch it to the bronze card.

Here's hoping your HELOC still remains available to you to roll the balance onto after your promotional APR expires. Otherwise, your interest expense will be ridiculous with that amount at credit card rates. I would push to eliminate as much of that debt as possible in the interest-free period.

Geoworld said: AMEX CSR made a reallocation and she said timming was great because they will no longer reallocate after 10.04.2008 I just called AMEX and was told that credit line reallocation and card consolidation are not possible even via phone. However, after being persistent in a firm but polite way, she did a reallocation and the system accepted it.
It appears that this feature is being phased out, regardless of whether the exact date is 10/04.
If you go to the AMEX website and click 'by email' under 'contact us', select your account #, email subject drop down select 'balance transfers/line of credit' the options drop down has a selection 'reallocate line of credit'. Just for kicks and giggles I sent one off asking to reallocate my lines. They'll get back to me within 24 hours!
Tried several times to get Citi personal lines transferred to a recent Associated Bank card. The cards are incompatible, according the CSRs, for transfer. One stated that even if he tried, it wouldn't go through, as it was coded that way in the system. Anyone have recent luck moving Citi lines to Associated?
FYI, I currently have a balance at 0% on the Associated card, but thought I had a shot at reallocation since the offer has since disappeared from my account online (for new transfers). The CSRs didn't mention an offer as the reason why they couldn't reallocate.

I've 3 BOA cards now with the latest being 0%APR on Platinum for 7k approved. I have one more Platinum for 15k limit and MBNA for 8k since 2003. What is the best way to reallocate to maximize the 0% offer?
Shall i reallocate old cards into new one leaving small CL's on old cards? or Shall i consolidate all 3 into the new one and closing the other 2?

TIA.Ultimately it's your decision...
Might I suggest typing in double quotes "bank of america" in the Search This Topic at the top of this page? An alternate search for BOA will also yield much wisdom... many datapoints...
Does anyone know if it's a problem to reallocate with BOA if it's a different brand of card? Like can you move credit from a BOA AMEX to a BOA MC ? Is that ok/possible?
