I think bedrocked is talking about the 0.25% difference between checking and savings. Since checking has a limit of $25K, having savings allows me to keep more money at the same bank for easy transfers.

right, forgot about the checking limits.

this hard credit check.... How serious is it? how much does your credit score drop by?

Time to update the subject line -- rate is now 3.75% !!! 3.5% on checking!

Can do move your money between those two accounts easily online?

thanks.
It is very easy, just fill in the amount and two pull-downs for acct number on summary page. It is instantaneous (no hold on funds at all)

bedrocked said:wouldn't think the .25% difference would be worth itIt's not just the .25% diference, it's also the ability to get a high rate on $25k + $35k=$60k of balances, not just $25k for checking alone. Some people have opened multiple checking accounts, but a savings plus checking combination not only gives higher balance potential but also MUCH easier funds transfers.

+.50 is significant.
I think its time to move $$ from Emigrant.

Can I ACH link from ING/Emigrant<-->Presidential?

I am worried about a hard pull tho ...hmmm...

I have looked over the thread a few times and still do not see a clear answer to how easy it is to get money into and out of this account? I currently have an ED account and I can simply transfer to and from the initial linked checking account at my other bank. Can I do the same with a Presidential? Thanks.

Best way is through ACH push/pull. When you first open the account you can do an echeck to fund the account but from that point on, the only access is through checks, wire, and ACH. As far as I have seen there is no way on the Presidential site to link Presidential accounts to an external checking account. Maybe you can link to the Presidential account from another site.

Hey guys,

if my experian credit score is like 775, how much will a hard inquiry affect it?

All this interest-rate-chasing is a hassle, but I have to do it to balance the interest on my student loans.

why do people worry about credit hits due to hard inquiries? that's part of the game, you either play or don't.

<---Impatiently waiting for them to bump to 3.25% or better. The .75 gap is too much to pass up, but I'll give it till the end of July. After that, I guess I'll stomach the hard inquiry and move on over.

BTW, for those who were asking...inquiries will typically cost you somewhere between 3-7 points. It all depends on your file and which way the wind is blowing.

and their regular savings rates are like 1.5% in case your balance ever falls below the minimum.

the website looks like a 3rd grader made it with Crayola MyFirstWebpageMaker - not good for someone I'd like to try out and I'm not near a regular branch. I'd hate to find out how hacker-proof their internet accounts are, the wrong way.

Why wouldn't it be worth it? First of all it prevents someone from somehow clearing out your checking account (say they write a bogus check or something). Sure, it's not likely, but why keep more money in checking than you absolutely have to? Secondly, you can transfer the money easily online, so why not just do it? Keep however much you spend in a month in the checking and put the surplus in the savings. Unless you are living paycheck to paycheck the difference in yield is definitely worth the nonexistant hassle involved.

i can sacrifice that much.

If needed, I'll just up the credit card spending limit, which should bring my credit up another few points. it went up 8 points last time

How long does it usually take for them to open an account? I mailed the signature card in about a week ago, still haven't heard anything.

alert mods

It is $5000 minimum to open the account, and to maintain, but how long before you can cancel the account without penalty?

alert mods

i dont think there is a premature closing penalty. Yes there is a $5k minimum...

alert mods

I just opened my Premier Savings account at one of the Presidential branches in my area and didn't encounter any problems. The Branch Manager said that they don't do a hard credit pull when an individual signs up in person for the savings account. Also you can close out your account at any time without a penalty. However, there is no guarantee as to how long the 3.75 apy rate will be offered.

I received my account number & materials 9 days after mailing in my application & opening deposit.
