"Thank you for your interest in MERRILL+ The official card launch begins April 16, 2004. Please come back to card.ml.com, to apply at that time."
I guess you can press the STOP button to stop the redirecting and apply for it right now.
Employees of ML already received the card. This card is good for those who want the name "Merrill Lynch" on their CC for free. Other benefits that this card offers look good too.
Card looks good to m. I have a CMA card. The CMA card is excellent. It is a debit card but the rewards are worth more. For example 6500 points = 100.00 in rewards. Other programs are 10,000 points per 100.00. Also with the CMA card you can get gas at Shell stations (gift cards)(
The Merrill card looks good to me because they have good partners in the program.
Considering just "Air Rewards"(and not how much flexibility it might require to redeem them), how does this card stack up against the Capital One Miles card ?
Cards seem somewhat similar, but this has no annual fee and Merrill+ benefits.

It was 6500pts=$100, but they changed it to 10,000pts=$100 last april?? I just checked the catalog and it says 10,000pts=$100 rewards for the signature visa card.

it's a super robust rewards card- the more you spend the more rewards you earn. just for being a member- you get a full tank of free gas every hertz rental. you get 2-1 british airways travel deals, free upgrade to a suite at the ritz carlton, there's lots more too.
if you spend 20k you get a free air travel companion voucher, plus you are able to fly anywhere in the usa for up to $400, no black out dates, and you earn the frequent flyer miles for that trip, you also get a free night at the ritz carlton- all for the same 20k spend.
free card- you do not have to be a merrill client, and interest rate is 5.9%, high limits- up to 250k unsecured. there's tons more stuff, if you spend more than 50k - you get more perks etc. etc.

Does anyone know if this card has one time card number capability, since it is a MBNA card?
wouldnt that question be a little premature seeing as how no one here can even APPLY for the card, let alone use it and report back , for 2 more weeks???

The card is through MBNA, but based on the number and demographics of Merrill's clients, it is a really well thought out card, many, many perks, etc. Credit limits very high- up to 250k! If you have another MBNA card, and get this card, MBNA will look at you as one person and your credit limit of your other MBNA cards (if you have any) will drop to add this one. Your total credit will go up.
the best part of the card- is that it works like a frequent flyer program- the more you spend, the more perks you get- the more free upgrades, also, there is no cap to the points that you can get.

hah I doubt they'd actually give anybody a 250K line out the door right now.
I think that would be hilarious if they actually gave someone the 250K and they decided to take advantage of that whole 0% introductory APR heh. Just the monthly interest from putting it into a savings account would be a few thousand dollars heh.

It was just a little joke towards the AMEX Black Card... I'll gladly stick to that AMEX. Annual fee though, maybe I can work with them to reduce the $2500 fee, be a cheapie in a richie card, lol.
Anyway, I need a VISA card anyway, AMEX isn't accepted everywhere, need to maximize rewards. This will fit the bill and with MBNA, they have a history of higher limits than most issuers.
wonder why they pushed it back? maybe bc its a monday, so they have someone on hand in case something goes wrong the first few days with their app system?
This card looks very interesting. Seems that you can get (3) free nights at Ritz Carlton once you reach 50K in charges in a given year. This is on top of the points you earn toward other rewards. The card is definitely aimed at the high income Merrill crowd.

The card looks pretty interesting. I am not even sure who there competition is in the 1% reward club card with all the "extra" benefits they provide.
The comment about them being MBNA. If I already have an MBNA card - then my credit limit on current MBNA card will be reduced? Can you transfer credit limits between two cards?
$50,000 = 10 months of Charter One $50,000 = 5 months of Charter One with 2 addresses $50,000 = 4 months of Charter One with 3 addresses
Never stayed at a Ritz Carlton before. Do they ding you with newspaper and Godiva chocolate surcharges? Ron Lieber should be "neturalized" if he writes an article on this card.

Ritz Carlton rack rates are $300+ per night so you get at least approx. $1000 value after reaching 50,000 points which I can easily accomplish in 2 or 3 months depending on CL and pre-pay. If the regular rewards are decent then this could make for a nice card.

Mephisto, I'm curious... What is your method of racking up that many charges in such a short time? Just CharterOne GC's? Or something else?

Im actually a Merrill Employee and received the card about a month ago. The perks seem nice.
MBNA did reduce my credit limit on my other MBNA card to issue this card. I actually called them afterwords and asked them to close all my old accounts out and apply the credit line to the +card. They had no problems doing so. Now I have a 50k line. Not to bad

Actually, in regards to the Concierge Services... It is an in house service run by Merrill Lynch.
I actually used it the first day I received the card to get driving directions to the closest Outback Steakhouse. Had no problems and it worked great.
I was able to apply for this card on April 2nd... When I clicked on the link in this thread it took me to application page and I was quickly redirected to another page which said "opens 16th" or something. I refreashed the page and clicked stopped re-direction so I was able to fill the application... Anyway, they denied me and this is the first card I have been denied in the last 2 years. I think it was because I exceeded half of my available credit on my other cards... I was going to pay them off immediately but they still didn't look at my excellent credit history.
I guess what I am saying is, before you apply for ML, just make sure you pay off all your credit cards and make sure your experian credit report shows zero balances on all your credit cards...
Anyway, saying again I applied for this card earlier this morning. Seems like a good one for those AMEX enthusiasts who do not have a VISA/MC card yet - cause sometimes, I need to leave home with it, but take VISA along too

Just noticed that all airline benefits are for "new bookings made through December 31, 2004, for travel completed by March 31, 2005".
Considering that this is a new card this is probably just a T&C they wrote it "just in case". However, this means that since you are limited to 1 companion ticket per year in the lowest tier you would only get one ever as you have to book it before the end of this year.

Good article in this mornings WSJ Section D1, "A New Contender for Your Wallet"-Merrill Jumps into Card War With No-Fee Rewards Offer, But Does it Beat Platinum?" Hope somebody has online subscription and can cut and paste.--z
Incidentally, it's written by our old friend Ron Lieber. He has another article on the same page about FF, "The Shifting Rules of Flying Free". I'll post the alert on the appropriate thread--z
