I was unable to convert Student Visa credit card (formerly from Associate National Bank) to any Citibank credit card such as the Dividend Platinum Select.

Citibank conversion are painless:
- Converted drivers edge to dividends.
- Converted student Universal Card to Platinum and then to Rewards

CC# remains the same. They insist on sending a new plastic card though.

Discover let me convert from Platinum card to the 5% Restaurant card.

Kind of strange, really. I applied for the Restaurant card, but was turned down. Kind of hard to believe given my income and spotless credit. Even stranger since after that I was approved by both Citibank and Chase for their 5% grocery/drugs/gas cards and also for a Citi Professional Card.

But conversion worked fine. I never used the Platinum card anyway, so this let me keep a card I already had (they're not replacing it).

Still thought the credit decline strange though . . .

What about US Bank?

Also, anyone ever had success converting an AMEX partner card to and an AMEX regular credit (not charge) card?

Called Chase yesterday, tried to convert my Chase Perfect Card and Freedom Card to the new Chase Cash Plus. No dice... CSR said those two cards I have are "rebate cards", and the Chase Cash Plus is "Cash reward cards", they fall in two different categories... So I guess, what kind of chase card you can convert to really depends on the kind of card you already have.

Discover Miles into Discover Gas or any other non-miles variety, anyone?

Citi AAdvantage into anything else, anyone?

Same here.

Acording to FWgunn
in otherwise crappy mbna thread

even MBNA branded cards can be converted:

Actually, I've been successful. I have my new card in hand so I know MBNA will allow this change.

I was able to convert my MBNA Schwab-branded Preferred Platinum Visa into an MBNA Stockback-branded Preferred Platinum Visa.
The CSR originally gave me some BS about not being able to convert the Schwab card but after pointing out that both Citibank and AMEX allow for a conversion, she finally relented and gave me the following phone number to call.

Once I got the phone number to call, the conversion was quick and painless. All the CSR needed was a) the affiliate PRIORITY CODE (HV67 for Stockback) which he found himself by going to the brand-affiliate's application page on the internet and b) (in the case of Stockback) my Stockback MemberID number. The CSR was able to pull off everything else he needed from my existing account.

The MBNA Product Change Unit may be reached @ 866-865-7841 from 8-5PM EST.

A long while back I had a Citi Visa(dont know if it was a standard or PLatinum) and they forcibly converted it to a Platinum Select Mastercard. I called and told them I wanted a Visa and they obliged. A few months later they replaced it with a Mastercard again. Anyone else have this experience?

Why couldn't they give me a platinum select visa? Strange.

Over the last few years Citibank has been issuing mastercard - they are having a ongoing tiff with visa.

I'd guess you're caught up in citi's mastercard push. Why does it matter to you?

--
Another move that continues to reap rewards for MasterCard was its conversion of Citigroup, the world's largest card issuer, from Visa, following a spat between the two about five years ago, Gould said. That has meant an upsurge in transactions the new IT system needs to handle.

That makes sense. At that time I had no clue about finance etc. and thought that Visa had wider acceptance.

Visa has a lot more cards out there, but I think the acceptance is virtually identical.

Citigroup's trying to drive a hard bargain.

Using the product change unit DOES NOT result in the new account having the opening date that the old card had. The new card will be reported as opened on the date you converted.

Has anybody been able to successfully convert from a Chase/Bankone Amazon.com Visa to the Chase Cash Plus Rewards? If so, would I just call Amazon? Or is there another number?

alert mods

I did it this month. from Amazon.com Visa to Chase Cash Plus Rewards. Any good of the Chase Cash Plus Rewards program?

I was thinking to cancel my Amazon.com Visa and called Amazon.com Visa. The CSR tried what he could to persuade me to keep the card. Eventually he suggested the new offer.
The new card reached me. "since" the date I got my Amazon.com Visa (year 2003). also, it keeps the same CL of Amazon.com Visa. APR is 0.9%. I am not going to use its BT unless the APR is zero.

I converted a Vermont Teddy Bear Card (originally Bankone) to a Chase Rewards Visa and the Account Number stayed the same. The OP may need changed.

I got a letter in the mail from Citi that offered to convert one of my current cards to the Citi PremierPass card and also give me 15,000 bonus points after first purchase. Too bad i'd rather get GC and stuff than a plane ticket cause I don't fly that much so I prob won't do it.

Anyone else receive this??

15000 points, you can get $150 GC from it...

Does converting types mean a hard inquiry will be pulled?
