I would like to voice my concern over this scam. The scam is they give you a free credit report but not the score. I know everyone knows this, but I think that is unethical. The only reason to see credit report is to report is if identiy theft or turned down for credit. You can already request those free if those happen to you. What you really need is to know your credit score to see how you will get a rate for a house/car/whatever. But this isn't included and they try to UPSELL you this when you go to the governmaent free site they actual try to sell you the score. I can see not offering it but no they don't just not offer they try to sell you another product. So they are using this just as a scam to sell credit scores to people that woudl have never bought them.; Insted of gov regulation to help the people this is just a way to try to have more visibility for their "product" of the score. |

Yeah, not so much buddy. The whole point of this initiative is to combat identity theft, and also inaccuracies in credit reports. It's not meant to give you your score, it's meant to help you correct incorrect items or other things which may be affecting your score. While I do think that access to credit reports should be unlimited and free, that's probably never going to happen.
Regardless, I can't access the site, nor have I been able to for months. Anyone else getting a 404? |

It's not a scam, it's a requirement (law) passed by Congress, genius. |

scam lol.. yeah i would say that having this passed is a good thing, cuz if stuff aint free people arent really going to worry about it. Pulled mine like 2 weeks ago and all looked good. IT was nice to see i dont have any unknown loans and such along with all info looked correct. |

So is this enough for people? I'm guessing a good strategy would be to pull a report every 4 months from a credit agency, so you get a free report every 4 months. Do people rely on more than this to check their credit? Do you guys pay those insanely high fees for credit reporting companies? TIA |

No, we check FW often and get in on the Freebies. I currently pull Experian everyday, free for a year |

There are lots of ostensibly for-pay membership services w/more frequent pulls, that, if you try to to cancel before trial period is up, will offer you cash/quasi-cash incentives to stay on. Also, occasionally particularly sweet offers come up... |

I know its stated that for the eastern states it starts September 1, but I just tried it today (New York) with Transunion and it gave me the free credit report. No credit score included just like everyone said before. |
