You might have to live outside of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont because of how the website behaves but I suspect that you can get this account. Please let us know!

You must also open a circle checking account with $50 and keep no money in it...

No fee if combined balances above $5,000

Tiers:
$0 - $9,999.99 1.00%
$10,000 - $24,999.99 2.20%
$25,000 - $49,999.99 2.50%
$50,000 + 3.30%

edit: Updated rates...

Came across this thread after I already added to the 'big' thread. If you have a 50K+ balance this is better than the ones that have tier limits for higher yields like VB and Presidential among others. Also, the Circle One checking is a decent deal since you get $25 bonus for 1 online bill pay which was credited to the account next day after you make the online payment. $75 bonus for DD - CharterOne classified VB ACH as Direct Deposit so if you have VB you can sweep the interest earned over 9,999 every month over to Charter One checking as a scheduled recurring transfer and see if that would get you the $75 bonus. $100 bonus for a no minimum balance account is not bad.

Also, the rate was 2.75% recently before upping to 3.00 so it seems to indicate that the bank plans to keep up w/ Fed and not a teaser rate.

tylr,

Can you verify that it is nationwide? I don't want to add it to the big thread yet because this link is past where you enter your area. If you enter a state that I have listed then you go to the Citizens Bank website which has inferior products and you don't have the option of even seeing this account. I don't know if this is a true limitation or if it is just marketing.

Can someone verify that a person from a listed state can open an account?

I'll contact CSR on Monday and post the resulted outcome.

Charter will not give me my bonus $25 for Paypoo transfer even though it shows up as a DD transaction.
I'm not pleased with them and will be filling complaints

I think that the $25 bonus is for one online bill payment. I got mine the next day. If I remember correctly, the CSR told me that the $75 direct deposit bonus will be paid after 6 scheduled direct deposits.

You're right, I got my $25 for online bill payment. The other $25 bonus is for DD since I opened the Green Checking. This account is only for Paypoo, mainly for security.

From Massachusetts, I opened a Charter One account last fall via internet and phone using their Cleveland branch/HQ. Within a month or two, I was informed that Charter One was being bought by Citizens. All my statements (unfortunately, Citizens does not offer electronic-only statements) and online activity go through citizensbankonline.com now.

Are there folks from non-listed states who still work directly with Charter One offices?
