Sounds similar to ING and others when it comes to the rate, but the nice part about this is that you can access it with its own checks or an ATM card, PLUS they rebate ATM fees!

$5000 acct min. to get the stated interest rate,
$1500 balance to avoid fees.
0.95% interest if balance is 0-$5000

Monthly Service Charge $15. $0 if minimum balance is maintained
Other Features Interest compounded daily, credited monthly
ATM card access
Reimbursements on non-MetLife Bank ATM surcharges (up to $5 per statement cycle)
Free first order of checks
Limited monthly check writing access (limit three checks)

It is rare to get a MMA with checks that pays this much with a balance this low.
Have they had a good long rate history or is this a teaser?

alert mods

per the OP in the FAQ linked above, theyve been fairly high for almost a year now, so doesnt look like a teaser

this bank looks good...
but i have a few questions:

does anyone know if there is a minimum balance?
and if there's a closing fee? if the rate drops (they have a promo code for you when u sign up), i'd move back to my old bank....

alert mods

you need at least $5000 kept in deposit to get the interest rate

alert mods

other than that, is there a minimum?

The minimums for metlife seem high. Why not just use ING or Virtualbank, both which have no minimums, and offer 2.00% and 2.15% APR respectively?

Is check writing really that important when you could 1) get either a free checking account anywhere and ACH in and out, or 2) get Presidential 2.75% APR checking with direct deposit?

They also offer mortgages and guarantee to beat anybody's price by $100 or pay you $500.

No mention of online access on their website. If they had ACH pull/push like ING then it would be a good deal (with check writing plus ATM).

alert mods

is there FDIC?

alert mods

If their bank is anything like dealing with their dental insurance, I would stay away at all costs!

just called the csr, and he told me you can do ACH out from their website for free 6 a months. But doesn't have any feature to do ACH in. Only way to send money in is through ACH (from another bank) or by sending checks by mail.

According to the CSR I just spoke with, the $50 promotion ended on July 31.
