I didn't go to college, I went to San Jose State.
But seriously folks... I did attend a semester or two at SJSU, but dropped out pretty quickly and have never returned. At the time (mid 70's) I was pulling in very good money. I stayed in the biz until about 6 years ago. Had a year or so when I only worked 90 minutes per day, at full time compensation, seldom worked more than 5 hours per day. Not a shred of take home work. When I left I was making "mad" money, great bennies, worked about 25 hours a week, 3 weeks a month, 9 months a year, great perks (1st class seats, tons o' swag).
Got burned out and tired of the ego BS and left, did nothing for a few years and then got into real estate. Not making the same amount of money, but not working too terribly hard either. I'm basically a very, very lazy person. And I'm comfortable with that.
I don't care how many degrees you have, or how much you earn, I can find more silly chores to fill a day better than any of you! |

Four years and three jobs later, absolutely hate what I do and am looking for something new. However, am reluctant to go back to school (already 26) and do not want to take a drastic paycut. >>
"already" 26??? That's still a very young age. Think abt what u want to do and how you can achieve that (thru school or not) so that you don't have to regret later on like me when i'm already 33. i wished i had thot about my career vs my interest a lot earlier... |

I guess we're all supposed to know what "the biz" means. Your SJSU-dropout level of intelligence is obvious. |

Cal State Fullerton, Marketing Degree.
I was recruited during my college education and was about 2 semesters away from graduating and they started me at $32,000 and later raised my annual salary to $35,000. Since then I have finished my schooling and have changed jobs.
Now I am a caretaker and studying to become a registered nurse (RN). But I am still doing contract work for other corporations needing some marketing help and making about $15-20 per hour (part-time) depending on my workload.
For those thinking about finishing HS and not going to college, dont do it! The workplace is extremely competitive and you need to have the bare minimum which at this time seems like a standard college degree (BS, BA, etc). |

I was already working during college as a bank teller for Washington Mutual Bank. So here I am about 3 months post graduation, still looking to jump to either another position in WaMu, or to another bank. Including monthly bonus (depending on the profit our individual bank makes), I pull in about 22-23,000 a year. I also get decent medical and dental. And a pretty good 401K. They match up to 3% of pay. All in all, I'd say I make about 24-25 a year.
Here's hoping I find something better....soon.
Oh, forgot... BS in Finance, Jan. 2004 |

I graduated in May 02 with a BS in Comp Sci from Colorado School of Mines (Yes, I too love Illegal Pete's in Boulder...I lived there my senior year with some friends from CU). I got a job for a defense contractor making $51k starting in Aug 02. I've only received small raises since then, but am expecting my first promotion this summer a raise of ~$10k. I do a lot of travelling and put in a decent amount of overtime which helps add to my income a little. The benefits are all pretty good. |

Graduated from a PA state univeristy in dec 2001,majored in criminal justice, but always been a computer guy. was out of work for around 4 months (post 9-11) before I landed a 1 year contract doing tech support for $24/hr for Merck. After that contract ended, one of Merck's subisidaries offered me a full time networking job for mid 50's plus bennies (2 weeks vac, 50% 401k matching, etc). Really hated it there, and took an offer from Lockheed Martin 3 months later for aro0und the same pay/bennies and left. Been here about 6 months now, hopefully i'll get a raise soon
