I haven't had a similar experience with MBNA, so don't know if I'd be much help on that. However, it would help if you provided more details about the EXACT sequence of events that preceded this. In particular, how did the "transferred in/out" process work?
Edit: I see your situation has been elaborated here , so I'll address it there... |

I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with using MBNA exclusively for the BillPay service. I always use the BillPay to pay off my other credit cards and then pay off the balance completely when it comes time to pay off the MBNA. Basically, they don't make a penny off me and I get to use the extra time to float the balances in Emigrant Direct. I have not had any problems with this so far, but I am afraid that they will close my card or lower my CL when it comes time to review my account.
Does anyone have any experiences to share? |

Are any issuers taking adverse actions in the absence of high utilization or lots of balance transfers? For example, is a mere high number of inquiries (say 6-8) going to get your lines reduced or closed? |

stupid providian reduced my limit from 1800 down to 1500 after I paid off the balance of 1700 bucks. I had this balance for a year so they got their moneys worth along with my annual fee of 75 dollars. i still dont know why they did it on top of that I was late 2 years ago due to mailing late one time out of the 4 years and it was in the begining of the card. they raised rates to 29.99 from 15%. so yes they got their moneys worth a lot during my 1700 balance. |

I charge a lot and run my balances to 95-99% of the credit limit in many months. I always pay it down before the statement date to less than 40%. Has anyone found this to be a problem? I am not getting the kind of auto C/L increases others seem to be getting. |

Well, the thread title says "due to usage patterns" so I'll talk about Providian. I signed up for Providian when I was 17 years old. They gave me a credit limit of $2500. I had the capital one visa at the time with a $300 limit which I carried around with me, leaving the providian for big online purchases only. After a few years, I stopped using the Providian card because I had the American Airlines Mastercard as well as the CashBack discover card. Well, I hadn't kept up with updating my address whenever I moved so I got the notification letter too late. Because I hadn't used the card in over a year, Providian closed my account. I did a quick check on my credit report, and it shows as me having requested the closing of my account which I never did. *shrug* I guess they didn't want me as a customer. |

AMEX lower my credit limit from $6900 to $1200 (barely above my current balance) when it comes to their yearly review. They said it was because I have too many open accounts (about 20 ) and carry too high balance and credit usage being too high. (currently I max out three CC with 0% BT offer, totalling 26k, accumulated available credit it about 50K) . I think they calculate Debt/credit ratio based on each card rather than total credit, am I right? |

zhaohuipan said:(currently I max out three CC with 0% BT offer, totalling 26k, accumulated available credit it about 50K)That's the issue right there: maxing out the cards, and using more than half of your available credit overall.
Just for comparison: I have $150K showing in utilization at the moment (much more isn't showing), and yet they are happy to keep my Cash Rebate line at $60K. The difference is that nothing is utilized over 90%, and overall utilization is closer to 15%. FWIW. I think they calculate Debt/credit ratio based on each card rather than total credit, am I right?Generally card issuers look at both.
Thanks for posting. Happily, they didn't close your accounts...I bet if you pay down those balances, you can ask them to restore your line size and they may do it. |

Your total Credit line is amushing. I only have 3 credit cards with high credit line, and I took the BT chance for all of them. While other cards' credit line is relatively low. That's why utilization/available ratio stays high. My 0% BT expires soon, so I will pay it off and ask for credit limit increase after that. |

Juniper just closed my Frontier card (not used in a while, 21.5K CL) and US Airways card after a review that determined 'balances with other creditors too high' and 'increasing too fast'. I just got the US Airways card 2 weeks ago (10K CL) and used it only once for a small purchase! Nothing changed on my credit report significantly since I applied.
My 'high' balances are: 2K Citi (4.3K CL), 6K Citi (12K CL), 6K Citi/AT&T (14K CL), 7K BofA (8K CL), $11699 Chase (13K CL), $10699 Chase/Sony (12K CL), 11.5K Discover (24K CL), 20K Affinity FCU (25K CL). Some MBNA cards may occasionally close with high balances. |

Citibank began raising the APR on my Platinum Select Cash Back card. It sat unused for nearly a year. When I finally called them about it, they said it was across the board and if I declined the next rate hike, my account would be closed on the expiration date of my card. |

Update: I just called Juniper. Somehow, they said, only 32K debt showed on my report at the time of application. Affinity might have taken a while to post (20K), but I was sure that there rest was already on. I guess Citi also takes their time...
So, no, they said they would not open an account for someone who spent over 40K in a few weeks. Also, 12 of my accounts, according to them, were opened in the last six months, but it did not stop them from issuing the card. My wife's application was declined. Her report must have been showing about 73K of debt. |

I'll bet that your 3 accounts (7K BofA (8K CL), $11699 Chase (13K CL), $10699 Chase/Sony (12K CL)) that are close to or over 90% utilization probably played a role in your Juniper account closure. I would try to get those accounts to under 70% utilization ASAP as they have a great impact on your credit scores. |

All are below 90% utilization (you can do the simple math yourself).
Where does the magic number "70%" come from? |
