Not sure if its a priority for OP, but perhaps those MM accounts that allow checkwriting (3 per month etc) could be notated as such ?
It can be tricky, since "MM" designation doesnt by default signify checkwriting privileges (e.g. UFBDirect.com) |

btrebor, Now you are violating rule #1! I don't see how this account follows #6. Please PM if you can prove this.
Alcibiades, This thread is about rates. If you want features, etc. PM with suggestions but the list is already complicated enough that we have people posting with not finding banks, CD rates, etc! I guess it is too long for people to read and understand as it is.
People, please follow: The only posts that should be in here are notices of changes in interest rates, new accounts and/or threads that should be included, and bumps to keep it current. I do answer PMs. The noise to signal has gotten quite high this week! |

I think a lot of old-timers here have this account. BofI is actually one of the grandaddy of FWF deals, here's a 4 year old thread. Seach on "bofi" to see lots more threads in archives. I hope you don't require more proof than that!
I know that this post is breaking your rules for posts but so is yours, and hopefully I am bringing an end to off-topic discussion here not extending it. BofI is a nice product on the rate alone & lots of people will find it even more interesting when looking beyond the rate. |

Updated: Giant Bank and Umbrella Bank go up
puddnhead, I disagree with your statement, "yes, it's open to the public." Over 50 does not qualify for what I think is a fair meaning of the word at m-w: 2 a : of, relating to, or affecting all the people or the whole area of a nation or state <public law>
If you want to continue this debate please PM me. |

Presidential has a new savings account called the Premier Savings Account that is paying 3.50% APY. Here's the web page with the details:
http://www.presidential.com/PremierSavings.htm
Minimum $5000 to open.
Like their fine checking account, this account also has a limited amount on which you can earn the higher rate. In this case, it's $35000. Amounts over this earn 2.25% APY.
No monthly fees if you maintain the minimum balance.
You can read the details on their web page.
Looks like this takes the top spot on the list for now.
Edit: The actual interest rates are 3.45% and 2.23%. |

This is a great rate but with "for a very limited time" I would call this a promo rate so I can't add it to the list but please start a new thread as this is a great rate!
Are the money market yields mentioned from other banks guaranteed for a longer time? I ask because the ones I usually see reserve the right to change rates at will. Accordingly, this yield looks great. |

This rate is good until the end of the year (fine) only if you get an account "for a very limited time" (June 30, which makes it a promo). |

This post on ibankdesign.com mentions the Meadows Credit Union's "Savvy Checking" paying 4.00% APY through the end of the year plus extras (free checks & ATM, etc.).
The ibankdesign post also mentions a $125 bonus that might still be available for opening a checking account there.
http://www.meadowscu.com/accounts/checking/promos/savvyRatePromo.jsp
You need to open your Savvy Checking account before June 30 to qualify for this special rate.
New members require $5000 or more to open with this rate.
Current Meadows members can open or convert to Savvy Checking and receive the 2.5% APY with money already at Meadows. To receive the 4.0% APY, current members need to have direct deposit coming to the account, and bring in $5000 in new money to the credit union, in addition to other funds they already have at Meadows.
No matter where you do your checking now, Savvy Checking is better than what you currently have: If You're a Current Meadows Checking Member:
* Savvy pays higher rates of interest * Savvy comes with free checks for life* * Savvy’s Fee Free Zone provides you the most free Meadows services* * Earn Visa Extras rewards points for using your debit card * Never pay for another ATM between our surcharge-free networks and up to $50 a month in surcharge rebates* * Product discounts - .25% off on Meadows auto or home equity loan, $250 off your mortgage closing costs * Special Savvy Certificates – always pay our highest Certificate rates * Free electronic banking services, bill payer, eAlerts, eStatements
If Your Checking Account Is At Another Local Bank:
Compare Savvy Checking at Meadows to:
* Harris Bank Platinum Plus® Checking * Bank One Premier One® Checking * LaSalle Select Services® Checking * National City Preferred Interest Checking
You will find the overall package offered by Savvy Checking beats any of them, and the opening balance to earn interest of just $5000 gets your money earning sooner. Contact a Financial Service Associate at 847-342-9300 ext. 2 or apply below – you must enter promotion code SAV05 to receive these special rates. *Promotional rate good until 12/31/2005 . After than time rates subject change without notice. Free checks for life are special Savvy design only, up to 500 checks per year. Fee Free Zone does not cover any transactional fees such as non-sufficient funds, overdraft, or Privilege Pay fees. For a complete list of fees covered, see your account Terms and Conditions. ATM surcharge rebates are based on balance tiers listed in account terms and conditions. |
