Are you sure about the bonus? I can't find such info on their website.

No nothing yet, instead of applying from that link apply by going directly to the HSBC website and click on apply for online savings account, the promo box will be filled in for you. |

Yes, you can. Make sure though not to go over 6 transactions per month. Check with them what kind of transactions count. I remember that four years ago HSBC was stricter than federal guidelines required. I think they counted ACH IN, not just ACH OUT as most other banks, and possibly online transfers between linked accounts, but I can't remember for sure now.
You can also open free checking with HSBC (1c min) to avoid these limits. Note that they may (will?) close it for you automatically if your balance is 0. |

Try it, see if it goes through, they also offer a completely free checking account, you can move money instantly from savings to checking, they don't charge any fees at all, I have let the balance go to 0, and when I need to pay a bill I just transfer the money to checking. |

I read through the account terms really fast, I didn't see that mentioned, like I posted before I have let it go to 0 and nothing came of it, maybe if you have it at 0 for a full statement cycle, then they close it, but everybody pays bills so this is not very likely. There was one thing in the terms about a fee, if you have no activity for 3 consecutive months then you get charged, I believe it was $8, but again this is also very unlikely. |

So there's a $3 to transfer money from HSBC, if you do it from their web site. It is free if the withdrawal is initiated by another bank... |

The $3 fee doesn't apply to the Online Savings, so sending and receiving money is free. |

I have an ING acct linked to my Netank acct.
hsbc is 3.25%, and comes with an ATM card.
and i think you can link that acct to their free checking acct w/free billpay. (where as ING is just a savings acct that you cant do anything else with.)
i'm planning on doing this and closing both Netbank and ING. Anyone see any drawbacks?
edit: Also, can hsbc link to other banks? or must you goto the other bank to originate the link? |

No, no draw backs, I have an HSBC online savings account and free checking, it's great with the instant transfers and the ATM access, I still have some money in ING, I'm waiting on interest to be posted on the HSBC savings, I want to make sure they give 3.25%, before I transfer everything over from ING, I'll leave a few cents in ING just in case their rates go up, has anybody had interest posted to their HSBC savings account, do they do it monthly or quarterly? |

You can link to other banks, but they charge A $3.00 transaction fee for each outbound transfer from your HSBC accounts to your non-HSBC accounts. No transaction fees if you transfer money into your HSBC accounts from your non-HSBC accounts.

I'm also opening an account at HSBC. I woul recommend not close your account at ING, I did that and it's really annoying to open it again: you can only do it by mail. |
