Capital One Savings Account (4.80%) - now with better transfers Archived From: Finance

Capital one savings rate jumped again today to 3.05%. Amazing how it increases that fast ). Almost every week in the last month or so. Long live the competetion.

I consider it slow. And still a way negative considering inflation and Dollar depreciation. 6+% would be a justified rate. But... thanks to China!

1.can I link emigrantdirct as an external account of capital one?
2.Does capitalone pull a hard inquiry?

What is ING directs Routing number so I can link the 2 accts. I called but they won't give it to me.

Find the direct deposit form in your ING account. You should be able to find the routing number. But I don't think you can link these 2 accts

I did and I transfered money from ING to Capital one as well.

So, now the rate is the same for HYS and Costco MM, but only the first can be linked to external accounts, correct?

My understanding is that the Costco rate has been 0.05% higher than the standard rate, at least over the past few months. At the time of this posting, the standard rate is 3.10% and the Costco rate is 3.15%. For more information, see http://www.capitalone.com/investments/offers/costco.

Money market >$100 balance pays 3.1% at Cap One. Not bad if you're looking for check writing/ATM.

Money Market Account Transaction Limitations for costco MMA
You must deposit at least $5,000 to open this account.
No more than a maximum of six withdrawals in any calendar month are permitted, and only three of the six withdrawals may be by check, debit card or similar negotiable order. Please note, these restrictions do not apply to withdrawals made at an automatic teller machine (ATM).

it seems like opening a money market account makes even more sense with the APY the same as savings.

Yes, that is true. However, the Costco MMA account does offer check-writing privileges, and the HYS account does not. So, you can use the voided checks and routing information to setup transfers through other banks. The Costco MMA account will accept deposit and withdrawal ACH transactions.

I was looking for an account with unlimited number of linked external accounts to avoid dormant account fees. I guess I can just leave a quarter in each and pull a penny once a year from HSBC (they charge $3 for push).
