Does anyone know with the new energy star credit 30% will be nonrefundable or a refundable credit? I am asking because we ordered new Andersons for the house and we did our homework we ordered with sunsmart and they are 0.30 and qualify for the credits. We spent $4800.00 on them and that is I nice piece of change in credits. |

If I spend $1000, does $300 tax credit means we don't have to pay tax $300, which comes to $75 if I'm in a 25% bracket? Or $300 credited to your taxes? |

Tax credit should reduce your tax dollar for dollar, so it will be $300 reduction of your tax. |

Are there any ConEd customers here? I am looking for their free boiler offer for an oil to gas conversion that had been around in the past several years. I am finally fed up with oil. Also I remember experts stressing the importance of sizing the heating load. In my case since I am replacing an exisiting boiler which has been more or less doing an OK job, would that mean the new boiler should be rated more or less the same BTU/hr? TIA. |

The refundability doesn't affect me but according to the energy star site it is on IRS Tax Form 5695 (2009 version) — it will be available late 2009 or early 2010. I am assuming the credit is the same with AMT, though. |

I am taking it slow in the oil to gas conversion--it is almost summer time after all. But here are some questions and information sharing: 1. about the $1500 for high efficiency boiler credit, it apprears I am sol because no steam boilers are above AFUE 90% efficiency. 2. the first estimate I got the contractor sized the boiler based on my oil burner's rating of 1.5G/h. Should he be doing some more thourough calculation? 3. still no incentives offered by ConEd yet. |

^in the process of researching HVAC for a house I bought. Seems like the HVAC forum people recomend a good heat load caculation. not just ASSuming it was done right the first time. Even more so if you made other improvements to your house (new windows, more insulation, etc etc), that would help seal the house up. |

You are definitely right. For steam heating, I think the goal is to match the boiler's steam making capacity with the all the radiators' collective ability to condense steam to water. |
