Did you sign-up for free stock from Travelzoo.com six years ago? If so, did you register the stock again by 4/25/04?
The company's stock is currently trading - Day's Range: $89.00 - $94.47 after a 2 for 1 split. The original three free shares are now six. Any stock issued due to referrals has of course, also split.

The company offers travel and vacation packages at extraordinarily low prices and offers a free weekly email subscription. There may still be time to register and sell the free stock that was used as a gimmick to lure a dot-com era public. I just found out I have 8 shares, which is worth about $720 today!!!

...The year was 1998. At the time, Internet startups were in their heyday, burning through cash to emblazon their logos on television, billboards and the sides of buses. Bartel's Travelzoo, a discount travel site cobbled together without the aid of venture capital, didn't have the money for a flashy ad campaign. (read more about past giveaway)

To sell shares you must verify whether you have a shareholder account with Travelzoo, request physical ownership of the stock certificate, then transfer/deposit with a stock broker who will sell it for you.
It does not hurt to use the Travelzoo link titled "Click here if you don't remember your account number"...

You are one lucky bas***d. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border=0>

I think if you have your stock sell it off now and get ur $720, if everyone starts cashing their stocks, prices will fall soon.

This is NOT belonging to a HD...???

Yeah, put it in FF.

I did register, but I don't know how to claim the stock.

I got mine! The stock certifcates just came in the mail last week.

10 free shares for me <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border=0>

dayam! i don't remember which email address i signed up with or that i even reregistered this year. anyone tried contacting these people my mail yet?

Great. Link to get your account number.

I got this too and surprisingly I still had my email saved up. and the links still works! Sweet!

what is the difference between certificate shares and Book-Entry shares ???

interesting . . . .

Anyone know the date around which the free shares were offered?

I seem to have deleted my email about it. Gah!

-Zip.

I also can't figure out what my email address was in '98, although I know I signed up for it because I remember getting 3 shares. If anyone has any hints on how to contact Travelzoo to get this info, I'm all ears and deeply grateful.

Book-Entry shares just means that your shares are listed in their books.
There is no certificate for them yet, you have to request it.
You then get your certificate in the mail and give it to your stock broker to SELL for you.

For the nine months ended 9/30/04:

Revenues: $23.2 million
Net Income: $4.3 million
Market cap as of today: $1.48 billion

I this another internet bubble or what? Anyways, congratulations to those who have free shares!

Just go to your bank and ask for a medallion signature on the form.

I was asking the same freakin' thing about the MEDALLION signature.
Your bank or Credit Union can do it for you.
It can range from FREE to $15 for the service.

Well...looks like I never signed up of well.....funny thing is...I seem to recall some site years ago which did similar things......something to do with shopping and all that.....gave out free stock. Just can't remember who they were and all the details.....

Just go to your bank and ask for a medallion signature on the form.

Thanks - I will go and talk to my bank officials. Hopefully this will be straightforward.

I have a friend programmer on the inside... pm me 100 bucks and I will have him add your emails to their database.

only one offer per person please....

j/k...
I will offer this in the for sale/trade thread.

Excellent!! I also have 8 shares. Do you have more information on the "Medallion Signature Guaranteed Requirement"?

Thanks for your information geoffkin

This is great...too bad I didn't sign up

Just print out the form, go to your bank, go to the service desk and ask for the medallion guarantee. My bank didn't charge anything for it. It's just a blue (or maybe green) stamp that says medallion guarantee and has a place for the bank person to sign it.

Don't think there's anything that can be done about it. I tried, btw, by writing to them and explaining that I had forgotten the email used. They sent a couple of forms to sign on which it was reqd to provide either the email address used or the serial nos of the shares, none of which I had. So, basically it was fruitless.

Also, if you didn't register by the April 2004 date but you do remember your email address used, you can get a cash payout instead of the shares, based on average share price over the past 10 days or something like that.

Coolness! I remember signing up for this many years ago along with hundreds of other deals. Those were the good ol' days. Who would have thought this one would have been worth something. Now if ValueAmerica would get back to business and offer value dollars again...

nice! I totally did this in 1998. Just tried my mom's email - and hers worked, now just to remember what mine was.

Thanks OP!!!!

Anybody knows how to satisfy "Medallion Signature Guaranteed Requirement" if you are no longer in US. I have a friend who has 8 TZOO shares and is in India but looks like to be able to sell the stocks, he needs to transfer it to somebody who has a brokerage account in US.
Also, to transfer it, he needs this Medallion Signature in a US bank.
Anybody knows how all this can be done if the person who owns these shares is not in US.
I tell that friend that $800 is like a free US trip so might be worth a trip. But jokes apart, anybody knows how can he transfer the shares under his name to somebody in US while he is not in US.
TIA for any useful info.

I have 6 shares tucked away in my brokerage account.
Been a wild ride so far! Come on split baby!

After request for the stock certificate, any details in how to open a brokarage account to cash this stocks?

Thanks for your help

Ameritrade has the best brokerage account IMHO.

UH, signing up here will work...
Ameritrade

Of course, you have 1000's of other choices too...
