Does anyone know what is the format to track option prices in Quicken? For example for the QQQ 36 november call, i tried - QQQKJ, QQQ360K.U, QQQKJ.X, it wont update the price. Anyone?

I tried Money on several occasions in the last 2 years. Never could get it to work for me. Recently tried Quicken and it just worked. That sold me right there.

in quicken, is there any way to attach/associate files with an entry (ie - scanned receipts)? is there any way to make detailed notes for a particular entry (currently it is limited length)? their mileage tracker isnt the very friendly - any better way of keeping track of mileage?

for anyone in the DC area, money 2004 won't work with Chevy Chase Bank...i had to upgrade

How do you evaluate your risk: MS Money store every bit of your financial data in web, if someone hack into MS site, will our data/our account at risk? Any way to turn that "feature" off while still keep online banking feature?

Quicken 2005 doesn't support Option quote download. Which is odd because you can use the 'Online Quotes' on the Investing Center page to get option quotes from Yahoo Finance.

I found out Quicken 2003's investment areas don't work right once Windows XP SP2 is installed. The portfolio would not display any positions. There are no fixes on Quicken's web site addressing SP2 issues, so I upgraded to Quicken 2005 Premier (Home & Business).

The upgrade fixed a bug with one of my accounts where Quicken would indicate there were pending transactions, but opening the account showed no pending transactions.

Transfers of shares between accounts are much easier - the original purchase date is kept for tax purposes.

When closing a position, the gain/loss is shown to the right. Didn't do this in 2003; not sure about 2004.

Seems to perform well, then again, I am running 2005 on a 3ghz P4 w/2gb of ram.

No to the first two questions. What didn't you like about the mileage tracker?

alert mods

* clunky interface and not well integrated w/ the rest of the product in terms of creating charts, etc...

* mileage tracker for me usually links to an event - a purchase at a store, a restaurant, etc... theres no way to do that.

* what would be cool is a distance calculator (of course must be linked to internet).

* limited length in description - sometimes you want detail notes on the event which currently is not possible.

thats all i can think of at the spur of the moment w/out looking at quicken.

Do either of these two programs allow the downloading/integration of copies of your credit reports from sites like Privacy Guard? Looking at my PG account, it doesn't look like there's a download option available. But if either MS or Intuit have thought of this, it might be a nice feature.

Money 2005 is a dog with fleas. Money 2003 worked well for me but I keep getting errors in 2005 that are Money's fault. It even pops up with a box saying something like "Balances are incorrect because of a way Money calculates blah blah blah... however the bank balance is correct blah blah, it should fix itself (NOT!)" THERE IS NOT EXCUSE FOR THAT.

I am going "back" to Quicken once I figure out how to convert Money 2005 to Quicken 2005.

axolotls said:Money 2005 is a dog with fleas...I tend to agree with the sentiment although I'm unsure about the anology. A dog with fleas is afterall still the same dog it was before and if loved before will surely be loved with fleas.

Money 2005, however, is so far removed from its predecessors to almost be unidentifable. In my case, having been a MS-Money user and advocate since Money '97, the distaste that I feel for this version borders on hatred.

I upgraded from Money 2004 Deluxe to Money 2005 Premium a few months ago and just last week lost all online access in both my main file as well as backups. I had to rebuild everything from scratch going back 3+ months. It was a nightmare that I don't wish on anybody else. MS-Money tech support was of absolutely NO help.

I'm attempting to update the Money FAQ referenced in the main FAQ with an update and support resources, but the FAQ has been archived. The mods have suggested creating new Money FAQ rather than unarchiving the old and that is what I intend to do.

For the time being, however, please register issues here until I get the new FAQ up.

I might just forgo an easy solution and export everything out of money as individual QIFs then rebuild the online access stuff and go with Quicken 2005.

I've been using Money 2005 for only three months and have had nothing but headaches.

I had a similar issue when I upgraded. It would not link my current accounts to BillPay and created new accounts with only my billpay transactions. I have also had problems with the online access/updates not working for several accounts. The only fix for this seems to be to delete the affected accounts and create a new account.

For what it is worth, Quicken 2005 has been very stable so far. (two months)

Does anyone know if MSM2004 supports having multiple logins to one financial institution?

My wife and I both have AMEX logins, and I can seem to only get access to one.

Just installed Quicken 2005 on a test machine, with backed up data. Upgrade from 2002.

So far,the conversion of data looks good, I'm going to play with it some more to make sure it all is operational before doing a production upgrade

The adventurous might want to try jGnash. This is Free/Open Source Software that works on any platform with java. I haven't used it, but it is patterned off of GnuCash, which I am a happy user of & which others have asked about (unfortunately, for all practical purposes, GnuCash is Linux/BSD-only, but will run under OS X and possibly even windows if you work at it). The advantages of using something like jGnash are:

  • It costs nothing (though you can usually get Money/Quicken FAR)
  • It is cross-platform
  • It will import QIFs
  • It uses double-entry accounting (though this might take some time getting used to)
  • No features expire
  • All upgrades will also be free & occur more frequently than once a year if needed.
  • Upgrades haven't broken import/export from old files from older versions

Diadvantages

  • Somewhat new (1.0 release was in 2002)
  • Missing some features which can be found in commercial software (some of which can be added, some of which won't be)

MSMoney doesn't accept multiple logins... PITA really. Does Quicken? Haven't migrated yet
