So I suppose the move now is to link EmigrantDirect as an external account for CapitalOne. Has anyone done this successfully yet? |

I just logged into my CapOne High Yield Savings account, and the interest rate (as of 3/9/2005) is only 2.71%, not 2.90%. What's up?

It takes a day or two from when the webpage updates with a new higher rate to when the rate is actually reported in your online account. Trust me, I've been checking throughout all their recent upticks. |

those who have both cap one & emig. can someone point out the pros/cons of both. I know Cap One lets you link more then one checking acct. Is there any other benefit of Cap one besides that. I really hate Emig direct interface, especailly when it doesn't show that transfer are pending. How does Cap One compare in terms of interface, ease of use? |

ING seems to allow some people to use routing and account number to make a Bill Pay from a website, but perhaps that is because thats not always ACH based. Not really sure why that can work ? |

They use the same software, but I think the Capital One interface is worse such as the transfer pages (you have to enter some information in twice due to a crappy interface).

I don't think that capone is worse. You just need to know how to get to the right place. Also, transfer between capone and other bank accounts is pretty fast.

I dont care much about how nice the sites are as long as they pay you the highest rates. Looks like ING and Cap 1 are bumping things higher. I would expect more moves as Greenspan raises rates further. So far the predictions about lowered rates arent happening. CapOne can use your money to fund some of the juicy creditcard programs they have

ING wont link an account without sending in a check drawn against the respective account, so its somewhat challenging to link a savings account. |

Cap One started out as a Credit Card company, so truly they are using that to fund this. A little history:
Capital One was actually the Bank Card business of Signet Bank years ago. When Signet was bought out by First Union the Bank Card operations were split out. The guys running it at the time were actually consultants and they came into Signet one day and essentially took over the business. It is a well run company with very good management. |

My withdrawal from ING to Capital One just went through and my capital one account is not linked to ING. So not sure why you had this problem. CapOne HYS bumped rates another 15 bips to 3.05% APY. The pace is likely to slow as the Fed will move next Tuesday and the current very healthy competion between ED and CapOne has taken overnight rates 25-45 bips above the Fed rate. Economists still estimate 3.50-3.75% Fed rates by yearend meaning higher rates will continue for some time. ING is still holding its breadth at 2.60% APY. HSBC has entered the HYS business with its own 2.75% APY account.
Aren't rate wars fun and profitable! |

It's astonishing how fast this rate ran up. Sure glad I didn't bother with hassle of switching to emigrant! |
