I have this card (AE Delta Gold) with no additional card/user on my account. I called this morning to see if I can get 2500 miles per addtional card but CSR said it is not available for my account. May be I will try again later. |

Interesting. However, I can't find 2500 per extra person mentioned anywhere on the Delta web site (OP link). Am I missing something?
I don't believe that it is mentioned at all. I found out about it from another board (not sure which now) and I verified it as true because they did offer it to me when I called to actvate the card. What I didn't know was that I could add up to five users (per the CSR). I didn't have to ask. She said, would you like to add more users to this account, you can add up to five and get 2500 miles per extra card. |

The OP is exactly right! I received the card today, called to activate, and the CSR mentioned the offer of 2500 miles per person I add. Interestingly, when I asked if I can add more than five people and still get 2500 miles per each of those people, her answer was yes. She even said I can add more people later and get miles, as far as I call them today. This is a little different from what OP posted, so I'll call them later to find out! Thanks OP! Great deal! |

I think 10 is the most people you can dd on a AMEX small business card, wonder about personal? |

parksh69, thanks for the additional info about more than 5 authorized users.
can you confirm that all you need is a name and a birthdate? back to the original question: does adding authorized users tie your credit reports to theirs, assuming you never give them the cards and/or just cut them up when they arrive to your billing address? |

YES it can tie your credit report to theirs! AMEX is know for reporting on authorized user's credit reports.
Credit card issuers that report additional "Authorized User" cards on the credit reports of additional cardholders
They DONT need the persons SSN to report on their credit report. Thats a common myth. And adding "imaginary" people or pets to obtain cards IS credit card fraud (in case some of you care).
PLEASE folks (I know theres a lot of college age readers here wanting free airline tix), dont just go copycat this deal and add people as authorized users bc you know their DOB to milk a deal! Understand what you are doing! |

Did some googling, and SIS is right. Read this link: http://www.faqfarm.com/Credit/Card/1949
So Authorized Users (AU) that I add will have the positive or negative activity that I do on this Delta AMEX card on their credit reports, affecting their credit score.
Does it work the other way around? If I add authorized users who have really bad credit, will that 'pull backwards' because they are an AU, and affect my credit score? My guess is that it won't. Any answers? |

Ok, I called the customer service number on the back of the card to add more people. The CSR wasn't sure what is the maximum number of people I can add getting the miles. She said she would leave a note under my account to make sure I get the miles for the additional people. At this point, however, you also need SSNs of the people you want to add. When activating the card, you don't need SSNs. Just names and DOB are all you need, as OP posted. |

Even though the person may never get the card, and you may cancel the authorized user card after getting the points, it can STILL remain on their report and YOU will never know (since you cant SEE their report.) THEN, say they file BK in the neat future, and the atty or self-help place assiting them with the BK papers sees this account, they will likely include this account in the BK. That CAN transfer onto your report.
The last thing IN THE WORLD you want to do is mix your credit report with friends or family members who are irresponsible. And you cant predict today who may be irresponsible tomorrow.

True. Always good to be wary of these issues.
However, what I've read is that even in the worst case scenario, it is a fairly straightforward process to be remove your name from their account and eliminate the link to clean up your own credit report.
Gotta think about it and decide whether it's worth the minimal risk for Delta Skymiles. |

Minimal Risk? A BK on your credit report for adding a deadbeat as an authorized user for 2500 miles? thats one of the most foolish responses Ive seen in this forum.
you are linking several people's credit together and have no way of ensuring the account is no longer on THEIR reports. And you dont have any control over the financial actions these people take in the future.
Say you add your mom, dad, 2 friends and girlfriend. You never give these people cards, or even TELL them you added them - but now this ONE account is reporting on ALL your reports. You then close all the AU cards after getting the miles - but the accounts are STILL reported on all the AU credit reports (whether they are being reported as "open or closed" you will NEVER know unless these people tell you.).
5 years from now, one of the long-departed friends files BK. This account still shows "open" on his report, so its listed in the BK papers and wiped out. AMEX then updates EVERYONE with a BK notation. Mom, Dad, you, the other friend, and the GF. It is NOT a simple matter to remove a BK from credit reports, and you will likely find out "by surprise" several years from now (probably when you were applying for an important loan). Not all these people are going to pull "privacyguard" everyday to check their credit, and all for 2500 Skymiles per person?
Ridiculous.

now i have 2nd thoughts... you think it would be a big problem to add 2 people whom you trust..and just remove them as users after the miles are credited? |

re-read what I wrote about the "removing users" strategy and why it wont help.
I can just picture the thread in the future when someone comes crying for help bc they did this to get 2500 miles. |

I applied via FatCash $15 link, got the standard 10K bonus miles. What's nice is you can indicate you already have another AMEX card and it will let you fill in fewer lines. Household income is a range, 10K up to 40K, 20K up to 100K, range is 100K after that. Got approved, so I decided to apply for a Principal Platinum VISA right after in a mini-app-o-rama....screen says they'll let me know in 3 days.
I would add my husband, our two kids, my dad (just people I can keep financial tabs on)....that's another 10K per card. Total will be 30K with the 10K game points....I'm only 5K away from a trip to US, maybe I should save an additional 20K instead for an international trip
First year fee is waived, will this card be worth keeping after the first year? Miles do not expire, but do you have to keep an open account in order to redeem?

you dont need to keep the credit card open once the miles are in your FF account. You can prevent miles in your FF account from expiring by adding or spending (ie taking flights, partner bonus offers, or spending points like miles for magazines). |

I thought I read that miles do not expire, just that I thought to redeem maybe they'd ask you for your Delta credit card.
This card seems to reward roughly about 2% on double point purchases and 1% on all else. There are better paying cards out there so I'm not sure if I want to keep this card at $85 annual fee. Besides it is another AMEX. The Delta Platinum at least gives you a companion ticket every year with the purchase of a Delta ticket. I called earlier and the CSR said no limit on the number of AMEX cards a person can have. What if we applied for the Platinum card and the Business card or several Delta cards? |
