Just an FYI....
They were 2.5% in May, I asked the CSR about the history of this type of account and if it was in fact a teaser. She said no, and that they are consistently offering the highest interest rate on this type of account in the country.
Remember, just because it doesn't show up at Bankrate.com doesn't mean its not out there. Look at PenFed's great CD offers not too long ago, that never showed up at Bankrate and that was 1%+ than anything available at the time. |

I actually sent both FReD and Rapid Link Checking applications together. They called me this morning and told me that the amount I wrote on the application is smaller than the check was for. They also warned me that I have to put at least a dollar on the checking. Then they opened both accounts. They also confirmed that the disclosure regarding in-branch withdrawals only does not apply to telephone transfers between accounts, discussed in another disclosure.
I was pleasantly surprised by the low bureaucracy level. Feels like dealing with a CU |

Hey mbaker4096,
You posted this in another thread about 0% balance transfers here. The rest is indeed in a Superior Savings FReD account (which does BTW actually allow ACH debits/credits in spite of their vehement denials). I'll post something similar in the Superior Savings thread to keep from further derailing this one.
Can you post your experiences doing ACH in and out of the Superior FReD account? Which institutions are you using to initiate the ACH's? Are you doing it with the actual FReD account, or the linked free checking account? Please post details. I have ING, VirtualBank, Citibank, and Presidential accounts...
Thanks! |

Hey there, Gnat...
Yep, I've linked directly into my FReD account...did the initial ACH debit and credit from Capital One Savings last night and it went over without a hitch. I'll probably still open up a checking account so that I have a way to get funds out immediately if necessary -- BECU will give me full, immediate credit if I bring the check to a teller -- but I'll probably be able to use the ACH in/out to manage my accounts for the most part.
Used the ABA routing number printed on my savings account card (211170363) along with the account number printed therein for the transfer. Again, went through without a hitch.
Tonight, I have another $1500 ACHing from CapitalOne into Superior. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks mbaker4096. I don't have a CapOne account, and unfortunately it seems that both ING and VirtualBank require you to send a check from each account that you want to link for ACH's.
I guess I can connect the free checking account, but I'm curious how you were able to initiate the ACH from Capital One without first using a check to link the accounts. Does CapOne just not have this additional requirement? |

Nope...not a requirement. Give them a routing number and an account and they'll send two credits followed by two debits for the same amount. You then have a limited number of tries and a limited amount of time to tell them what the two amounts were and once you've done that, they'll link up the account. It's pretty flexible, IMHO.

Hmm, checked out the CapOne account, and it's not bad. 2.15% APR, no fees, no minimums. I'm gonna open an account there. Why not? Nothing to lose...
Thanks. |

So any guesses as to what will happen with the rate in 2005? I remember reading that the 3.04% APY was fixed until 1/1/2005. Is this a teaser rate?
Where will you move your money if Superior's rates fall in 2005? |

$25K will go to Presidential at 2.75%, rest will go to CapitalOne at 2.25%. |

Mark, I looked at Presidential. They require Direct Deposit for the 2.75% rate. How do you plan to fulfill the obligation ? (and do you know that it will work..) |

I have Presidential also. There was a thread where someone said they had a Presidential checking account open, never set up direct deposit, and nobody noticed for a whole year...
I think they recently started checking accounts though. In any case, I actually do use DD through them, so it's never been a problem for me. |

Every two weeks, I get paid via DD and $200 of it goes into my Presidential Account. Occasionally, I move the excess with the starter checks provided by Presidential or via ACH/EFT into other internet banking accounts as needed.
As Gnat mentioned, they appear to be flexible re: the Direct Deposit requirement, but 2.75% isn't a bad rate, so I'm not too annoyed that I'm not getting maximum benefit with every last cent earning the 3.04% APY at Superior. |

Hi mbaker,
I opened a CapitalOne savings account for the ACH ability you have described. Was finally able to set up links to my other accounts (superior savings, virtual bank, ING, presidential, and citibank are the primary ones I use).
Can you confirm that both ACH pushes and pulls work using CapitalOne's interface?
It seems like a pretty powerful way to move money around...the only real limitation is that you'll have to waste a little more time in transit because it will have to go through Cap1 as the intermediary. |

Yep, both work...I pushed $1800 over there a month or so ago, and just pulled $1000 back to my CapOne account on Monday.
Agreed, if you need the money *now* better to set up the checking account, transfer funds to checking and then use one of the 7 (*ouch*) starter checks they give you to withdraw.
Good luck! |

I mailed a 23K check to them on December 1 in their pre-paid postage envelope, to be deposited on my FReD account. It never went through. Called them a week ago and was told they'll search for it and call me back the next day. Never heard from them though. Called them again today and asked to call me before processing any large deposits. They can't add notes to accounts, but they can notify all clerks (all two of them?). I don't know how reliable this "system" is. Unfortunately, I do not know the check number and cannot put a stop order. |

I'm surprised no one updated this thread today, as the rate for the next six months was supposed to be announced. Their site says 3.00% APR/3.04% APY as of 01/01/05, but that's not necessarily the new rate.
Anyway, I just called them and the CSR said they'd know by the end of the day (they close at 5 PM EST). |

Awesome news. You just can't beat 3.04% APY.
Thanks EugeneV for doing the legwork. |
