Again, doubt I'll get approved. Listed income of parents and myself for household, but since I'm not employed there may be some inconsistencies. Put "(former)" after my old position. Hope this doesn't hurt me too much.

I didn't fill in my name to see that before I asked the question. I applied for it. $100 for a credit inquiry hit is not so bad.
A "$100 Card Credit" - Is That a Gift Card value to ONLY Sony products?
OR Does it mean a $100 credit balance to your Sony Card?
Any ideas what the minimum 1st purchase must be?
PS. Card is BankOne, not Citi

Apply today to receive a $100 card credit to your card after your first purchase.**
**Offer subject to credit approval. Credit will be applied to your Sony Card account 8-12 weeks after your first purchase. Offer valid through December 31, 2004.
"card credit" sounds exactly like what is -$100 to your account in 8-12 weeks after 1st purchase. Doesn't say what min 1st purchase has to be.

I just thought I'd let you know that you are WRONG.
He is partially correct. Applying for multiple credit cards within a short period of time will result in inquiries being made which can be a basis for denying a loan/mortgage. Roughly 10% of your credit score is based on inquiries/new credit accounts etc.
my cousin has this card. uses it all the time and racks up the points to get major discounts on sony electronics. I'm planning to do the same. I've got plenty of budgeted monthly expenses I can throw at this card instead of some other card that doesn't give me anything back.
I hope I get in on this. I got denied for the AT&T card because they claimed I have too many recent credit inquiries. Do a search on my name on the last page after you click on the link. I think the actual reason At&T is denying me is because they don't want too many in on the deal.

and this is coming from someone who claims they have a 950 fico score in another thread
here's the facts from myfico.com:
Inquiries may or may not affect your FICO score. A FICO score takes into account only voluntary inquiries that result from your application for credit. The information about inquiries that can be factored into your FICO score includes:
Number of recently opened accounts, and proportion of accounts that are recently opened, by type of account. Number of recent credit inquiries. Time since recent account opening(s), by type of account. Time since credit inquiry(ies).
For many people, one additional credit inquiry (voluntary and initiated by an application for credit) may not affect their FICO score at all. For others, one additional inquiry would take less than 5 points off their FICO score.
Inquiries can have a greater impact, however, if you have few accounts or a short credit history. Large numbers of inquiries also mean greater risk: People with six inquiries or more on their credit reports are eight times more likely to declare bankruptcy than people with no inquiries on their reports.
Will my FICO score drop if I apply for new credit? If it does, it probably won't drop much. If you apply for several credit cards within a short period of time, multiple inquiries will appear on your report. Looking for new credit can equate with higher risk, but most credit scores are not affected by multiple inquiries from auto or mortgage lenders within a short period of time. Typically, these are treated as a single inquiry and will have little impact on the credit score.
If you have good credit and are NOT applying for a mortgage or loan who cares if your score drops?

From my experience do not do it for sony points. I was raking up sony points for the last 4 years when sony was with citibank. The payoff is 1% return if points are converted to cash. For. eg. 25000 points will give you $250. IMO go for other cards which give you more % return and collect that money somewhere like in ING so that you get more return. And over the years you will have more money collected to buy something for yourself.

Theres a scan advertisement of this card offer in my Sunday Paper.
Same offer as the website $100 for 1st purchase - doesnt state minimum... sounds too easy, but hey I'll take a shot.

I have the Sony card... and since don't buy anything Sony... My points are just there doing nothing... The only thing you can get is maybe Blockbuster gift cards, which are also worthless to me...
If I could do everything over, I would rather get a card in where I can get points for Gift cards, and buy anything I want, not just overpriced Sony products.
