Maybe its account number is too long? Within Capital One's High Yield Savings account, I tried to make an external link of this Premier Savings account but seems didn't go through. Anyone else tried too? what is your results? |

That's really impressive. I have been with them for 2.5 years. So you started with them before they have their online service? "Presidential Online Bank was established on October 6, 1995, to become the vehicle of Presidential's future growth though Internet banking." So you are in Maryland. How's their rate back 10 years ago? |

I see their online Bill Pay is free if you have an "Internet Checking PLUS" account. Anyone know what that is, & its terms? I couldn't find any information about it.
Edit: Also, can someone post the phone number for their customer service? Thanks! I figure I could keep maybe $1000 of my savings at ING Direct and the rest at Presidential; that way if I needed to make more than six withdrawals per month, I'd have some leeway (up to 12, between the two accounts). |

Basically you'll need a real dd for it to work. |

Thanks for the phone number. I talked to the CSR:
To open an Internet Checking PLUS account you must deposit a minimum of $1,500.00. Benefits:
---3.25% interest (NOT BAD for a checking account!) ---instant online transfers to & from your Premier Savings (within the 6-per-month limit, of course); ---free Online Bill Pay ---first 25 checks free; ATM access too.
You do need to set up Direct Deposit. And you must maintain a minimum balance of $1,000.00 or they'll charge you $5 per month.
So indeed, there should be no problem getting your money out of this bank. The Direct Deposit seems a small price to pay! Mine is tied up elsewhere for awhile yet, but this may become its permanent resting place! |

could I open one of these and have no fees under these conditions?
My work does NOT have direct deposit yet (I just checked again at the HR department)
What if I cash my checks into my local First national bank and trust company checking account and then have the money taken from my presidential account the same way Emigrant Direct or ING take the money out after I deposit my check? Does this count as direct deposit or would I get charged because my employer doesn't do direct deposit? |

Without direct deposit from your employer, your account will be downgraded to Internet Checking. There are other threads for the Presidential checking account. |

I told the CSR I won't be opening my "Internet Checking PLUS" account yet because my Direct Deposit is tied up elsewhere. I asked how I would be able to get money out in the meantime.
She said just write them a letter and they'll put a cashier's check in the next day's mail.
I asked "Can I fax the request?" and she said I'd first have to request an authorization form, sign & return it, and then I'd be able to fax the request for withdrawal of funds.
So the money's not inaccessible, but I'm going to leave $1,000 in ING Direct for easier access -- i.e., not relying on the post office, which once took two weeks to deliver my utility payment across town! |

I applied for the Premier Savings (thanks, OP) & sent in my opening deposit, mentioning in my letter that I will eventually be opening an Internet Checking PLUS account as well, though my Direct Deposit is tied up right now.
So what do they do, they write and tell me my application for an Internet Checking Plus account has been approved. Wish people would actually READ what's written instead of just noticing a word or two and making assumptions. Have to call them in the morning and see about straightening this out. Need to be sure I don't get charged a fee for "closing" the checking account within 180 days, or for "opening" it without Direct Deposit.
If they're at all decent to deal with, that shouldn't be a problem... and I guess if they're not, it's better to find out now than later. |

Why???
So I can transfer money in & out of Presidential using my ING Direct account. As far as I know, ING Direct will only link to checking accounts. Once I get the money into Presidential, it can easily be transferred between checking & savings. Besides, 3.25% is hardly a shabby interest rate for a checking account.
Or did I miss something? Do you know of any reason not to do this? |

Internet Checking Plus is my primary checking account, and I definitely recommend it along with Premier Savings. My question was why did you write a letter to tell them that you will eventually open that checking account? Nothing positive could have come out of it, and as it turned out, they thought you wanted to open that account as well. |

I figured it wouldn't hurt to let them know I intended to expand the relationship.
But as it turned out, when I called about the mix-up, the CSR said I actually was given a Premier Savings account like I wanted -- but when they sent the form letter, they didn't tweak it to say so.
Seems strange that they wouldn't have a separate letter set up for each sort of account, but I'm just happy to have my Premier Savings account. |

Am I right in understanding that a Premier Savings account would allow me to interact with the bank both online and in-person, whichever is most convinient? The Premier Savings account appears to be listed in both their "Internet Accounts" and "Branch Accounts" sections. Anyone try to make deposits/withdrawals from this account in a Presidential branch? |

wouldn't think the .25% difference would be worth it |

You automatically get the .25% increase. They increased the rate for the account.
